“Flying daggers don't kill people, Chloe thought, leaping sidewise at the last minute to avoid one, grabbing the pedestrian rail. People kill people.”

This was a super fast reading, I was really amazed that I finished the book in about 6 hours. I was really skeptical about it since it seems that the book series hasn't got that many fans. I have a feeling I'm going to annoy someone out there. Sorry in advance!!! I found this book to be captivating enough to have to read it in one sitting and far far far better than the super sweet sugary ABC series. But then I'm from the U.K. and find these USA t.v. series made from young adult fiction to concentrate far too much on how people look (Paul in the t.v. Series is a token ethnic minority soooooo contrived), they are completely shallow it's as if some t.v. Exec has taken all the gritty More...

Chloe is a typical girl... a bit boy crazy and acts like a teenager by fighting with her mom and cuts class once in a while. Around her 16th birthday she started noticing strange changes -- a bit cat-like really, including the claws. She feels alone with these changes and doesn't understand where they came from or if there is anyone else like her. She stops worrying so much about that once she finds out that someone is out to kill her because of what she is -- whatever that may be.

Like many before me, I picked up The Nine Lives of Chloe King after watching the television adaptation. Usually, I prefer original material over dramatizations, but that does not seem to be the case in regards to this series. I admit Thomson's version had potential. The premise is unique in respect to drawing on Egyptian mythology to create a heroine developing supernatural powers. Yet what could have been an homage to Buffy the Vampire Slayer is in reality a whole bunch of melodramatic nonsense More...

I deliberately waited on starting this series because there was so much hype focused around not only this book, but this show on TV as well. It seemed like everyone was talking about both the book and the TV series, but as always I was late to the party.
When I first started reading this, I kept trying to imagine it in my head since I haven't watched a single episode. So I started out slow with just the first book in the series instead of devouring it all at once. I loved the story structure and More...

When the Nine Lives of Chloe King started up on ABC Family this summer I fell in love with yet another series. The show was captivating. Shortly after I heard that it was a book and had to read it. Needless to say I was quite disappointed, which is unusual because I normally love the books of TV shows or movies that I watch. I found the Chloe in the book annoying and the relationship between her and her mother strained in comparison to the fine balance of single mom parent and friend routine tha More...

When a reporter on GMA said that the new tv series based on the book would be "like a combination between Buffy and Twilight" I was intrigued. So, I got a sample on my kindle, breezed through it and found myself strangely wanting more. I bought it and read it in one sitting.
It has that effect that The Sims has on you. You know it's sorta brainless, it's an easy read, you spend time trying to get to one level just to realize you could reach another in 10 minutes, but once you actually walk away More...

I recently discovered that ABC Family is going to be doing a new show based on the book series, The Nine Lives of Chloe King. The previews caught me by surprised and looked so interesting that I had to, of course, immediately go out and find the first book in the series. I'm one of those people who, if I can, enjoy reading the book before watching the movie or show and since I knew I'd be watching the show, I just had to read the book.
Ooooo - it's a good book!

In the beginning, everything seems okay (or close to perfect) for Chloe King. She has two best friends, Amy and Paul. But everything changes on her sixteenth birthday when she and her two friends are on top of Coit Tower. She falls and it seems that she is dead, but somehow she wakes up.
After the "death" fall from the tower, everything changes for Chloe. Suddenly, her two best friends are dating each other, and Chloe is growing claws and able to leap tall buildings. But that's not all. People f More...

I picked up The Nine Lives of Chloe King series at my library because of the upcoming show on ABC family. I saw a promo for the show and thought it looked good so I figured I’d give the first book a try. I still plan on catching the premiere on a re-run and trying the show, but I don’t plan on continuing the book series. It didn’t really work for me, but I’ll say why because what didn’t work for me might not bother you. I also realize that if I pus More...

Surprisingly, even though I was a huge fan of the TV show I did not enjoy this book. I thought the writing was amateurish. The over use of italics really bothered me for some reason. No joke - there were a few on every page! Sometimes 2 -3 in one sentence and it just didn't make sense to me why they were there.
The character development was good, I just didn't like the characters. They were rude, obnoxious, they drank, swore, and all they talked about was sex (ok maybe pretty typical for some te More...

What did I think? Hmm. Well, I was kinda disappointed because it was nothing like the show, which I did really like. In the book, Chloe is annoying and bitchy, and not very smart. She says some dumb things sometimes, and others really mean. Lots of little things happen to her but they don't amount to something really big in the end. There should be more character development, like LOTS of it. The boys weren't that nice to read about; I never liked Brian that much, even in the show, but his chara More...

I have to admit before anything that this review is more than a little biased. The fact that I watched ABC Family's show based off of this book before I read the book obviously leads to a bias, but I believe that even if I had not seen the show first, I still would have given this novel the same rating that I have. Maybe one star more, but nothing less.

Chloe King is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She may have had extraordinary beginnings – as a Soviet baby adopted by her parents to come and live in San Francisco . . . but since that extraordinary start, Chloe has been thoroughly normal. She has her two best friends – Amy and Paul. She fights with her mum all the time. And she resents her father for walking out twelve years ago . . . she doesn’t understand trig and she’s desperate to work the cash register at the clothing store where she works More...

Chloe King is turning 16 and wants to spend the day with her two best friends at the tallest building in San Francisco, rather than in school. But when Chloe falls from the building and lives to tell about it, well, things get really strange. Suddenly Chloe can run faster, senses are heightened, and inhibitions are let down, and strangers are trying to kill her.

3.5 stars for book #1. I actually really liked it, and would've given it 4 stars except the TV show is SO much better. And I canNOT believe (view spoiler). And I thought the writing was good, but, especially at the beginning, Brian and Alec (It's weird how they spell his name in the book like Aylec) seemed kind of childish. And it was WAY too easy for Chloe to get Alec's attention.

The other day, one of my best friends introduced me to the hit tv series: The Nine Lives of Chloe King. When I first started watching it, I thought it would be ridiculous and phony. After staying up until five in the morning watching said program, I changed my view of the show. I saw it as adventurous, twisted, horrific, and terrifyingly good. I promptly begged The Introducer of The Show to let me borrow the full trilogy of books! On Thursday I began reading The Fallen and finished it the next d More...

After finishing the ten episodes ABC Family has of this series Nine Lives of Chloe King, I decided that I would try out the books. I enjoyed the books, but for the first time I am pretty sure ever, I thought "wow, this isn't as good as the show". I don't know why but I enjoy the show more, but I enjoyed the book enough to finish it, rate it 4/5 stars, and buy the second copy.
I like the show more because the main female character, Chloe, she is more naive and innocent having her first kiss with X More...

I'm sorry, but this series is legitimately stupid. I own all three in the one big book, and I couldn't even get to finish the second one, so I just thought I would add this one as Read. I LOVED the TV series, but for some reason, these books were just horrible. I'm writing this book about 3 months after reading it, so I don't really remember much. Especially because nothing about the book is memorable. >.< But one thing I do remember was how much Chloe cussed. I'm not gonna lie, I cuss lik More...

I'm so sorry. I was expecting something amazing and great but it was crappy. I was dying to read it, thinking it's going to be such an awesome story but it dissapointed me. Chloe King jumped on every guy that she saw and she was from my oppinion a sl*t. Excuse me. I liked Chloe's friends, Amy and Paul, I hated that guy, something with B, I guess. See? I can't even remember the characters' names. Anyway, he was an idiot. I really liked, on the other hand, Alek. He was a Russian and a total hottie More...

Reading this book was like watching an episode of Lost. There was the impression that alot was occurring and things were moving forward, until the very end when you suddenly realized you were no more enlightened as to what was happening than before you started reading the book (or watching the episode). In fact, I finished this book with more questions than answers, much like I finished the first season of Lost. And so, I deign to continue reading this series (as I deigned to continue watching L More...

This was a very quick read. It has a cool premise: A 16 year old girl falls off a building and doesn't die. She soon starts to discover other changes too, and wonders who and what she is. There is also an edge to the book--sex and death aren't glossed over. So, it was fun and I enjoyed it, but it was also a bit ... weird. The character development is pretty shallow, and the interactions between the teens veer towards the cheesy. There's no real payoff at the end, as it leaves you with a cliffhan More...

First of all let me state -- I am BIAST for this book. I was DESTINED for it. First, my name is Chloe, and second, I am OBSESSED with cats like you have no idea.
A new plot that I havent seen before, and that kepte reading untill the end. I'm confused as to who the author is though -- Celia Thomson or Liz braswell?
Anyway, Chloe was just your ordinary girl. With a best friend or two, a crush or two and more. But what happens when se starts to change and she looses her best friend?? What about her More...

This book was really good. It has lots of adventure and a little romance. If there was one thing I would change about this book it would be getting rid of the character Brain because I thought he was really not needed. One thing I really did like about this book was that it was a lot of adventure and how they made Chloe seem more like a teenager. One connection I have with this book is I feel like me and Chloe are a lot alike because we both have two very close friends. I feel we also have the s More...

In comparison between the book and show, I believe the show's version of the characters are more down to earth and likeable. The book's version of Chloe, in particular, is more snobby and self-centered.
I did like The Fallen , but I wish it didn't take till the end of the book for Chloe to realize some of the secrets that have been present since the beginning and middle of the book.It ends with Chloe's two love interests being shown on the good and bad sides of the battle.
What battle, you ask? I More...

I heard a lot about TNLoCK, because of the TV show, but I hadn't watched it yet. I thought I'll read the books first, and God, I did the right thing. At first I thought this would be another The Awakening or it would be barely readable. But oh, no! The Nine Lives of Chloe King has everything what is right with the YA fantasy today:
* Easily likeable characters
* Smart main character
* Funny, sarcastic lines
