In my opinion, an excellent time travel book that didn't have me confused with the "when" in the story. There wasn't a time stamp before each chapter started, there weren't 473957292 versions of the main characters floating around.

There was an amazingly swoony boy and the girl he absolutely adores. And it was phenomenal.

Also? Dibs on Bennett. :D

This book received SO many raving reviews, and I feel like I'm the odd one out. But to sum it all up, I just didn't get it. I think this book had a lot of potential, but there were just too many holes and inconsistencies.

Out of all the young adult time travel books I have read, I think this book impressed me the least. And you know that a book is unmemorable when you sit down to write a review a few days later, and you have already forgotten a lot of what you have read.

Out of all the young adult time travel books I have read, I think this book impressed me the least. And you know that a book is unmemorable when you sit down to write a review a few days later, and you have already forgotten a lot of what you have read.

Since I'm not sure how much I can explain without making the whole review spoiler-free, I'm just going to hide the rest of it.

(view spoiler)[I'm not sure how I feel about Stone's concept of writing the time travel range to be within Bennett's life span. On one hand, it’s more realistic, well, as real as time travel can be. But on the other hand, it kind of defeats the whole wonder of the concept because history can be so interesting. So since we can’t live in history, we have to rely on the story that is taking place.

To me, the storyline was just meh. Neither Anna nor Bennett were really exceptional. They were kind of bland, and the romance wasn’t one of those that just totally sucked me in. On a side note, neither one had great relationships with family or best friends that made the side stories interesting. I can see how Stone attempted to show us the consequences of changes, but those side stories just made me dislike Anna for how selfish and bratty she can be.

So going back to the story, there were so many holes in book that I just don’t see how everything added up. What’s so special about Bennett, and why does he time travel (obviously NOT hereditary)? I don’t understand what happened to his sister. How did he “lose” her and how is he supposed to “wait” for her? Also, what were the consequences of Bennett helping his father?

And the biggest question of all… Okay, so Bennett is actually 17 in 2012, and he is a baby in Anna’s time period. So I’m guessing he disappears from 2012 when he time travels? Okay, so there are two parallels? So the big question is, at one point, there is ANOTHER Bennett that shows up. So I’m guessing there is Baby Bennett, the Bennett Anna is in love with and the future Bennett all in one time period? So does that mean there is yet ANOTHER parallel universe? How many are there?

And I see NO way that Anna and Bennett can live happily ever after. Like I said, I’m still not sure if Bennett disappears from his time period or not. So he comes back. Yes, they solve the whole Anna taking her trip situation. But what about future events? There are no consequences from this time? How in the world is he supposed to stay with her? (hide spoiler)]

Books like “The Mediator” by Jenny Carroll/Meg Cabot (yes, it was cliché, but it was cute) and “The Clearing” by Heather Davis (I was actually moved by this one) made an impression on me. And I’ve never read “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” but I’ve watched the movie.

With this book, the basic story was too bland, and the overall concept made no sense for me to enjoy it.(less)

Okay here is my dilemma. I wanted to LOVE this book, I love the idea of time traveling and falling in love with someone from the future (or the past for Bennett’s case), and being with someone who you weren’t suppose to even know let alone fall in love with. My problem is I only liked it… that shouldn’t be a problem to like a book, right? But it is…

I couldn’t put this book down; I read it in two days and even stayed up till 3 am to finish reading the book. I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next and I really couldn’t wait to find out how it ends. I loved the characters, loved Anna’s best friend Emma and the entire storyline. I knew they would end up together (as all YA books end) but was dying to know how it would work out since Anna lives in 1995 and Bennett lives in 2012. But that is where the problem lies, it just ended and they lived happily ever after not explaining at all how. How did he make it back? How will he be able to stay? What about the real him in 2012? How did the 30 year-old Anna find the 17 year-old in San Francisco in 2012 in the beginning of the book? No answers were given. Maybe I was expecting too much from a YA novel but I just think there are too many questions left without answers. There is so much more of a story to tell and I think that Tamara Ireland Stone has way more writing material to give to us then let this story and the characters go. Because I loved the characters, I loved the story, I love the idea but I just didn’t like how it ended leaving so much opened. I felt like a relationship ended and I didn’t get the closure I needed. Does that make sense?

Like I said, there is so much more on this story I am dying to find out, like what about Anna’s best friends Emma & Justin? What about Bennett’s family and the real Anna in 2012, who is now in her early 30’s while Bennett is 17… I am dying to know more about Bennett’s sister Brooke (which is why he went back to 1995 after all) and his family… they were mentioned but that is it. And of course his Grandma... I want to know more about her too.

Like I have said, I liked the book A LOT… 90% of the book was amazing but the ending felt like a bad breakup with no answers to why I was getting dumped when I thought we had the perfect relationship. I think I would give this review a higher rating if I knew there was a book two with this storyline and characters, as of now there is not so I will stay broken hearted with all my unknowns.

I give Time Between Us 3 Stars. I just need MORE and I am left with to many questions without answers to give it more of a higher rating even though I want it to be a 5 star book.

So here I beg Ms. Ireland-Stone PLEASE give me more! PLEASE bring back Bennett and Anna, PLEASE writing a book two and let me have my happy ending, PLEASE fix my broken heart! (less)

So, I'm definitely onboard for the sequel, because there's something that sucks you in with this story. It's engaging and definitely entertaining and twisty regarding the plot.

HOWEVER...

HOWEVER...

The is much in this story that's problematic:

1) The time-travel aspect is weaksauce. There are few "rules" to the time travel beyond that it's a bad idea to alter the past and that you can only travel within your own lifetime. Frankly, the time-travel stuff is more like random paranormalcy than time-travel. At one point Bennett does math to figure out how to alter a timeline without causing a ripple effect and I was just, "Guys, you need more than a little algebra to pull that off. You'll better call Peter and Walter Bishop to make this happen."

2) The set-up of Anna's school/home life is nonsensical. Her parents scrimp so she can attend a fancy private school in Evanston, where they live. This means that she has to get a running scholarship to afford college and won't ever be able to travel, which has been her dream since childhood. It's not as if Evanston, Ill has the world's worst public schools and her education would suffer by attending a public school and therefore enabling her parents to save for college and possibly a study abroad or exchange program. Torpedoing their child's college and life dreams in order to pay for a private high school doesn't make a lot of sense and besides this perplexing problem, makes no sense, as Anna's parents are generally great people who love their daughter and have a good relationship with her. Plus, there were no plot circumstances that required she need to attend that school.

3) Anna is pretty passive about her own life's course. And while I get that she's a teen, and that's one of the things that kind of happens to teens, the fact that she's so passionate about running and travel, her passivity felt incongruous.

4) I wanted to know more about Bennett and his backstory. I understand the sequel will be told from his POV, and I think that's a good thing. He also makes some decisions which I felt were not his to make, and I didn't know enough about him to understand if those decisions were justifiable or not.

5) Anna's kind of a crappy friend and it really doesn't make a lot of sense, because she has two wonderful friends in Emma and Justin.

6) I never bought that the thing Anna and Bennett changed in their timeline could have been down without changing more than the one--ultimately not that significant--thing that they changed. I've watched enough Fringe to understand the damn Butterfly Effect, y'all.

7) I started counting the number of times Anna thought something along the lines of, "I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding." Girl, just breath, all right?

Anyway, I know it sounds like I hated this book, and I actually really enjoyed it, despite the problems with the plot holes and character motivation. While the beginning/setup drags a bit, it's generally well-paced and has a nice balance of action and romance-y stuff. This was definitely aided by the fact that I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did an excellent job not only with differentiating the voices, but building tension that I suspect would've been somewhat less had I read it as opposed to listening. Have you ever missed the characters you were reading about, because they meant so much to you? If so, then you know what my experience reading Time Between Us was like.

I knew I had to read this one from the first synopsis on Goodreads: "about a girl who meets a boy who can hold her hands and take her anywhere." Then came the gorgeous cover, which I was in love with...and THEN, finally, the moment when I started Tamara Ireland Stone's novel, and was at once completely and totally invested in Anna and Bennett's story. Although the story is only told from Anna's point of view, both she and Bennett are such amazingly beautiful characters - each flawed in their own ways, yet also incredible identifiable and relatable. There was never a moment when I didn't feel like I KNEW Bennett and Anna. While I was reading their story, they were as real to me as people I pass on the street. Watching them interact, every minute between them pulsed with a heartbeat, with meaning, with love and longing and loss, and it was just fantastic.

I've read several time travel novels (and I'm definitely the biggest Doctor Who fan - I - know) so it's safe to say that I adore all things time travel. But Stone puts a new spin on what we think we know, and I really enjoyed Bennett's explanations of what he can - andn can't - do, as well as watching Anna try to piece it all together. I felt like I was in Anna's head, figuring it out along with her. The pacing of Time Between Us was so balanced, between revelations and slower moments with Anna and her family or friends, or Bennett. Stone gave those various relationships time to develop sweetly, and it led to fuller characters, and a sense of belonging on my part, as a reader. I felt like I was being given a glimpse into Anna's world, and I cherished that.

I read Time Between Us in a matter of hours, at once wanting - needing - to know what happened next, yet also wanting to savor each word. The characters were all real, as mentioned, and I loved watching Anna interact with those around her. I can't even really put into words my love for Anna and Bennett. From their auspicious beginning, which is beautifully explained later, to Stone laying the foundations for their friendship, and ultimately the deep sense of caring between them, I was falling for their relationship just as much as they were for one another. Anna and Bennett are an extremely poignant example of a first, sweet love where two people are good for one another, though not without their failings. My heart broke for each of them, separate and together, more than once, especially at the threat of time keeping them apart.

What I liked best about Tamara Ireland Stone's magnificent debut novel was the character growth. I'm a HUGE fan of characters who grow and change over the course of a novel, and both Bennett and Anna certainly did that. I cried more than once for and with Anna as she struggled to see what was right in front of her, and to learn to be truly brave, and my heart went out to Bennett, too. In the end, they both became incredibly strong people, and as I closed the last page of Time Between Us, I had tears drying on my cheeks, cherishing their love and their decisions and their courage.

I won't soon forget Time Between Us, or the lasting impression Anna and Bennett's story made on me. It's been about two weeks (at the time I'm writing this review in August) since I finished it, and I'm still wondering what Bennett and Anna will be up to next. Stone's debut novel is a truly beautiful one, filled with heart-wrenching moments, and yet also, there is hope scrawled indelibly across the pages, too. (less)

I can admit it... I haven't really read a lot of time travel books, so I was a bit leery going into this. I don't know what I was thinking. I absolutely loved it.

Anna knows she saw him and swears he recognizes her name but keeps pushing her away. Bennett runs hot and cold but Anna feels very drawn to him.

In Chicago 1995 where they are currently living he has only just been born. Weird! Anna could go visit baby Bennett! As soon as he finds his sister, who he accidentally lost in time, he will have to return. Anna wants all the time with him she can get even if it only is a few weeks.

Time travel in this book allows Bennett to choose where he goes, anywhere in the world, anytime during his lifetime. He takes his clothes with him lol and also he can take anyone he wants with him. Anna who has always wanted to travel loves this and I would too! They have romantic dates on beaches on tiny little islands. They spend the night in Italy and then Bennett brings them back to right when they left. The possibilities are endless! Bennett Except that Bennett has been kicked back to his time period when he stays in one place too long and just might be kicked back again. Bennett also has rules he tries to follow and he tries not to change the future too much although he admits he used his powers to become rich! And well who could blame him?

Anna wanted Bennett to help change some things when her best friends Emma and Justin have an accident. I loved Justin and felt bad for him at times because I knew he liked Anna but was happy it never turned into a love triangle. They were both really good friends to Anna as she went through some tough times with Bennett. Bennett was really sweet and always wanted to do what was best for Anna. He knows their relationship could leave her broken hearted so I think that is why he was so hot and cold at first. But in the end he was willing to give up a lot to be with Anna and so was she. This was such a sweet romance and reminded me of The Time Traveler's Wife but don't worry it has a much happier ending. :-D

"I don't stay...anywhere. I visit. I observe. I leave. I don't ever stay."
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with this information. Tell him to leave? Tell him to stay? But I don't have time to consider any other alternatives because he scoots closer and brings his hands to my face, and I fall back into the bookcase as he kisses me with this intensity-like he wants me to be here, and if he kisses me just long enough, deeply enough, none of what he just said will actually be true.

My face goes blank and I just stare at him. " What are you saying?"

I absolutely adored this book, and that's saying something, because I usually don't enjoy contemporary reads. This is why I love time travel novels!

Anna lives in Chicago and the year is 1995. One day, while she is doing her early morning jog, she sees a guy staring at her on the bleachers. She smiles, and when she looks back at him, he's gone. There is proof that he was there, but there are no footprints, just impacted snow where he was sitting. Later, when her British friend Emma picks her up for school, Anna finds that there is a new kid coming to school. When they finally arrive to school and Anna is in Spanish class, she meets the new kid. He ends up sitting right behind her. It just happens to be the same guy that was watching her earlier. His name is Bennett.

After Bennett tries to save Anna during a robbery at her father's bookstore, all secrets are revealed. Bennett happens to have time traveling capabilities, but he's never told anyone but his parents about it before. This is extremely awkward for Anna because it turns out that 1995 is actually the year that Bennett was born. He tells Anna that he will probably not be able to stay because he's only in the year 1995 for his sister, whom he lost in the year 1994 during a concert. He doesn't know how long he'll be able to stay because it's not that good to mess with time. Would Bennett be willing to stay in 1995 just so he could stay with Anna?

This book was really good. I loved the romance and especially Anna and Bennett. I just love his name too. Bennett... it has this certain kind of sound to it. One of the coolest things about this story was that Bennett had more powers than just time travel. He could also just disappear and reappear somewhere else. As he puts it, he just thinks really hard about the place and then poof he's there. I love the story that he tells of how he came to find out about his powers.

Another great thing about this book was the fact that it was TIME TRAVEL. I absolutely love time travel novels and I really wish that there were more in the YA genre. I'm always interested in time travel and Bennett's version was explained very well by Ms. Stone. I also loved the sense of humor in this book. Though some parts were kind of sad, Bennett always seemed to make me laugh. Especially the car incident. (If you've read the book, you definitely know what I'm talking about!) I'll definitely be reading anything else that Tamara writes in the future, because Time Between Us is a new favorite.

For better or worse, I spent much of this book – particularly in the first half- being reminded over and over again of how similar it is to “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer. Yes, that’s a title that’s uttered with a lot of baggage nowadays, but I really enjoyed reading the first book back in 2007, so this isn’t necessarily to be taken as an insult to “Time Between Us.”

There are a lot of similarities in the way the romance unfolds between Bennett and Anna, our couple here, and Edward and Bella from “Twilight.” (view spoiler) I even felt there were scenes that were written in direct opposition to some of the more controversial aspects of Edward and Bella’s relationship. For example,(view spoiler) Whether it was intentional or not, whether I’m just bringing too much of my own baggage to it or not, the ghosts of Twilight were there throughout much of the book.

But I digress. Reminding me of “Twilight” is, as I said, not necessarily a bad thing. Like Edward and Bella, there was something very sweet about Bennett and Anna and they complemented each other well as a couple. Where things got shifty for me were the thinly drawn and not altogether believable mythology behind Bennett’s time-traveling abilities. The hows and whys are barely touched upon, and a subplot (view spoiler) was rushed to an off-page conclusion. The obstacle that stands in the way of Bennett and Anna’s happy ending is, too, not very well articulated, but for the most part, I enjoyed reading Stone’s quiet and understated debut. Though there is nothing groundbreaking contained within these pages, it’s readable and engaging with a cast of likable characters, and should please YA fans who enjoy a story that’s heavy on the romance and light on the sci-fi.(less)

Loving someone from a distance is hard.
What's even harder is when distance is not the only thing that is keeping you apart.

Time Between Us is a light and wonderful book about two people, not only separated by distance, but also time. A story about do-overs and messing with time to change the bad choices made or the unwanted events. A story about defying the laws of time just to be with the person you love. But I think it is a story of finding where your "fight" is or getting it back in case you lost it along the way. Surprisingly, I actually liked Time Between Us. I stayed up all night reading this book. Thank God it was Saturday. I actually really liked this book. I got this months ago, and kept putting it off, and well, new year, so I might as well get to it. I sort of ran out of renewals at the library... ><

Un giorno Anna, mentre è presa nella sua corsa mattutina, avvista un ragazzo negli spalti, niente di insolito, ma appena si gira, il ragazzo scompare, senza lasciare nessuna traccia, neanche sulla neve. All'inizio crede di esserselo immaginata, ma poi eccolo che si presenta nella sua classe come il nuovo arrivato.
All'inizio è un strano ragazzo, che non da confidenza a nessuno, che dice di non essere lui quel ragazzo sugli spalti, ma quando sente il nome della protagonista sembra riconoscerla.
Anna, ovviamente è intrigata da Bennet, però non riesce a capire il suo comportamento, prima non la vuole attorno, poi si avvicina ed è molto dolce. Per un pò l'avvicina e l'allontana, finchè non è costretto a rivelare il suo segreto.
Bennet, può andare da un posto all'altro, basta che pensi il luogo dove vuole essere, e un minuto dopo è li. Ma non è finita qui, può viaggiare nel tempo, che sia 5 minuti, o 17 anni.
Allora, mi è piaciuto il libro, però la storia non mi convince del tutto. Dice di essere venuto nel 1995 per la sorella, ma non fa nulla per cercarla, si concentra totalmente su Anna. Si scopre in seguito in una lettera, ma non ho capito perchè è stata messa la sorella in mezzo. Mi sono anche chiesta, che senso ha iscriversi nella scuola, frequentare le lezioni?? Non è spiegato bene. Boh è tutto confuso, magari sono io che non sono riuscita a cogliere queste cose, o non riesco a dare un senso. Non so
Ho trovato l'amica della protagonista, Emma, molto viziata ed egoista, si vuole sempre al centro dell'attenzione, io odio i personaggi cosi.
Egoista, perchè sapendo che la sua amica non stava bene, che era un periodo difficile, lei invece che stare ad ascoltarla, le dice "mi manca la mia amica", facendola sentire peggio e soprattutto con i sensi di colpa. Per non parlare della volta che per le sue domande a Bennet ha umiliato Anna, sapendo che lei era contraria.
Va be rimane un libro carino, che ti fa passare le ore con tranquillità. Una lettura molto spensierata, che ti fa venire la voglia di viaggiare, scoprire nuove città, ecc..
Vediamo se il prossimo, saprà conquistarmi.(less)

It's charming, beautiful and I can guarantee that you'll feel better after reading it. It's basically balm for the soul. I strongly believe that there needs to be more books like this out there.

One of my earliest movie memories is of Alfre Woodard going “Look at my butt! Look at my butt!” as she proved what an airhead some other character’s past girlfriend was. It was my first older person movie that I watched pretending not to be too into it since it was my mother’s pick. Perhaps it was the whole look at my butt thing that piqued at me, (scandalous I thought how an older person could be so silly!) OK, it really was that exact scene, but my memories of the movie are a mixed bag of the sweet, silly, stupidly funny and highly romantic… all such descriptive that bring me to the matter at hand: TIME BETWEEN US was all that.

Having read a more than a handful of time travel love story things, one would think the same thing could turn old; surprisingly, I don’t feel that way for this one! Mainly because it wasn’t all flash; it’s but more quiet somehow. Less about the science fiction-y part of things with mentions of butterfly effect, I appreciated that it doesn’t go over board in the explaining, in fact, that’s barely even scratched. This? This is all about connections as well as choices being made:

So, sure Anna could get a little contradictory; and sure all that secret keeping on Bennett’s part is what messed things up… but overall, I bought the connection in the making between the two. Unlike THROUGH TO YOU that tries for a similar vibe, this one actually succeeds in blending what’s romantic and sweet and mysterious snagging my curiosity instead of putting me in the “I am confused mode.” Splitting the time between 1995 then 2012, isn’t the main thing too; more like: it’s Anna learning what she wants and choosing to go after whatever what that happens to be. And then later it’s about being disappointed, about accepting certain consequences, and eventually about doing things for yourself. So that the when isn’t really that big a deal, but what is?

Here, it’s the connections made and the sweetness that’s allowed to happen.

The entire concept of this story takes a very skilled writer to produce. I am so blown away with Tamara Stone’s writing and her ability to make time travel sound and appear so freaking believable. She had my attention the entire time. I was focused on the story and there was no way that I was putting it down because I could not be separated for Anna and Bennett that long. I needed to know everything about Bennett and his ability to travel through time. I wanted to be Anna; I was so jealous! They both seemed so realistic to me. It was like we had been friends forever.

My favorite idea/scenes in this book were after Anna knew what Bennett was capable of and they started to travel the world together. Anna was always into the idea of traveling and reading travel guide books was a favorite hobby that she had. Bennett learned this and started to take her all kinds of places all over the world. My only complaint here is that I wish they would have traveled to more places together! But I think the end of the book kind of left that in the air. Bennett and Anna were so crazy about each other and I love the experiences and moments where it was just them together, on an adventure. Their whole relationship was fueled by adventure, and I believe that is the best relationship to have. Every moment there was something new to explore.

I cannot even express into words how much I loved this book, or how much I admired these characters. Tamara writes awesome secondary characters as well and Anna’s best friend was one of my favorites. I obviously cannot sit and talk about every small and tiny detail that I loved about this book because we will be here until time for dinner tonight! If this book sounds at all interesting to you then please do not hesitate to go out and pick up a copy today or stop by Tamara’s website. I am her new biggest fan!

Bennet, realizing that she knows his time travel secret, takes the letter. Will Anna’s delivery of her letter change everything?

Back in Chicago in the year 1995, Anna sees a boy while out running. He smiles at her, but then he…Disappears? When Anna goes to school, she sees the boy again: he’s the new kid, Bennet. However, Bennet never remembers seeing Anna earlier that morning. It’s only when there’s a robbery at the store Anna works at, and Bennet uses his time travel ability to save her, does Anna begin to figure out the truth about Bennet. Bennet is from San Francisco in 2012, but is back in Anna’s time and place to look for something he lost while time traveling. But what will happen when Anna and Bennet start to fall in love with each other?

I loved the immediate intrigue at the beginning that left me wondering what the letter said and how it would affect Anna and Bennet. I also loved Anna’s British best friend Emma, who was strong, quirky, and such fun to read about. A great debut novel from new author Tamara Ireland Stone.

I was really looking forward to a lot more adventure and time travel, but the pace of this book was surprisingly slow; time travel ended up taking a back seat to the romance between Anna and Bennet. I was also disappointed not to see more San Francisco, different time periods, or how Anna and Bennet dealt with the differences of living 17 years apart. I really wanted to see Anna and Bennet dealing with different popular culture, being curious about the differences between the 1990s and the 2000s, and struggling to see if they have a true future together. I never really felt that we fully explored how Bennet got his abilities, or the true risk of changing the future; instead of a romance that could span through time, I personally felt that it was just like any other romance story. All in all, I recommend this book if you’re looking for a romance with a slight twist; but if you’re looking for a story based on adventure and time travel, you might want to look elsewhere.

One day, Anna is running and sees a stranger watching from the stands – some dude with shaggy hair and a ball cap. He’s gone later, and she discovers there are no foot prints leading to or from his seat. Later still, she sees the same guy at school in her Spanish class, and he doesn’t seem to know who she is. Now we readers know something is afoot, and just wait for Anna to figure it out. This particular reader has read a few time travel books and is thinking, hmmm, maybe this is another one.

Anna is a high school student in the Chicago area in 1995. She has two working parents who love her and encourage her running. Time Between Us started off slow for me, but along the pages it turned into something more. The story was kind of slow paced until nearly half-way through the book. Then, everything started to develop and the connection between the two main characters began to build in just the sweetest way.

Time Between Us was a wonderful aside from the typical paranormal romance. I have to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this wonderful book ahead of time, and say that when it comes out, it should be bought and placed on the shelf to be read over and over.

This is such a hard book to discuss because when I start talking about the plot, you'll probably be like, "Ugh, it's like The Lake House" or "So...YA version of The Time Traveler's Wife?" And sort of, yes. But not really.

I really had no idea what to expect from this novel. I skimmed over from reviews and most everyone seemed just tickled by it…
For me, reading is an emission to another world. I crave the feeling of being lost in the characters and story line. It’s important for the author to be strong and convincing when dealing with slightly fictional plots.
