An interesting and enjoyable read through Francis Newman's journey of intellectual challenge and his struggles with faith. Much of it I followed with sympathy though in the later stages I was struck by a degree of naïveté about the human condition and how people react, as well as a sense that he was much too defensive, spending excessive time and space defending himself against critics who were clearly malign.
