Recommends it for: people who like their poems dense
This is some amazing contemporary poetry. I managed to get through it (with some understanding) by reading it as a "choose your own adventure" type book. See how the story, characters, change when reading the poems in a different order. Start in the middle or the end and flip to different poems to create your own story of murder, guilt, repentence, judgement, acceptance.

Okay, so the date is early because I read a draft of the manuscript the year it won the NPS. Come to think of it, Ray had an idea for a limited edition box where the poems would be indivdiually printed on cards and read in whatever order you wanted...I wonder whatever came of that?
