Fetish was a book I randomly picked up from my mountain of unread books. And after reading several mind consuming psychological thrillers prior, I believe my subconscious was saying ‘You’re ready for this’. Fetish was a laid-back, no nonsense murder mystery, which I really enjoyed. It was one of those books where you could kick your feet up, and watch everything unfold. It wasn’t highly suspenseful but it had enough brutality in parts to make you squirm. And the romance was pleasurable and not o ...more

Given the concerns about representations of violence against women in popular culture, I often wonder about women who write violent crime stories. And women who like to read or watch violent crime stories. I am sympathetic to the critiques of the parade of brutally abused female body parts across our screens and pages; and, from what I've gleaned of Tara Moss on the periphery of my Twitter feed, she certainly wouldn't be advocating a sensationalising of violence against women, despite the fairly ...more

This is a solid crime/thriller story, featuring a kick ass, intelligent heroine, a gruff but lovable hero, and a truly disturbing psychopathic killer.

Makedde was a great female lead. She may have been a gorgeous international model, but she oozed intelligence and determination. Her emotional reactions to the horrible circumstances she found herself in were relatable, but they never clouded her judgement or led to any irrational decision making, even in times of danger. This was great bec

Makedde Vanderwall is a Canadian model on assignment in Australia. The advantage with some work down under is the fact that she will get to see her good friend Cassandra again. But when Cassandra is found dead by Mak she finds herself in a cat and mouse game to catch the killer before he gets her. Who can she trust and where can she turn when she’s a stranger in a land without any friends?

Makadde is a beautiful, tall and curvy international model who is studying psychology; she’s basically Tara

Tara Moss has done something interesting: she has written an amateurish, third-rate crime novel, but not one that made me want to never read her again. This is a skill, but it's not one that can disguise the sheer sloppiness of Fetish.

Makedde ("Ma-cay-de") Vanderwall is a psychology student who works as a model to pay for her tuition. Makedde comes to Sydney for work and to meet her childhood friend, only to find that she has been brutally murdered by the Stiletto Killer. From there, Makedde fli

Fetish is the first book in the Makedde Vanderwall series and has long been on my TBR list. I picked up a copy quite some time back from a second-hand bookstore mainly because the protagonist was a psychology student and it hinted at romantic elements alongside the crime plot. I was interested to see how Tara Moss, an accomplished supermodel executed this crime story, especially since I’d heard the extents to which she conducts her research.

Fetish certainly didn’t disappoint. I read i

DNF. I can see where this plot is leading and I am not happy. This main character is stubborn AND stupid. Crank phone calls? Definately not a stalker no it must be a wrong number over and over and over. Ugh. I also really hate the love interest. He is made out to be this borderline abusive guy that I would not go within 100 metres of, yet the main character is attracted to him anyway?? I can't finish this one dont make me

Okay - first mistake was listening to the audio version, which is narrated by Tara Moss. Without wanting to be over-criticising, it was irritating to listen to. Everyone sounded the same, which was confusing, there was hardly any difference in the accents either.

Second clue - my friend, who likes these kind of books, couldn't really remember the story. Bad sign.

My neighbour recently found out I was a "reader" (sounds like something I need to be cured of) and handed me a book. She stated that she was not a reader, yet this was a book that she could not put down. This got me intrigued. What type of book would tempt a non-reader to read and make a non-reader read non-stop.

Off home I run with book in hand and of course the first thing I do is log on to Goodreads to mark the book as Currently Reading. Oh No. That will not do. The boo

i was lent this book by someone at work who highly recommended this series by Tara Moss and I was not disappointed. Fetish follows Makedde (Mak) during her stay in Australia after she discovers her best friend murdered by a serial killer. The story is told from varying POVs, even the serial killer himself but is strategically done so that no clues or names are given as to who he actually is... until Mak discovers that info. This kept me clueless as to who could possibly be the killer and kept me ...more

It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't good. There were way too many stereotypes in here to really keep my interest, and the author seemed to want to go for quantity over quality (cram more dead bodies in but don't have any type of psychological impact on the remaining characters). The reason I stopped reading Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwall was the astonishing number of times their lead characters found themselves in the sight of a killer - in this book, just the first in the series, she's t ...more

Fetish has broken two firsts for me 1 - It is set in Bondi, Sydney!! Close to my hometown so its nice being able to read something that is set in Australia 2 - Its my first mystery book and I don't know if this book was so good because its the first book I have read like this or if it truly is a great book. Either way I loved it!!

This is the first book I've read from Tara Moss and I was pleasantly surprised. The plot, with its multiple twists and viewpoints, kept me hooked. Tara has obviously gone to great lengths with her research, and I found the main character's occupation an interesting change to those in other crime novels I've read. I listened to the audio version, read by Tara Moss and she has done a good job with the reading as well. My only real issue with the book was that I found the character of Andy Flynn's ...more

As a crime story Fetish is great. The pacing is really effective, the tension takes hold in your guts, and Moss genuinely had me wondering who the perpetrator was the whole time. Fetish is also really convincing and compelling since it’s so thoroughly researched – it contains a wealth of detail about the Australian police force, murder inquiries, legal processes and particular investigative protocols without ever reading like an information dump. I was really impressed with how much Moss seemed ...more

I listened to this on the way to and from campus for night classes. A fascinating story with the POV of the killer really chilling. The story of a Canadian model who is caught up in a serial killer's fantasies is a good premise and I did like reading the book. I did however, find some of the dialogue stilting, maybe even more so since it was the audio version. And the pronunciation of 'skata' by Jimmy was something that jerked me out of the story for a second because was it was wrong. A

The crime thriller novel is a very popular section in literature. The format allows for a wide range of styles and ideas, there is the cynical Phillip Marlowe and Sam Spade style, and the world weary but hopeful Michael Connelly series of Harry Bosch stories. Miss Marple, Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, The Ladies No.1 Detective Agency, yes, it's a field of fiction full of strong characters, dastardly deeds, and mind puzzles.

My first Tara Moss novel (and I believe this was her first novel written too).

A whole lot better than what I had expected I must say.

The story of Canadian Makedde (Mak) Vanderwall, gorgeous fashion model of amazonian proportions with real curves, who comes to Sydney Australia for a work assignment and gets caught up in the murder of her model friend Katherine.

It's a little bit Nancy Drew-ish (more grown up of course) at times, meets the world of SVU or CSI, as the reader is drawn into the world

I'd never heard of Tara Moss the author before I saw her on the Australian TV show "Q and A" and was surprised to see that Moss the model and Moss the author were one and the same person. Being a fan of crime fiction I ordered this, her first book figuring it would make ideal Xmas reading. And it certainly is.

Beginning writers are always encouraged to write about what they know, so Moss' choice to make her leading character a glamour model with a penchant for crime fighting was a natural. I've

Makedde Vanderwall is beautiful. The Canadian born model has relied on her tall, blonde curvaceous looks for over ten year now. She’s approaching the end of her modelling career, being a grand old 25yrs of age so she’s making the most of it while she can. A proud Australian size 10 with no starving herself going on here, she flies into Sydney to visit with her friend Cassandra, a fellow Canadian model working down under for a little while. Cassandra is a childhood friend, someone Mak knew when s ...more

This was exactly the book I needed to get me out of my reading slump!

I have been wanting to read a Moss crime book for a long time. I watch her show on the CI channel and she has a damn impressive research resume (which includes being set on fire, knocked out, and gun training), so I had a high hopes and those high hopes were definitely met.

The way that Moss writes is effortless and captivating. The pages were flying by and before I even knew it it had ended. My biggest regret is not buying t
