Alpha Instinct has all the elements that make up a typical urban fantasy novel:
1. An Alpha hero and an alpha heroine as main characters (which basically means that both are strong-willed, stubborn creatures, with the only difference in their rank being that the heroine decides the course of action and the hero executes it).
2. The main couple have been together in the past, but one of them broke it off due to unspecified reasons. Of course, ten years down the lane, their paths cross and they're s More...

Alpha Instinct is a wolfishly sexy read that will leave you howling for more!
Ana Cordona is the Alpha of the Cordona pack after all the males and pregnant females were mysteriously poisoned, and though her pack respects her leadership, Ana knows that she won’t be able to hold it for long. With no Alpha male to lead, her pack is easy pickings for the more aggressive males of the breed and vulnerable to take over. Analena “Ana” Cordona’s shifter pack’s water supply was poisoned wiping out all their males and the pregnant females swiftly and mercilessly. As the eldest daughter of the pack Alpha, Ana stepped in as leader but she knows the clock is ticking. The North American Council governing wolf shifters will never accept her as Alpha due to the patriarchal rules governing their society. In addition, the neighboring, shifter’s vicious, deranged Alpha wants Ana and her pack’s land. Ana is strong, smart and More...

While reading I couldn't decide whether I didn't like this novel at all or if it was a meh read only. Then I finished and thought about it.
This novel has only a light world-building and what it is there is fucked up. Sexism wins the day. Women and men are separated and only a lip-service is given to this (when the heroine whines about it). But basically all the plot is based on women being and doing separate things, you know, like cooking vs checking the border. Oh, and being weaker More...

Ana’s has been barely holding her pack together, her pack was attacked a few years before and all of the males and the pregnant females died due to poisoning. She has also been under pressure to unite with another group of shifters, but their alpha is crazy and wants to hurt her. One day her childhood love, Connor comes back to lead her pack and become her bondmate, Ana is hesitant because he left her years ago without explanation and she is afraid he will hurt her again meanwhile he is afraid s More...

Y’all know I love a good shifter story. Alpha Instinct is the first book in the Moon Shifter series and I enjoyed reading it.
Ana Cordona has been taking care of her pack ever since her father, their pack leader, and all the other men in the pack died of poisoning. I liked Ana’s character for the most part. I felt for Ana, she has had to hold up her pack and stay strong for them through her parent’s deaths. Being a pack alpha is not what Ana was made to do, but she will do whatever it takes to ke More...

Ana Cordona, is the pack’s Alpha oldest daughter and her life wasn’t perfect, but damn close to it, until all the males and pregnant females of her pack died from poisoning. The culprit still hasn’t been found and with half her pack decimated, and both her parents dead, she has to stay strong for the females of her pack. It’s not easy though, Taggart, the misogynist alpha of the neighboring pack wants her – and her territory- for himself and nothing will stop him. But like it wasn’t enough, wome More...

Ana ga mau syarat itu, namun More...

Quite enjoyable. Really like the characters. The series reminds me of Jennifer Ashley's Shifter series. The method of story telling is even the same. Despite that, I still very much enjoyed the book.
Ana and Connor proved the be quite the frustrating couple. All they had to do was open up to each other and they wouldn't have been hurting so much. Even so, they are good for each other and I'm glad they worked things out. I like Liam and December together. Granted, that couple reminds me a lot of L More...

When readers first meet Ana her pack has been drastically reduced in size by an attack via poisoning. This has left her and her fellow pack mates vulnerable. The poisoning only took the lives of the males, pregnant females, and the mated females who could not go on without their mates. Ana knows that this is a very bad situation to find herself in. She knows that if she goes to the Council for assistance they will just send a male pack her way to take over. She is also getting threats from a nei More...

The book ended up being pretty good. I admit that I had high hopes for it, but it didn't quite meet those hopes. I think there was a bit too much going on in the book. One of the plots could have been kept until the next book and I guess one was, in a way. There were three villains in this book with some minions. I also admit to getting a little irritated with the characters. The heroine going back and forth about does she love him, nope I need to keep my distance, why did he leave me long ago.. More...

This was my first paranormal read by Katie Reus. With werewolf/shifter books you never know how much is going to be in the human form versus the animal form. I tend to like the ones that think/react more with their human side and I was very pleased with the balance in this book. I thought Katie did a very good job with creating the characters and making them believable as the characters maintained a daily life mingling with humans. It made the idea of shifters more real to me. I thought the inti More...

Alpha Instinct is the first book in the new Moon Shifter series by Katie Reus and a Paranormal Romance from Signet Eclipse.
Book Blurb:
Fear has a scent. So does desire...
Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong More...

Alpha Instinct is great beginning to the new Moon Shifter series. Ana Cordona is now Alpha of her wolf pack after all the males and pregnant females were poisoned several months ago. She is tough and determined to keep the remaining pack safe. She also knows that she is not a physical match against her neighboring Alpha’s attempts to claim her pack and her land. When her old flame and now Alpha of his own pack, Connor Armstrong, comes to her rescue, she agrees to mate with him to save her pack. More...

3.5-4*s Ana Cordona's wolf shifter pack was poisoned, and all the males and pregnant females died. Ana is left as the Alpha female, but a neighboring Alpha is starting to harass her--and worse. Connor, a blast from her past, shows up with his pack of wolf shifter warriors--and a few surprises--to provide protection. At the price of mating with Ana.
I realize that Katie was setting up the second book in this first one, but it felt like there were too many plots going at once. Also, I thought that More...

Yawn
I had the distinct impression that I had read this book before.
Lone female in charge of her pack - check
Bossy, monosyllabic Alpha she's forced to join forces with - check
psychotic Alpha who treats females badly wants to mate with her - check
Just once I'd like the male were lead to be a Beta, or even (shock)an intellectual. Could someone think of a more original way of mating? Also why do all were novels have the couple having sex even though they don't talk to/respect/trust/love each other. More...

The Pack were poisoned and all the males died. Ana doesn't know who poisoned them.
Sean Taggart wants to take over the pack and be the Alpha. Right away at the beginning of the book you can see how cocky he is.
I find it interesting that the shifters in the book have such a long lifespan. Also shifters aren't the only think living among the human. When the shifters came out to the public the vampires did too.
Not only is ana dealing with Sean Taggart, there is also Connor who wants to be the Alpha More...

This book and I got off to a rough start. Ana is supposed to be a female alpha. I fully support this. But instead of kicking ass and taking names, she waits around for a man to take care of her. She needs a man to stabilize her pack, protect them and keep them financially afloat. I don't understand how she's a alpha of she can't take care of and protect her pack.
I did warm up to the story as I got deeper into it. There are several threads running through it and I think Reus pulled them together More...

Local alpha female Ana knows she can’t stay unmated for long. You might as well paint a big bullseye on her all female pack is she does. After a virus wiped out nearly her entire pack, Ana was left to deal with the emotional aftermath. Still reeling from the loss Ana does the best she can to ensure the safety of the survivors and the prosperity of her land.
With the unexpected return on her first love, Conner, Ana knows she needs to accept his offer of protection. But that’s not all he wants. He More...

In Alpha Instinct, the main character is Ana Cordona. She becomes the Alpha of her pack of werewolves, after a tragic act of hatred. She is headstrong, independent, and feels like she needs to take care of everyone at all costs!

Definitely more PNR than UF. Even so, this is not bad, but not really something I got too excited about. My guess is that my friends who read more PNR than I do will probably like it more than I did.

Debated how many stars to give this one. I'm leaving it at 3. I enjoyed the book overall. There were a few things I wish were a bit different. First there just to many bad guys. The neighboring pack, the APL, and the independent bad guy. Two would have been less confusing. Also all the females in this book except Erin are pretty wimpy. Even the Alpha females. Granted Ana admits she is an Alpha not a warrior she still needs to stand up for herself better because she is an Alpha. Conner's always t More...

Ana has been serving as Alpha of her pack ever since someone killed off all the men and pregnant females. But she knows she won't be able to keep the job for long. Werewolves respect physical strength and even though she is a good leader, she would lose to a strong male in a fight. Her neighbor, Taggart, is already sniffing around, making it clear he wants her as a mate. So when Connor and his pack come with an offer to join Ana and her wolves, she barely hesitates to say yes.

Prelim Review: While I had a couple of qualms in regards to frequently repeated phrases (Reus really liked to bring up the Council's Enforcer) or concepts (I understand that Ana wouldn't be considered a true Alpha) overall I really enjoyed the first book in her new series. The issues I had with her shorter story, DESTINED MATE, were pretty much answered and fixed in this longer book in fact.
What I liked a lot about it was that while its clearly the first book, and thus has a lot of character int More...
