Fun and engaging as always, this book is a great introduction for learning about the solar system. It provides great vocabulary as well as definitions; there is also a video that goes along with the book which would be a good way to follow up any astrological lesson on our solar system. The book is based on the premise of the students going on a field trip to a planetarium that turns out to be closed, so they board the magic school bus and visit the actual solar system instead. A great and inter...more
This is a fun magic school bus book in which Ms Frizzle's class takes a trip to space. On their trip, the class learned many things about space. A few of the things they learn about are the order of the planets, the effect of less or more gravity on an object, and the various geographic features that can be observed on planets such as Mars. While this is a very content heavy book, it is still presented in a way that is fun and engaging for students to read and learn from. There are many activiti...more
This classic Magic School Bus book is a wonderful information book. Growing up I cannot say I remember reading this book or really reading all the way through any magical school bus book, but I do remember watching the videos.

When Ms. Frizzle’s class tries to take a field trip to the planetarium and find that it’s closed for repairs, they blast off for a field trip in outer space instead. On their journey, they stop at the sun and each planet and learn interesting facts. Suddenly, the students’ tether to the bus snaps and the bus zooms far away. The students continue their journey through the planets while searching for Ms. Frizzle. They find Ms. Frizzle in the asteroid belt and are soon able to return to Earth. Magi...more
I'm not a huge Magic School Bus fan. It is so fanciful, and that's not my thing. The books are written with much clutter, which does not appeal to me. Instead of a straight story, there are notes all about and multiple stories on the page.
Having said that, this is okay in learning about the solar system. For a book written in 1990, it even discusses Pluto's state as a planet or not. I learned that Pluto has a moon, which I did not know.

OK, so a book that starts this conversation is GREAT!!
Sitting at traffic light in car, looking at the sunset:
5 yr old: Mommy did you know, the sun is a giant ball of gas?
Me: Why, yes it is...[thus ensues a conversation on the size of the sun compared to the earth, other planets in the solar system, etc.)
When I asked her if they were talking about the sun/solar system in preschool, she said no, she was reading about it in the Magic School Bus book.
Can I just say - AWESOME!!!! = )
Doesn't hurt that...more

The Magic School Bus books never get old. This is a great science content book for students to dive in and explore the solar system. It also teaches students the relationship of different things in the solar system together. A fun activity with this book is to be able to read the book, watch the video that goes along with this movie, and have students design a new planet trying to keep key elements of planets in line with their...more

The Magic School Bus books and episodes are always a must in my classroom! I love that these stories can be used throughout all subjects, not just for literacy! I would use this book in particular to introduce students to new concepts and vocabulary, and I would most definitely lead all this into science as well. Students could watch the corresponding episode as a follow-up activity along with several other scientific activities. It helps teachers talk about various things that exist in our sola...more
Favorite tv show ever! Im so glad they have books as well. This book is very similar to a graphic novel in the fact that it has speech and narrative incorporated into the pictures. This book is very colorful and has fun detailed illustrations. I liked the fact that at the beginning it had a definition of solar system and what it actually is before it started teaching it. This book teaches in a fun interactive way. This book makes learning seem enjoyable.
The magic school bus (along with Arnold's cousin, Janet travel through the solar system when they find out that the planetarium is closed. As they travel through every planet, Janet annoys the rest of the class with how everything at her school is better or how much better she is. Using the lesson plans, they are able to find Ms. Frizzle as she gets lost in space.
Uses great vocabulary and brief information about the planets and other factors in space.

The specific book I chose to review is an audio book. This audio book takes the students on a field trip to the planetarium where they suddenly end up zooming through the atmosphere, to the moon, and back! It is perfect for ESOL students because it is an audio CD that the students can listen to and follow along with in their individual copies of the story. This method of learning will enhance the student’s English comprehension as well.
This is a great book to use when teaching the solar system. Children love the magic school bus and have fun getting to know the different characters. The pictures in this book are great. It would be fun for the students to be able to see the solar system through the eyes of Ms. Frizzle and her class. This book is full of great facts about the solar system that could easily be used to introduce or reinforce concepts of the solar system.
I would love to use this piece of literature to use it as a "hook" for a science lesson. This book is about a teacher named Ms. Frizzle who takes her class on crazy cool field trips as learning experiences. In this story, Ms. Frizzle takes her class out into the solar system to give this hands-on experience. Reading about this experience will allow students to think outside the box and live vicariously through Ms. Frizzle and her students.
The solar system is huge, dark, vast, and has a red headed teacher guiding her class through it on a magical school bus. This sounds like a wild dream, but for Mrs. Frizzles class, this is just another field trip! In this edition of The Magic School Bus, we find ourselves lost in space. Sure, this may sound like a horror story, but in fact we learn a lot along the way. Like, did you know Saturn's rings are actually made up of dust and ice? Or that Venus once had an atmosphere like us on Earth? W...more
I grew up loving magic school bus computer games, toys and especially the books. Today, I still love reading about Ms. Frizzle and the gang's adventures. The vocabulary is great and the amount of information is useful and easily digested by young readers. As a tutor, I have found that these books are great for keeping kids engaged. The solar system is one of my all-time favorites because I've always loved astronomy.
Illustrated by Bruce Degen. It was really interesting to read one of the Magic School Bus books again as an adult. I could definitely see what appealed to me as a child. With very minimal "actual" text, all of the extra "blurbs" are what make this series so interesting. It also has a pretty dry sense of humor too which I definitely appreciated. I'll continue to recommend the series for sure.
Most people love the magic school bus. I don't. I think they are chaotic and stressful to read. Each page has so many text boxes and speech bubble along with the story narration that I never know what to read first, and it frustrates me.
The good thing, though, is that it is chock full of great scientific information, and the information is presented in a fun, imaginative way.

The Magic School book does it again and grasps students attention while teaching them about the solar system in this interesting story! I would use this book in a science lesson on the solar system because it gives a lot of factual information about the planets in the solar system. This book can be used for students in grades 1st-4th grade.
This is funny to read after the various controversies surrounding Pluto, but it's still a great and informative kids' book--that's also fun for an adult! And even Janet in all her braggadocio is interesting; these books amaze me in that they kind of have a plot going on around all of the learning and weirdness...well done there.
This book provides a touch of fiction with nonfiction which helps students to learn about space with a fiction storyline but with real facts about space incorporated. The students can write a short story incorporating real facts into their topic about space. It could also be a short comic book type writing but with real facts included.

The magic School bus gives content to the students in a fun and exciting way that keeps them interested about the topic at hand. This story is no exception. The students will explore our solar system and learn about the cellectial bodies that float arounf in this thing called "space."

Children who have seen the Magic School Bus on TV or in school love to read these books because they are familiar and exciting. I like to let students read these books because they are pack full of great information on many different topics. This book covers each planet in our solar system, as well as the moon and the sun.
Where this excelled at sharing facts in a way that is worthy of being emulated in textbooks for youth, it fell short in delivering a real, and cohesive, story. Good for the 4-6 crowd.
Frankly, if the average student masters most of the MSB series, they could probably get through many state high school exams too. But I digress.

Ms. Frizzle’s class takes a field trip to the solar system. They learn about the sun, moon, the asteroid belt, and the planets of course! I think this book would be excellent when introducing the solar system to students. It has great questions and answers throughout the book about the solar system.
