4 to 4 1/2 SHINING STARS!!!

I'm going to make this review short and to the point.

This story was fantastic. The writing was superb and the plot marvelously creative. The characters were multi-layered, endearing, and wonderfully human. Unlike some of Banks's other books, the sex scenes were tastefully written and only moderately graphic.

I love when authors include delightfully written children within the plot, and I found myself eagerly looking forward to the interaction

In Bed with a Highlander was a great surprise! I really enjoyed reading this sweet and sexy Highland romance.

Mairin has spent years at a nunnery because she is the illegitimate daughter of the former King of Scotland and has a generous dowry that would tempt men to force her into marriage. She is abducted from the nunnery by bad men loyal to Duncan Cameron, who tries to get her to marry him then beats her when she refuses to say her vows. Along the trip to Cameron lands, her k

★★★✩✩ I guess I’m in the minority on this one. Lots of my GoodReads friends that I am so often in synch with loved this one. I couldn’t get past a couple of things. Still, I’m willing to give this author another try. I’ve just requested the next book in the series from the library instead of purchasing it this time. Lost interest at a crucial point and had to force myself to go back to it. (Really needed the “I” in the title for a challenge!) Never a good thing. So, consider that, and take my

In Bed with a Highlander is the first in a new historical romance trilogy by Maya Banks. First off, the covers of this trilogy are amazing, not to mention they all feature the hottie that is Paul Marron. Cue swoons.

But there is more! Banks introduces three McCabe brothers who are simply delicious. In Bed with a Highlander is Ewan McCabe’s story. Ewan is the laird of his keep, where his brothers Alaric and Caelen are his second in command. While Ewan himself

What a great start to a highlander series! I’ll be honest, until now I instantly dismissed any Maya Banks book. After reading, (and not really liking), her erotic ménage book ‘Colters’ Woman’ a few years ago, I just knew she wasn’t an author for me. But, never say never, right? Right. Despite so many of my online friends repeatedly saying her new series are great, that they are nothing like her earlier erotica stuff, I still held off reading them. But I love a good steamy highland novel, so last ...more

A Fun, Romantic, Sexy Tale!

In Bed with a Highlander is the first book in the McCabe Trilogy, a sexy, romantic, fun historical romance written by the very talented Maya Banks. I thoroughly enjoyed this story with its twists and turns, wonderful characters, sweet romance and the steamy sex that Ms. Banks writes so well.

The Story

The story opens with Mairin Stewart being kidnapped from the nunnery she’d spent most of her life hiding away in. The illegitimate daughter of the king, Mairin is heiress t

In Bed with a Highlander: A DAZZLING historical romance sure to leave you sated yet hungry for more of Maya Banks stellar writing!

Honestly, it is quite ridiculous how much I enjoyed this here book. I've surpassed fangirldom and have nothing but pure appreciation for this book. It's 5:03 AM and though I have a busy day ahead of me, given I had even an iota of a chance, I would wholeheartedly start the next in the series.

I love the KGI series by Maya Banks, but when it came to reading her historicals I balked. In the past, I’ve found that when I like books of one genre by an author I don’t normally like books of other genres by the same author. So I put off reading this book. Even the description didn’t sway me. It just didn’t appeal.

However, Alyssa kept bugging me to read this book. She promised I would like it. Every time I was looking for a book to read she would beg me to read this. And every time I would p

After reading this entire book, I would say the comparison to Julie Garwood's Highland romance books is apt. Yet, it's good to have a new author who writes Highland romance with a lovable heroine and a fierce hero who is not quite tamed, but definitely gives his heart to her. If it works, why not do it?

Favorite aspects of this novel:

*Hands down, I really like Mairin. Who doesn't like a heroine who is genuinely kind and good-hearted? One who is also tough and determined but sweet and innocent as

I don't know about you, but I'm starting to think that if you've read one highland romance, you've read them all. I'm not knocking on Ms. Banks in particular because she writes very well. There's just absolutely nothing new or special here. And I think I've read this same plot line in at least half a dozen romances: A pretty little Scottish heiress, hiding out from an evil chief/laird/lord who wants to force her into marriage to claim her lands, ends up in the hands of a rival, gruff yet good, c ...more
The first book in Maya Banks' McCabe series, set in Medieval Scotland. Googling in the information provided in the novel I believe this story is set around the year 1134. The heroine, Mairin, is stolen from an abbey where she was hiding. Mairin escapes and ends up with hero, Ewan McCabe. While a bit spicy in places I did find it sweet. Some have compared this to Julie Garwood's historicals and I did find a similarity here and there. Mainly with the stubbornness of the heroine and the alphaness o ...more
Mairin is tenacious and witty and she needs it to confront her arrogant, stubborn highlander.

"In bed with a highlander" surely makes for a good start to a highlander series. It was recommended to me by a Goodreads friend and I'm not disappointed in the least. I really enjoyed these 2 characters as well as the sensual sparks between them.

I absolutely adore Maya Banks historical fiction. She created an amazingly realistic backdrop and provides characters with depth. This one is no different. I felt like I was part of this world and got so sucked into the story that I read until almost two in the morning without even realizing it.

I'm in love with Maya Banks' writing! Seriously. Her Highlanders are absolutely fantastic and I cannot even begin to describe just how much. *swoon* While I did love Never Seduce a Scot a bit more, mainly because this one didn't hook me quite as quickly, In Bed with a Highlander definitely didn't dis

I must say for the first time writing an historical romance that Maya Banks did an amazing job. I was glued to the pages from the moment I started reading this book.

I LOVED all the characters. Mairin the heroine was my favorite. Right from the start she was a fierce protector putting her own life in danger to save others from harm. She had the cutest habit of saying her thoughts out loud
Amazing !!! I can always count on a highlander to sweep me off my feet and have my heart soar to the skies !

Ewan McCabe, the eldest, is a warrior determined to vanquish his enemy. Now, with the time ripe for battle, his men are ready and Ewan is poised to take back what is his—until a blue-eyed, raven-haired temptress is thrust upon him. Mairin may be the salvation of Ewan’s clan, but for a man who dreams only of revenge, matters of the heart are strange territory to conquer.

4.5/5 - As much as I love Ewan and his brothers, Alaric and Caelen, Mairin stole the show. Being the illegitimate daughter of the King comes with a dowry that makes her so sought after, she hides out for most of her life in an abbey. When her identity is found out, she’s taken away from the only life she’s known and is about to be forced into a marriage she doesn’t want. Wonderful! The McCabe brothers have stolen my heart, as well as the adorable Crispin. Ewan wanted to marry Mairin for what the union would bring to his clan, and found himself captivated by her charming and determined ways. Her relationship with Crispin warmed my heart, in the way of mother and child. She challenged Ewan and his brothers at every turn, and proved to be as fierce and protective as they were of the ones she loved. This devotion and determination earned her the loyalty and acceptan ...more
A fantastic start to a new series by Maya Banks. Loved it.

Since I just went on a bit of a re-read binge of Julie Garwood historicals a few weeks ago, and it was only last week that I just re-read Ransom for the millionth time, it was only natural that I had some comparisons going in my head at the beginning. Fans of Garwood will see some similarities in this book and Ransom right off, but Banks' writing and story will move you past those and get you lost in the story.

Ewan n Mairin's story has some great moments.some are tender, some are hilarious!I love that maya banks was able to share a story between two people who when your start reading come across as completely mismatched for each other.

Its interesting to see mairin wanting to settle down accept the clan as her family.its also interesting to see her fight for the rights n dignity of the women in her clan.its cute to witness her innocence n her inquisitive nature.

I really liked this! this was the first HR by Maya Banks I've read and I plan on continuing with the series. I really liked The McCabe boys, and find myself very curious about Alaric and Caelen. They intrigued me more than Ewan but hotness definitely runs in their family!

I liked Mairin, how she grew from a naive, young thing to a gutsy mistress of the keep. I liked seeing how her relationship with Ewan grew from necessity to love, very sweet. Im very much looking forward to seeing what else happ

This was my first Maya Banks' book. Considering that I owned the first 5 books of her Sweet series, I had always assumed that my first book of hers would be from that series. However, somehow, I ended up reading a historical Scottish romance instead.

In Bed with a Highlander feels like a typical HR. You have the feisty but tender-hearted damsel in distress, the arrogant but sexy laird, the 'forced' wedding, political intrigue, kidnappings and heroic rescues. But as most romance readers would say
I absolutely loved this book. I love how Mairin often defies Ewan, it absolutely cracks me up. I think the Laird has met his match. I love the old fashioned romance too and looking forward to reading more of the McCabe brothers.

For a paranormal reader like me to give this historical read a 5 star rating you know this book has to be good especially since I really do not get into historical reads. However I have to admit Maya Banks story telling is absolutely brilliant and refreshing. I haven’t read a historical book this good since Diana Gabaldon. This read caught me from the very first page and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I just wanted more and can hardly wait for the next book to come out in th

This was a great little gem of a book. I've never read anything from Maya Banks before, but I'll definitely be continuing with the McCabe Trilogy - those are some hot and sexy highland brothers!!

In this book we meet the eldest of the McCabe brothers, Ewan, laird of the McCabe clan, and Mairin, illegitimate daughter of the former Scottish king and heir to a politically important stronghold in the highlands. After escaping the dastardly, villainous Duncan Cameron who tries

Mairin has been hiding out in a nunnery, hoping to prepare herself for a husband of her choosing since her child will be the heir to a large fortune and property. One night she is taken by some men to bring her to their Laird and along the way she protects a young boy. When they finally get there, the Laird beats her unmercifully. A few of the servants feel bad for her and help her and they boy escape. The boy claims that his father will protect her so they head to his keep.

This is a throwback to romances of the past, the sort with feisty kittenish heroines who tame mighty warriors with their ineffectual adorableness. I didn't get very far with it in print, but thought it might be worth a listen -- and since Kirsten Potter is very good with both accents and love scenes, it was. The ending is particularly romantic.
