Wow loved...loved...LOVED this book! :)

I stumbled across this book on facebook and just the cover drew me in. (I'm a sucker when it comes to gorgeous book covers.)

When I read the prologue for "Captivated," I thought this is going to be so good. Boy, was I wrong. The storyline had amazing potential but the mediocre writing, lack of sound characterization and a weak execution of the plot made this a difficult read for me at times.

I have to admit, I was initially lured in by the stunningly beautiful cover of this novel. It is haunting, beautiful, and mysterious. D. Apodaca managed to pull all of those same elements into her plot.

Main character, Mindy, is your average teenage girl until her friend Dean's parents are tragically murdered. Dean undergoes a radical transformation into a withdrawn, brooding person that Mindy no longer seems to know.

I liked it but I didn't love it. I am anxious to read the second installment but only because in true YA form it ended on a cliff hanger. I really enjoyed the "bad" vampire idea, as well as the slayers. However my issues lie in how long it took to get that info. oh wow! D! this book is STUNNING! I loved it! the characters are awesome! I LOVE DEAN! wow! WOW! I don't even know what to SAY about this book without spoilers..... I want to blurt it all out! and the ENDING! I was holding my breath for the last 20 or so pages! AHHHHH! I need book 2! NOW! STAT!

Loved this book, couldn't put it down!!

However from a critique point of view, it was really badly edited. I have read review before when people comment on the editing and I have never noticed before. I would think, you obviously weren't into the story enough to even notice!

Mindy and Dean used to be best friends...always there for each other...always making each other smile but then everything changed. The Dean Mindy knew disappeared, he became distant and reclusive and along with the loss of his radiant smile, Mindy lost his friendship.

I don't review books very often, but I felt I should on this one. I got this book for free on amazon. As I do for all of these types of books. For me they are typically a fast & easy read before bed. Most of them are terrible. This one thankfully surprised me! For me, all the paranormal romances I read tend to blend together. Some stand out for having a decent story and this is one of them. After reading it, I went and bought the second book in the series, which I almost never do.
