I'm from Lisbon and I lend this book to couchsurfers... I think that says it all... But it could have so much more....

My first Eyewitness guide. I bought this second-hand and only paid £3 for it, which is good, because I would have been annoyed if I had paid the full price of £10.99. It was good for reading about the various sights, but difficult to use. I did not find it intuitive, and it didn't even cover the whole city, just four parts of it. It's practical sections, such as the restaurant guide, were uninspiring and very difficult to read, with no photos or features. Not recommended.

I do recommend this book. My visit to Lisbon wouldn't have been the same without it. That said, it focuses on the north bank, with Alfama, Baixa, Chiado and the Bairro Alto. The place highlights, travellers' information were excellent. The maps were invaluable.

Whereever I travel, I will hereafter look for an Eyewitness Travel Guide. Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

I took two books along on my recent visit to Lisbon - this one and Rick Steve's Spain and Portugal. They complemented each other in their coverage and both are fairly small for ease in carrying around. This DK guide has great photos and short description paragraphs about the sites and the history.
