Ok, I know what you're thinking... This is a kids book! And yes, it is but I felt like adding it because this book is very special to me. It helped me learn to read and now im in an advanced reading group. I used to walk around reading this book till I could practically recite it in my sleep. I LOVE this book.
2nd-3rd grade reading level.B& W photos and well-rendered colored pencil drawings. Child can easily identify with late-bloomer and diamond-in-the-rough characteristics the horse exhibits early in the book. I found myself cheering for the colt during the race descriptions.
