I think it's clear by now that series titles aren't my thing. The rigid and short page counts often leads to a compressed story that fails to satisfy me. A Mother's Homecoming is not necessarily exempt from this as this would have been a five star book if there had more meat to the ending.

This is a unique book because, from the get-go, the reader is not predisposed to like the heroine. A recovering alcoholic, Pamela Jo abandoned her husband and daughter. She's returned to her hometown to make a

Pamela Jo doesn't want to return to her hometown but it’s a step she must take as part of her recovery with alcoholism. She has to face her past. She thought that meant visiting her estranged mother. She had no idea it would include the husband and child she had walked away from thirteen years ago.

Her ex-husband Nick isn't happy to hear that Pam is back in town. His first instinct is to protect their daughter from her. He wants Pam out of town as soon as possible, but the daughter finds out that

This is not your typical Harlequin American. I don't even think it's your "typical" Tanya Michaels book. Pamela Jo is a recovering alcoholic who removed herself from her husband and baby daughter because she was afraid she would end up just like her own less than stellar mother. Following the 12 steps means she has to come and make peace with her past, but when she gets there her mother's already passed away. Add to the mix her preteen daughter who's desperate to meet the mother she never knew a ...more
Surprisingly good story but the ending was a bit quick
This is a really good book. Heroine has come back to her hometown to try to make amends, to sort out her life, never suspecting it might be lurking, waiting to smack her upside the head. The story deals with alcoholism and recovery and preteen kids and all sorts of lovely angst. I liked it a lot.
Not just your run of the mill returning ex-makeup story, but also one that tackles a serious issue (alcoholism). Cute, quick read with issues coming mainly from one side in the relationship and a ending that I didn't particular like (HEA, but didn't seem final).

It took me a long time to get into this story. I didn't really relate to the heroine or her troubles. And I thought the hero forgave her to quickly and easily after a crying jag.
