Please note: I read in July 2011 from a copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

My Synopsis: A fast-paced novella, “Wild Child” explores when happens when Briana – the wild child of the title – and her best friend Kyle discover a mysterious spring of glowing green water in an underwater cavern. While it heals Bri from wounds received in an accident, and makes her feel wonderful, its effects are also short-term and she must return or her wounds begin to reform and she feels w

This is a story about 19-year-old Kyle and his best friend Briana. One day while they are out on his father’s boat, Briana convinces Kyle to go for a swim, but disaster strikes.
A speed boat whizzes straight towards Briana, and she disappears from sight.

Kyle knows that the boat must have hit Briana, but he has no idea what he should do, so he goes back to the boat.
Not long after, Briana reappears at the side of the boat – as she’s fine! She has howe

A boy takes his Dad's boat without permission to go out on a lake with the friend he's not meant to be with. While out on the water there's an accident and Wild Child deals with the aftermath of that accident, and with what might have been.

My big complaint with this book is that it's too short! Also, the ending left me wanting to turn the (virtual) page and look for more, what happens next? How does Kyle feel after what he did? Does he go back?

Will there be a sequel?

To call this book fast-paced would be an understatement. Every chapter has a new twist, a new fear, and a new problem. It's got the feeling of an old pulp novel--lots of intrigue and action-oriented characters. It's a fast, fun read that I barely put down.

If I wished anything for it, it would be a few thousand more words, but that's a minor quibble brought on by my enjoyment of the work and my interest in the characters. There's a sequel coming out in just over two weeks, and I will be eagerly a

When I started reading this I was expecting a novel, but instead I was presented with a perfectly formed short story. Taking me just over 2 hours to read this book sucked me into the murky depths of the lake with Kyle and Brianne (referred to in the book as Brie) and only came up gasping for air once I had finished. I had read reviews that it was gripping and fast paced but I didn't really understand what this meant until I began reading. The YA themes of teenage defiance of parental rules and a ...more

WILD CHILD was a fast-paced read. I finished the book in one night - not because it was easy or simple, but because it was fast-paced and exciting. If you like mystery and drama, you'll like this story. If anything, I would have liked a bit of back story for Brianna and Kyle - I felt like I was missing out on some good stuff. However, it's not needed, I just wanted it, the story stands on its own without any back story at all. Brianna is injured by a boat and Kyle thinks she's dead but she reapp ...more

Although it wasn't the kind of book I would normally seek out I had heard good things about it. It tells the story of a couple of teenagers who discover a substance with incredible properties. I won't go into any further detail as it will spoil the read, but suffice it to say the government want their share, theough one of the teenagers isn't sure they want it for the right reasons.

Very well written and had me turning the pages. In fact, I read the whole thing in a few short hours.

A pleasure cruise on his father's boat turns into a disaster for Kyle when his friend Brie is hit by a powerboat and disappears under the lake. Underwater and mortally injured she discovers a secret cave with a mysterious pool full of magical green water with miraculous properties.

This is a book that I got free on my kindle a while ago and being a short read I thought it was time to give it a go. This is my second Mike Wells book having previously read 'Lust, Money & Murder Book One'. There
Mike Wells did a great job of packing so much action into such a quick read. Brie and Kyle were great main characters and my only complaint is that I wanted to know more. I will definitely read any sequels written for this book. If you like total twists when it comes to endings and you have a couple of hours to kill, this is the book for you. Trust me, once you start reading, you won't want to put it down until you see how it ends.

Review from my blog: http://christitheteenlibrarian.blogsp...

This was a very quick read, and a very fun, engaging story. Kyle is our narrator and it's quite obvious from the beginning that his feelings for Briana are not simply platonic. It's also obvious to us that he will never expose his non-platonic feelings unless he's certain Briana feels the same way. And does she? We never really know.

A day of swimming and boating goes from idyllic to horrific after Briana is involved in a terrible accid

The only reason I've given Wild Child a 3.5 is length.

I was captivated by the story, interested in the characters' lives and sincerely looking forward hearing more about the "wonder drug." The book ended too quickly for me. Many topics and issues could have been explored at greater length and I was sort of disappointed they weren't.

Kyle and Briana were enjoying a pleasant day on the lake when the latter decides to add a little excitement to the afternoon. Having a reputation for pushing the limits, Briana pressures Kyle to partake in a half mile swim towards a series of underwater caves. Wild Briana Fox and level-headed Kyle Dunlap were close friends who love to hang around in Kyle's boat, until one day, an accident occurred that led Briana to discover a mysterious 'power drug' in a cave. With government agents trailing on their heels, Kyle must decide how far he would go to protect his friend.

And that, dear readers, is Wild Child by Mike Wells.

Wild Child is a fast paced novella by author Mike Wells. Honestly I found this book to be a great, rough read with lots of potential, which is why I give it 3.4/5-stars.

The story is about Kyle Dunlap (Jr.) and his best friend, Briana Fox, who, while swimming in the lake in their town, meets with a horrible accident. Gravely injured, Briana manages to fight her way to a mysterious spring hidden deep under the lake that washes away all her wounds and leaves her in a euphoric high—but the cure is f

One of my first blog posts was about how Twitter made me buy a Kindle. It was all about the people I’d met on Twitter and wanting to download and read their books. Well, this was one of the books that made me write that post.

The author, Mike Wells, was one of the first people to follow me on twitter and he sent me a link to his book. It was weeks later when I finally bought my Kindle and I accessed Mike’s website and downloaded Wild Child. You can also download the book on Amazon US and Amazon U
Wow, this book was really unique and intriguing.

Kyle and Brie are nineteen years old. They had met in tenth grade and now are in college. Brie is kind of crazy and always likes to push the envelope. Kyle’s dad is not really fond of her, he thinks she is a bad influence on Kyle. They are not technically together, but they are more than friends.

One day while out on the lake in Kyle’s dad’s boat, Brie decides it would be a good idea to take a swim over to the cliffs. Kyle does not think it is a gre

Kyle's father may be skeptical of his son's long-time friendship with Briana Fox, but steadier, more down-to-earth Kyle is enchanted by Briana's impulsive and often reckless personality. So when Briana's wild streak leads her to swim across the boating zone of a local lake-- ultimately into the path of a spinning boat propeller-- Kyle desperately searches for her, all the while fearing the worst. But far from being grievously wounded, Briana soon resurfaces from the depths of an underwater cave, ...more

A quick but gripping read!

What was meant to be a nice relaxing day out at the lake for Kyle and Briana soon turns into the stuff of nightmares. After Briana is left for dead after a terrible accident out she comes across a hidden cave with water so magical it heals her injuries. But the water takes a stronger hold on Briana, she needs to drink and bath in the magical pool often to keep her injuries from returning.
The pool soon becomes a thing of interest after Kyles crazy father tests the water

My sister recommended this book to me. She's been following the author on Twitter and his tweets made her feel encouraged to give his books a try. She suggested I'd try his books too, and this one just so happened to be free so I downloaded it for my ereader.

Like more readers of this book have stated, I was slightly more attracted to the story of how this book wouldn't die, rather than the actual book. Don't get me wrong; it's a fast-paced novella and an easy and enjoyable read. You get into thi

I can’t say that I’m a fan of novellas that leave the reader hanging right in the middle of the action, forcing them to buy the next installment in order to get the whole series. I’d much rather have a complete novel and pay one price for it, but even so, I did enjoy this novella. Wells has written a very intriguing story about a water substance that repairs all ills, and Briana Fox needs it to survive after being run over by a speedboat. But, without the water, all Briana’s wounds open again, p ...more

What I adored most about this book is the love and sacrifice in it. The storyline was really good to get into. Both characters, even though uniquely different completed each other. Kyle is set out to be different. He doesn't want to be like his dad, but yet he does try to please him. Kyle is a such a sweet guy. He is just that type that won't over due what he has. He is happy with the way things are and will not do anything different to change that.

Now, Briana is definitely a wild child. She is
So I got a copy of this book recently from the author himself, and I can honestly say that after reading the wild story about what it took to get this book published...I wanted to read it even more! I love that this book is such a good read that Wells is totally "sticking it to the man" by it being such a success & so popular.

Okay, so the main characters Brie & Kyle are great. The title and cover art definitely depict the "wild child" that Brie is...throughout the entire book I experienc
Wild Child was a surprisingly short read- it took me about 45 minutes to finish it. It tells the story of two friends/almost lovers, Kyle and Brianna. One day while swimming in a local lake, Brianna gets run over by a boat. She should be dead, but instead she’s even more energetic and strong than she was before. The boat had sliced Brie open, giving her a mortal wound that most certainly would have killed her… if she hadn’t found a cave with glowing green water in it. This glowing green water re ...more

Wild Child is a short, fantasy story set in America about Kyle and Briana, who discover magical green water in a cave under the cliffs where they are swimming. When government agents become aware of the abnormal water, they make it clear to Kyle that they'll stop at nothing to gain access to it, but as Briana's life hangs in the balance, Kyle is put in an impossible situation.

My only criticisms are that it took me a while to figure out how old Kyle and Briana were. At the beginning, Briana acted

Mike Wells has written a fast-paced story of Brianna Fox, a “Wild Child” and adventure seeker. When she is out swimming on the lake with her best friend (and almost boyfriend), Kyle, she is involved in a horrible boating accident. Reason is, Brianna found her way into an underwater cave that holds a lagoon filled with an unexplained substance that has amazing effe ...more

“Maybe you’re right,” Kyle said. While Kyle drove, he was deep in thought, trying to grapple with the future. Briana’s future. So, the green water had saved her again today. But what about tomorrow? And the next day? And the next? What was she going to do, just keep coming back to the lake and swimming down to the bottom for her green-water fix, like some sort of aquatic vampire? And what about school? She was supposed to leave for State in another week. It was a three-hour drive away. What was she going to do then?” 3 likes
