I can't believe this is on the list !! No one actually chooses to read this book. But it is very useful ! Now I actually like footnotes (now that Microsoft has made footnoting easier!)

I got this book from the library but it's full of so much information that I bought a used copy today from Barnes and Noble. This is a must read for any research paper that requires the MLA style. It's broken down into numbered sections and even includes how to cite electronic sources.

This book will always remain on my "currently-reading" shelf because you are always reading the MLA Handbook because you will never get everything right.

Shallow characters, contrived plot, no discernible theme.
Has a copy to sell/swap

no onerecommends it for: humanities professionals
The first two parts of this manual, that on scholarly publishing and that on legal issues of scholarly publishing, are actually readable. The rest is best used as a reference for professionals in the humanities governed by Modern Language Association conventions. This is not a general style guide. Hold on to your high school grammar and style texts for that or purchase the University of Chicago Manual which is more extensive in its coverage of rules and conventions.

ho ho!! what fun!!! if you've ever had to take an english class....i'm sure you hate/love this book too!!! i don't even know how this book gets sold anymore. citation changes so often, and there really does seem to be a real shift towards ama, or apa, or whatever the hell the citation that starts with an a is....

Chicago spoiled me I think. MLA has less than half the information Chicago does and it isn't as well organized. My boss and I spent half an hour trying to figure out a question about block quotes, and we ended up just following Chicago because MLA didn't tell us what to do. Lame.

UGH BLAH EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY did you have to make your contents SOOOOO SPECIFIC!!! I am having so much trouble writing my bibliography! Is the APA method any easier? I will see. But who cares, teachers decide anyways! ok I will stop complaining

I've never found a MLA formatting book that I've been happy with. This one lives up to the low standard I've grown to expect for MLA books. It seems every time I need to do a strange quotation, these books never really have an answer in an easily findable/existing manner.

Oh, MLA, how I miss you. I had learned all your silly rules and your unbelievable method of organization. I did not choose to forsake you for APA, I promise. I would take you back in an instant.
