This was the first "Bug Man" novel I've read and I'm sure glad I took the chance. The main character is Nick Polchack, an expert in insects (particularly as they relate to determining the time of death), is side-tracked from his duties as groom by a meeting of forensic pros who work on cold cases.

This was a fun book to read. I don't think you can go wrong with a good crime thriller/mystery. I believe that this is the sixth book in what is know as the "bug man series." First of all, I want to say that I love it when I get to review a book by an author from my state of North Carolina....this one happens to be about 20 minutes from me! How cool is that?! About 2/3 of the way through, I was thinking this book would get 3 stars. It was good, but wasn't anything special. Then there was a twist, and that twist made it all worth it. I like that Downs has gotten a little trickier with his writing and that things aren't nearly as predictable as they were in the first book(s).

The premise is tricky and multi-layered: a murder mystery, wedding planning, and cold feet. This is probably why I didn't expect much--because, really, how can your regular run-of-the-mill author pull all those odd threads together?
