The 150 Psalms contain some of the most inspiring lines in the Old Testament: Psalm 23 “The Lord is My Shepherd” and Psalm 121 “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills”. Yet few know them as a set, and this recording, in Alex Jennings’ clear performance, allows us to consider them as a whole. They are not all uplifting and comfortable. Many involve darker sentiments of rev

Two-stars for the book of Psalms? What blasphemy! Well, no, actually I LOVE the Psalms. The Psalms are poetry. They are beautiful. They are meant to be read slowly, savored, medidated on. I love the Psalms.

This two-star review is for this specific translation of the book of Psalms, which is called "Common English Bible Psalms" . Goodreads combines all the versions of the bible Psalms under one heading, with all the reviews listed together. If this was the King James version Psalms I was reviewi...more
Having read the Bible some time ago I just got around to reading the Psalms (in the Biblia Gdanska translation).
The Psalms are beautiful, show love for God and love received from God.
It also shows people back then knew the earth was round :-)
This is a nice translation of the Psalms but do be aware there is only a brief-but illuminating-commentary from Ms. Norris at the beginning. This is not an in-depth commentary of the psalms as I first thought.

Probably my favorite book in the Bible. Beautifully written, especially in the Olde English of the King James Version.
well done. comfort, challenge, and saving grace. meeting myself (and others) going in and coming out.
I had hoped this would have commentary by Norris, but it only has an introduction.
A lovely edition of the Book of Psalms with a commentary/introduction by Kathleen Norris.

Answer me when I call to you,
O my righteous God.
Give me relief from my distress;
be merciful to me and hear my prayer.

How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame?
How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?
Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
the Lord will hear when I call to him.

In your anger do not sin;
When you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.

Offer the right sacrifices
and trust in the Lord.

Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?"
Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.
You have filled my heart with greater joy
than when their grain and new wine abound.
I will lie down and sleep in peace
for you alone, O Lord,
make me to dwell in safety.
