I actually wrote a review for my column. And if you want to read it, you can find it at

Suffice it to say, this is a really good book and a great story. McDonald is a wonderful story teller. Yes, there were some edit problems along the way, but the mechanical issues were incredibly minor. It's a good character study masquerading as a romance novel and the romance was pretty sexy stuff. Even when the characters have a tendency to get in their own way. They
On the surface I enjoyed this book minus a few details. However, as I got to thinking more about it the more irritated I got with it. First of all.... let me just start with saying no matter how many times the author stated that Alexa was a strong woman she never proved it.... she was a doormat. Second of all.... What self respecting 50 yr old woman chases around her ADULT daughter.... come on now just doesn't happen. Also... If Casey made the thought or comment one more time that he wanted to b ...more

This book is tough to rate, because it has so many unique characteristics for the contemporary romance with "steam" genre. It's hot. It's meaty, in that it has well-developed characters who don't play by anyone's rules but their own. The 2 main leads have their own issues and are strong, forceful people. They fight - a lot. They love - deeply. They struggle with age differences and life and finances and all the things that we "normal" folk do.

Alexa is a 50 year old former fashion model
I have to say I really enjoyed this book. I picked it up because it was a freebie and now definitely want to continue on with the series. I always love a good May/December romance, and this one certainly does not disappoint. Alexa Ranger was such a hot character, she even had a hot name. 50 never "read" so good! Casey was just the perfect match for her. He never backed down from a fight, and wasn't intimidated by her success. These two had some funny bickering back and forth that really had me l ...more
Decent plot idea, poor execution. Appears to be self-published and badly in need of an editor.

50 year old ex-model Alexa Ranger and 38 year old ex-Marine Casey Carter are in a relationship. Since these facts are mentioned over and over and over again in the book, you'd think that the age difference is the problem they need to overcome in their story on their way to true love. It's not, and it doesn't even make a difference in the book. The real obstacles seem to be 1) that Alexa's daughter was i

ehh so I finally decided to stop reading this book. I do have to say that the story was very enjoyable and I liked how it started out. but then the authors writing just stopped putting me in. I think I finally realized at about 40% of the book that it's boring and I should start reading something better. don't get me wrong, I loved the bitchy successful Alexa and ex-military Casey but I couldn't stand that there was really no good conflict in the book and it was just kind of on an off situation. ...more
I LOVE it when a free eBook is good & this one is. Of course I think that since I am married to a man 11 years my junior this subject really hit home with me. Yippee!
So I had a picture in my mind of what a cougar was, not just the actual animal cougar, but the women who are now referred to as cougars. I saw an older woman, not sure how old but older than your usual bar crowd I guess, who was looking for a younger man. And by looking, I mean actively seeking someone to date who is significantly younger, I guess I saw someone who was a predator like the animal, wearing tight clothes to lure in some young meat. That sounds terrible, but that is what always came ...more
Romancing the Book
This was a very lighthearted but often times steamy romance that unexpectedly reeled me in from the beginning. This book had depth at times but at other times seemed shallow because of the almost erotica type read and the amount of time spent in the bedroom. It had laughter, some tears, hot romance but also their love that shone through and became a love story that enveloped two lonely people who never expected to find love again. Alexa, age 50, had only loved one other man before finally admit ...more
I chose this book because I love stories with a military or former military character and I was also intrigued with the older woman/younger man dynamic while also liking the idea that they are both of a seasoned age.

The story itself was told from multiple points of view and revolved around the attraction and romance of Alexa Ranger, a fifty year old divorced, former model and now wealthy businesswoman and Casey Carter, disabled Marine vet and widower.

Alexa has become a hard woman and a cynic wh
I got this free on Amazon about a year ago but it's only now I came around to reading it.

I gave this a 5-star rating cause I found it light and interesting. I loved the characters, the crazy friends and family connections, how determined Casey was to win Alexa over and convince her he's serious about her.

It's amazing how the author wrote of age being just a number cause Casey and Alexa are very well matched. They complement each other and find the other's faults endearing. Alexa is an alpha fe
This story had potential. First of all it's not what you think. Alexa(aka the cougar) isn't your typical cougar. She isn't prowling for younger guys. The younger guy is 38 years old(that doesn't sound that young to me). Really 38 years old he's a man. On top of that he is a disable veteran that walks with a cane. Doesn't sound appealing well why not? It seems more likely than not that is what is coming home from the war situations. Anyway the reason it only got 3 stars is because of all the sill ...more
I was looking for a light comedy read and was surprised too find a great read. This was a lot more than a romance book, it was well developed with very real characters. I was hooked from page one and could not put it down. Filled with healthy laughter, pity, tears, sex and happiness. Casey Carter retired from the Marines due to a hip injury falls for Alexa Ranger model/business woman twelve years his senior. This story goes deeper than sex or dating with real feelings and true problems of love, ...more
Gosh this was a bad book. It was free but man I didn't like that I wasted my time on it. Seeing the cover and the title I thought I was picking up a quick sexy romance book to read ... this is definitely not that. This book is as boring as boy meets girl and decides to pursue her. There was no action, suspense, tension, ... nothing. The sex in the book was overwritten huffing and puffing. The writing wasn't good, the editing was bad and the formatting sucked. Since the "cougar" in the book is 50 ...more
I am addicted to this series! Each time I finish one of the books, I have to start the next one! The characters are extremely well created and you are easily drawn to them and feel like you know them. Donna McDonald is an excellent writer and I cannot fault her work. I'm now on Book 4 of the series and it just gets better and better! Sydney is by far my favourite character so far!

If you've only read this one and have enjoyed it, just wait until you get onto the 2nd, 3rd and 4th books - I can gua
In its favor, I really did like Alexa and appreciated the ways in which she started to grow and sort out some of her own lingering problems. As a book about Alexa and Jenna, this had some good meat to it. As well, I give the book points for handling Casey's struggles with his bum hip without cloying or (mostly) disappearing the issue. The writing itself is solid and unobtrusive if rather more focused on the relationships than the sex... and that last is only a problem because the book keeps tryi ...more

Stars: Overall 3 Narration 4 Story 3

A chance to switch it up with romance that features women who are not in their early 20's and in need of growth time. It can be wearing, the focus on youth, but Donna McDonald gives us a glimpse into a world that presents heroines who are not in the first bloom of youth - and after all, isn't that a bit overrated?

Starting a bit slowly and dragging a touch, the story doesn't gain in emotional impact or action until the latter half, and from th

I tried to read it, but I'm giving up. Coolreader says I'm 69% into it. I don't like either character. There is good potential, but they don't make sense. Every time I think something is going in a good direction, the book develops more inconsistencies.

First, don't read it if you're looking for hot erotica or sexual tension. They talk. a lot. and talk some more. And the sexual tension is killed by words like all the hissing Alexa does and juvenile or dry writing.

I read the book with not knowing what to expect but I have to admit I was addicted I could not put it down. There were some parts of the books that had me thinking just get together and I was shouting at my kindle.

Dating a Cougar is pure Chick Lit. Believe it or not, I read my share of Chick Lit (see my other reviews). However, I prefer good Chick Lit, which Dating a Cougar is not.

As I got several chapters into the book, I decided to keep reading because I actually liked Alexa and her friends. Casey, OTOH, is a sexist pig. Then I began to notice that there is an ample helping of cliché in this book. The dialogue is quite implausible. Casey spends way too much energy actually uttering the words “I want to

Passionate Romance

Casey, a widower and handsome marine veteran was watching an incredibly beautiful woman. who, though a few years older, was making a great impression on him. He was glad his cousin, Seth, urged him to join his party to meet his girlfriend's Jenna's mother, Alexia, the owner of a multi lingerie company. While intros were made, Casey experienced an electric sizzle when his hand touched Alexia's, and he knew she felt it, too.
Since then, Casey couldn't get Alexia off his mind. Det
I really liked the story but some parts seemed like they were dragged out. I loved Alexas sassy personality and how she said what she thought to everyone. Casey was a great match for her but it seemed his character would have done better without his insecurities. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the characters stories work out.
Ugggg not good. Annoying hero, who I think was supposed to be all Alpha, but came off more like a sexist jerk. There is a fine line before the hero crosses in to A$$hat category and this fellow got there fast, page 10 or so. I wanted to like this book being an older woman younger man story, but it just, well it just wasn’t good. Sorry…

I didn't think I was going to enjoy this book nearly as much as I did. The writing was clean, very few grammar errors or typos, the characters were very likable and all in all a fun read. My big disappointment was in the bedroom. When the author wrote about everything else, it appeared clearly in my mind, very realistic and believable. But when she got to the love scenes, which were building expectations from the beginning of the story, they were very anti-climactic and utterly disappointing. I ...more

What a fantastic romance! No the H/h aren't typical young and stupid, they actually have some age and experience behind them. Yes, people do have sex after fifty. Gasp! I loved her approach to the conflicts and think this author will do very well building a readership.
On to book 2.

3.5 stars.

People seemed to either like this or hate it. I enjoyed it, but then I've been a cougar (dated a man 15 years younger.) I wish like hell it had been properly formatted. No paragraph indents made it difficult to follow sometimes.

I thought this was chick lit for the more mature women. It wasn't. It was porn for women. Nothing wrong with it; but I found it immensely boring. That's why it has been such a gap since I last read a book, I struggled to finish this one. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with sex, but I rather feel it than read about it. I mean how many different ways can you describe an act? *Yawn*
If someone is interested in erotica for the middle-aged women, go ahead. I am not gonna touch her books

Yawn yawn I haven't skim read so much for ages! Boring story, crap sex scenes.

Oh and I forgot to mention the bit where he wants to lay there All night you know doing nothing....pure trosh
