What a moving, emotional book! I have to say it is the most I have ever cried reading a book, yet at the end I had a wonderful, euphoric feeling. What a friendship between the main characters Seth and Kaden, very deep, platonic love almost godly. What a lifestyle, heavy bsdm is definitely not appealing. I could open my mind to read about it, but it was sort of a turn off- not romantic. There was plenty of intimacy though and the love in the relationship of Seth, Kaden, and Leah was so earth shat...more

Ok, I'm gonna edit this now over calmed down. 3.5....I'm a little disappointed if I'm honest. I really thought I was going to love this one.

Kaden has cancer and is dying, he is trying to convince his best friend Seth to 'take over' his role as husband/dom for his wife Leah. Kaden and Leah both love Seth and although Seth is uncomfortable with BDSM he pushes himself out of his comfort zones for them as he wants to fulfill Kaden's wishes, he has always loved Leah so he is also constantly battling...more

I can't even begin to explain how bewildered I am with this book. This is one of the most amazing stories I have ever read. It brought a smile to my face and tears in my eyes....many times. I have never cried so hard in my life while reading a book. We knew all along what was going to happen, but you can never truly prepare for it. I kept putting the book down because I knew it was coming....and I wasn't ready for it. But who is ever ready for something...more

OMG OMG love love love this book..... Will be adding it to my collection so I can re-read in the future :)

More then just a BDSM and Erotic book.... This book show us how far a husband will go to protect his wife ( even after death) and how what a TRUE friend will do for you even tho they may not want to or understand it.

Book that will have you laughing out load, crying buckets, and give you goose bumps :)

A MUST READ!!!!

This was a very touching, emotional book about friendship, trust, and love. Forever and beyond unconditional love. Love between a man and woman, men and woman, and two men whose friendship has spanned a lifetime.

Leah has had a troubled past and is a self abuser. She is the love of Kaden’s life, and in his desperation to help her he recognizes that if he can control her world and her pain, that this will provide the structure and release that she needs in order to heal and lead a “normal life”....more

Wow. I feel emotionally shellshocked after reading this. This is definitely one of those books that is going to stay with me. Forever.
I sobbed. Not just like a lot of tears, like 100%, full-fledged weeping. Many times. .... But I also laughed.
This book is beautiful. I don't know how else to describe it. It has also totally rearranged my definition of 'kink'.
But also, and very importantly, the point of the book was not the kink. It was the emotional journey that the characters go though. The se...more

I've just finished this book and I'm clutching my chest.

This was such an emotional read. I cried many times through it and it really did touch me deep.

I'm not a real fan of a lot of BDSM books to be honest but this book is so much more than that.

In this book the relationship between Seth, Leah and Kaden is explored and it is done so well that you really feel the deep love and emotion these three go through.

They share a deep bond and knowing throughout the book that Kaden was dying had me readin...more

I finished this book yesterday and spent the entire day trying to come to terms with my feelings about it. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but I was unable to think past the tragic parts and actually say what is it that I liked/didn't like in the book. Things are clearer now, but forgive me if I don't manage to explain myself completely.

Seth and Kaden have been best friends their entire lives. So when Kaden asks for a favor, Seth immediately accepts, until he actually hears what Kaden i...more

Honestly, is very difficult to write something about this book. For start, I was unable to stop crying in some parts of it. It's such a sad story, such a powerful love, that will do everything to prevail, even if it is through another heart, another soul... It's about friendship that will never end... It's about three soul mates, that are meant to be together, forever...

It also gave me a new perspective about a D/s relationship: the tenderness, the caring, the education, are not rather seen in...more

Okay, I need to stop reading this because it is making me feel mad and I need a break. Not sure if I will be able to pick it back up but I'm not completely sure if I will abandon it altogether.

Review for the first 20% of the book.

My thoughts after what I have read are pretty much WTF?
Drill Sergeant Kaden has just found out that he is going to die and so he asks his best friend,Seth to take care of his wife,Leah after he is gone. He asks Seth to come move into their home so that he can be of co...more

I thought I would cry more, but that's a good thing. Sometimes I read emotional books that make me cry, but it's because they are really playing all the right cards, and I feel quite silly, because I recognize I am being played, but I can't help it (sort of like when I watch Titanic, it doesn't matter that I'm resisting the tears, they always come in the end). There were a lot of emotional moments in the book, but although the book was dealing with a loss, there wasn't despair or hopelessness.

Final thoughts: After reading a few more books since I finished The Reluctant Dom, I'm ready to give my final review on it. I wondered if I'd still feel the same way after some time had passed. The answer is YES. I LOVED it and this is why: it hit on several cylinders for me. It's sexy. Thought-provoking. Emotional. Different. And written well. I was engaged from the first to last page. What more could one ask for? Even though much of it was predictable, I couldn't wait to read what would happen...more

Fascinating journey. Heartbreaking and scary. Difficult and Beautiful. Just not for everyone!

Rating subject to change at any moment.
The book itself deserves 3 1/2 stars.
Yes it's very sad, but it manageable. It's also very creepy at times, and I have several issues with the "after instructions"... But... I am very glad I read it.

But the main issue: two sides to this coin!
I think the author makes her point about the relief, love, trust that can be gained for some willing adults through a prope...more

If I had to describe The Reluctant Dom using only two words, it would be these: UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

This is a story about Kaden, a man dying of cancer, and how far he goes to protect the two people in his life that he loves the most; his wife/sub Leah, who has a tortured, abusive past and his life-long best friend Seth, who is unaware of the (necessary) bdsm lifestyle of his friends.

Seth and Kaden have an undeniably strong bond, stronger than family. Actually, Kaden IS Seth's family. I love the...more

This is one of those books I read because there were so many rave reviews; but quite frankly, I thought it was highly over-rated. It was okay, but certainly nothing special. For a BDSM book, it was rather vanilla, and for a menage book, there wasn't much to it, either. It was supposed to be more than just the titillation factor, a look into a real life BDSM/Menage situation; but it never really delved deep into the issues of either. It was more a soap opera, and the whole 'fixing Leah's past sex...more

Everyone talks me how sad this story is. I had full warning and I thought I was doing okay when it hit me. I recovered and moved on and then again. I ended up not having to use tissues, but it wasn't easy.

This was another one about growth. When we first see Seth, he seemed sincere but it was kind of hard to understand how this foul-mouthed unsophisticated guy who seemed way in over his head was ever going to learn to fulfill the role that Kaden was asking him to. The way he matured from beginnin...more

I finished reading this book two weeks ago but I haven’t been able to put my thoughts together about it until now. I think I knew what I was in for when I started reading it but I was not expecting the intensity of sorrow that this book caused me. To say that it was an intense read would be an understatement of epic proportions.

This is the story about three friends, Kaden, his wife Leah, and their best friend Seth. We find out on the very first page that Kaden has cancer and only has a year or s...more

I have wanted to read this book for ages, my new Kindle let me do just that. There were a myriad of reasons I wanted to read it, it sounded interesting and, for both personal and professional reasons, it seemed a must read. I can see from the comments that it can be a polarising experience, for me it was a beautiful book. The story outline has been well covered by others, this is my spin.

Yes, it is about BDSM, yes, it is erotic in content, yes, it is about a woman who has suffered past abuse, y...more

What a book. I actually had to wait a few days after reading it because it was so emotional. Kaden and Seth are best friends and have been since they were kids. Kaden and Leah have been married for 20 years. Seth has gone thru 3 wives and finds himself at 40 going back to school and restarting his life. So when Kaden approaches Seth with a proposition to take over being his wife's Dom because he is dying Seth finds himself in a situation that he is not sure he can handle.

I had to wait a few hours after finishing this book before I could write this review. I have NEVER in my life cried while reading a book as much as I did during this novel. I really and truly wept.

The Reluctant Dom is a tricky book to categorize. Is it BDSM? Yes, but not the typical story you’ll read in this genre. The hero is truly a reluctant Dom. Being a master is not something he craves or has ever desired for himself. He falls into the lifestyle by accident as a way to help his wife cope wi...more

I just finished this book after two days. From the moment I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. This is a must read!
The where so many times where I laughed at this book because of how the book had two men that thought they were in control, but one little woman could bring them to their knees with one look from those big green eyes.
This story also had me crying my eyes out for most of it. Kaden broke my heart every time.
You have to read this book! Even you take out the BDSM element...more

"I love you, bro." "I love you too. Still not doing you." -Kaden and Seth

Ok, people, don't judge me lol. After reading Fifty I found out I had a passion for Erotica (you can all thank Christian Grey for that!). Anyway, I was just looking for more Erotica, not necessarily anything revolving around BDSM. This book was recommended to me by a friend on Goodreads, and I'm glad she did.

Let me start by saying, I haven't cried like that at a book since I read Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. The Reluctant D...more

I dont even know what to rate this. It was a dnf for me. Not because it wasnt good but because I dont understand it. I can't fathom how bdsm can "fix" someone with such major issues as what the heroine had. Then have her moving into a relationship with another man because her husband was dying and she *needs* bdsm to survive?? how do you even grieve?- I dont know, it was too hard. So I quit.

Did you ever feel that you cannot write a review because you cannot justify enough the reasons you liked the book??? If YES then you know how I feel right now!

I loved that book! I read about it in a post about BDSM literature and I thought "What the hell, I'll give it a try". The think that caught me at first was that the main theme of the book was BDSM as a lifestyle and not just an act of sex.

When Kaden realizes that he is going to die of cancer he invites his best friend Seth to share his uni...more

I loved this book, even with the emotional heartbreak at the end and, it was well worth the read. The level of unconditional and unconventional love within this story is inspiring.

..5++++++ I LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!!! .

For the last few hours I have been trying to fine coherent words to express how I feel. My emotions are raw and all over the place right now that I cannot stop sobbing as I write this review. This is one of the most amazing stories I have ever read. This story is not only about BDSM. But about friendship, love, passion, loss and most importantly unconditional love. This book....where to I even begin? This is one of the more beautiful books I have read. It explains a lifestyle that most of us do not understand, and it does it in such a beautiful way. The fact that one of the characters in the book did not live this lifestyle is a great way for the book to explain it all in a way we can all understand. I get why they lived this way, I get how much love was between the original partners, and in the end I get why the third party became involved with the origin...more

I don't think I've cried this hard reading a book since Tuesdays with Morrie. Although I don't think I'll be passing this one onto my mom :)
For me Leah was just an instrument for telling the story between 2 best friends and there love for each other and the extent they'll go to for the other. Her need for a new Dom after her husband dies is what drives the story and Kaden to ask Seth to step in for him.
I feel sorry for guys sometimes that even though they love their best friend they can't really...more

I absolutely ADORED this story. This was a first time author for me and she blew me away. I cried like a slobbering fool and that was even before Kade died. And no, that is NOT a spoiler...it's in the blurb for the book. Kade is dying. And still knowing this, I cried so damn hard, I had to take a break...several times...to continue to read the raw emotions that are spilled on the pages. After finishing this book, I was an emotional puddle of goo.
This story involved the atypical relationship...a...more
