Re-read December 10-11, 2012 - just re-read this book, and I don't know what the hell I was thinking!! Probably a three star book for me this time. The conflict was annoying and there wasn't enough action, too much talk!

------------------------------

January 2012: I think this is officially my favorite Julia Quinn book! I LOVED this book so much. I could not stop laughing throughout.

These two characters, Henry and Dunford, will definitely go down in my all-time favorite couple category for sure....more

Disini karakter hero nya agak beda nih, Dunford bukan seorang Lord karna keturunan, meskipun dia keturunan bangsawan kaya raya, tapi dia baru mendapatkan gelarnya karna warisan yang tak terduga.

Belle clapped her hands together. How delightful! Dunford had just come into an unexpected inheritance. She rather hoped it was something good. One of her friends had just unwillingly inherited thirty-seven cats.

This novel started out as the perfect lazy night in. It was thoroughly entertaining and Julia Quinn has once again managed to include a few subtle barbs at her own profession of romance novel writing.

“How about this. La, sir, but you should not call me sweetheart.”
“It’s a start, but if

haaaaaa..... Akhirnya aku menyelesaikannya semalem hehehe :D

After being underwhelmed by Quinn's Brighter than the Sun this book was such a pleasant surprise. I do love a good historical romance!

Dunford, a happy bachelor inherits a title and an estate unexpectedly from a distant cousin. When he arrives, he finds that the estate being overseen by a "distant poor relation." Henrietta is an odd, charming woman who runs the estate like a man, wearing pants and working hard.

Henrietta hates Dunsford on principal. She fears he will usurp her after all her hard w...more

This was the third in a series focusing on William Dunford- a strong character in other two novels "Splendid" and "Dancing at Midnight." The heroine is Henrietta Barrett, "Henry" a charming character whose been living in the country managing a farm. William becomes her guardian, friend and lover. Sweet story but Henry was TOO Insecure- didn't like that. Also, everything was too perfect that the mistress mistake seemed too obvious as a way to cause tension. Most of the story, however, was fun and...more

Review taken from my Blog October 2010:

Contrary to the belief of my mate, I positively do not spend all day reading, well not all day every day!

But I did manage to read this yesterday ... in my defence purely because it was only 391 of quite large print, and I am after all an inordinately quick reader, especially if I an engaged with the characters.

The story of William Dunford, referred to by all who know him as simply Dunford, who has newly inherited the title of Lord Stannage, and Miss Henriet...more

This book had it all perfect, until the last few chapters of course which led to only 3 stars from me. The characters were interesting, both Dunford and Henry react in accordance to the outline expect after the-so-called-villain f the story shows up with the address of Dunford's mistress. It is very unlike for fearless girl like Henry to go behind Dunford's back to find out the truth when she can just question him directly. The other thing is about the word minx that's Henry's nickname according...more

This was the 2nd Julia Quinn novel (and the 3rd Historical Romance novel) i read. I thought this book was good at the beginning because I loved how Henry tried so hard to make Dunford leave her place and how Dunford knew what Henry had planned for him but still join the game.I also loved that they finally fell in love with each other (a playboy falling in love with a tomboy is something i would love to read) but then everything got boring. The plot became soooo... cliche and suddenly Henry lost...more

I freaking loved this book!!

It made me giggle on a really bad day, I remember that. It stuck.

There were parts that did fall through a little, so I guess I can't be too disappointed with the ratings. I still love it.

Okay, lets summarize.

Its about a girl, that's kind of been lost all her life, but is a little too bossy, perhaps to cover up her losses? Anyways, she's a dear and I really took to her.

She seems like one of those refreshing characters, that speaks her mind, and does what she thinks and...more

Finally we get to see Dunford's HEA moment and it was a good one. He fell hard and fast and I really enjoyed his love, Henry, she was fun and unique. I loved the parts with Belle and Emma and the spouses. Dunford proved to have a lot of interesting notions about Henry and grew very jealous and possessive...

The misunderstanding that takes place could have been figured out with a conversation which is why this is only a 3 star book and not a 4. It was interesting but also a tad annoying, to see b...more

I enjoyed many facets of this book, but I can't say that I enjoyed the book as a whole. The quirky, funny, witty, falling-in-love parts were almost overshadowed by TBM pain & angst. And the back-and-forth inner dialogs that both Dunstan and Henry (Henrietta) have with themselves became endlessly maddening.

Dunstan and Henry are perfect for one another. And perhaps discovering that so early on in the story is what made the rest of it seem to drag. Because, after all, Henry is a little miss fro...more

Hmm, so you’d think that the hero being Dunford and all, I’d pick this as the favorite in the trilogy. That really didn’t hold true for me. Although I loved this book and the characters, Splendidremains my favorite. But this one is still a close second. Maybe it was because this is the last in the trilogy. I hate reading final books. They always make me sad. That’s not the point! In truth, I thought this was a lovely read, and I’m glad I took the time to open it.

this was a really entertaining book that had a great pace and lots of humor. i had read this book first before i had invested in the rest of the series and it works as a stand alone novel but fit smoothly also into the series were we develop a clearer understanding of the chracters and the world in which they live.
i really connected with the female lead Henrietta Barrett she is an intelligent independent young woman that bring a breath of fresh air to a world that sometimes stifels women. julia...more

Such a romantic story!

Henrietta, cewek tomboi yg polos. Sosok yg disandingkan dengan Dunford.

Tipikal sih, dari karakter dan alur. Tapi, Julia Quinn menerjemahkan emosi-emosi karakternya begitu detail. So deserve lah dapat tiga bi...more

After Splendid n Minx was very much eager for Dunford's story but i was a little disappointed by the ending otherwise the story was good, the humourous scenes were damn funny and loved Henry very much and when she is being given how to be a proper lady lessons those were damn funny scenes

2nd Julia Quinn in 2 days. I'm in trouble. This time love between an unlikely pair: a naive tomboy from the country, more comfortable constructing a pig pen than wearing a dress, and a disillusioned bachelor from London. He inherits the title to the estate she has run for the last years. After falling for her guileless ways he learns she is also his ward. Trying to respect her reputation and honor his responsibility as her guardian, he sets out to introduce her to London society and wed her off...more

Yeah. I read a romance book. I needed something that was kind of popcorn-y, because I've been reading so much stuff that was serious business, or just really deep and heavy (like the prophet), or law-school-related. I wanted something fun, and Julia Quinn is the only romance writer I've ever read, and I like her well enough.

This book was okay. Just kind of okay. Not one of her best. But okay. I did like the fact that it was set in the country and in London - I thought the contrast was fun.

I liked this much, much more than the first book!

Dunford was, well, a charming character. I've wanted to read about him from the moment I encountered him in Emma and Alex's tale. Henry was not a typical heroine and I just enjoyed the way her relationship with Dunford developed, especially during the first few chapters. Their banter was quick and easy and natural, and I loved that they didn't immediately fall for each other.

Perhaps the only thing that irked me a bit was how Henry acted in the la...more

Definitely another enjoyable read by Julia Quinn but probably will not be a memorable read. If I read the blurb again years later, I might not remember the story's plot.

That said, it had more twists and turns in the plot than I was used to in Quinn's books which kept me stuck to the book for the whole day although how the whole misunderstanding stemming from the issue about the mistress turned into such a whole fiasco which almost ruined the two main protagonists lives forever was a bit drastic...more

This started out very funny. I loved the wit and sparkle and just plain humorous fun. The sexual intimacy was not graphic but still there were a couple scenes. You could sense things were not going to go smoothly since there were so many pages left and things were looking so tied together. Poor Dunford, poor poor guy. He tries to do the right thing but just keeps getting thwarted. I love how Henry keeps trying to sabotage Dunford at first and half the time it seems to backfire. It just shows a l...more

I would have given this book a solid 4.5 if it hadn't been for the last 60 pages or so. The last quarter of the books is worth MAYBE one star and has some pretty problematic elements. It's like the author wrote this sweet, wonderful love story and then went "Oh, I still have to write 50 more pages! How do I fuck this relationship up?". Then she had to toss in a few more pages to resolve the idiotic problem she created.
I really enjoy Julia Quinn overall, she creates engaging characters and her d...more

I was very excited to read Dunford's story in Minx, but it was sadly disappointing. It was funny as all of Julia's books are, and Dunford and all of the previous characters were as lovable as ever. I had high hopes for Henry (other than her name - it bothered me throughout the entire book) in the first few pages, but she grew to be extremely annoying very quickly. I can't stand characters, ESPECIALLY female characters with zero communication skills. I thought Henry was nothing but a twit and it...more

I love the characters in this series. It's Dunforth and Henry aka Henrietta. Again, I like the characters and humor and wit a lot. What bothered me are two things. One, that he had no clue she was his ward. He had arrived with the impression he had one and then all of a sudden upon arrival of the will, it really hits home and he starts to act all proper. The other problem I had was the final misunderstanding and how each character dealt with it. It really didn't seem to work for me. Otherwise, i...more

I completely ADORE this novel! The female protagonist is your earlier feminist, she's cute, daring and just so lovable! I immediately fell in love with our leading man, Dunford! I really enjoyed the chemistry between our two main characters. I got so wrapped up in this book I didn't want to put it down. I wanted a change from PNR and I am so glad I picked out this Historical Romance. It was sweet and has it's fair share of squeal worthy scenes. Quinn has woven characters with substance and the p...more

LOVED Henry and Dunford at the beginning, but the conflict at the end seemed too forced. Really, how hard would it have been to ask the question, rather than leaping to outlandish conclusions and being so melodramatic??? I feel like a lot of that came from Henry's inexperience with men, relationships, and the world outside of Cornwall. (view spoiler)[ I did appreciate the fact that, while there was epilogue fetus, it wasn't instantaneous (as it so often is). The little touch of realism, and a pe...more

You know how sometimes you watch a movie because you’re favorite actor is in it? That’s how I feel about this book. Dunford is my favorite Quinn hero - based on his role in all three books of the Splendid series and his cameo in How to Marry a Marquis - but Minx is not my favorite Quinn book. Don’t get me wrong, this book still earned my 5 star rating. It's quite entertaining and a recommended read especially for Quinn fans. I loved 90% of the book (see my dislike below for the other 10%)

Henry was a breath of fresh air. For me and for Dunford. The book didn't have that "danger" factor even though it was fun seeing William and Henry fall in love.

(view spoiler)[ I love that Emma and Alex named their baby after William. And I actually love the name Georgiana. (view spoiler)[

It's great to read sequels. I'm off to read the Bridgerton series! I'll miss Emma, Alex, Belle, John, Henry, and William, though.

Maybe it's time someone made more stories about them! *coughs* Julia Quinn (hide

#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don't read (or write) romance, and in 2001 she did so in grand style, competing on the the game show The Weakest Link and walking away with the $79,000 jackpot. She displayed a decided lack of knowledge about baseball, country music, and plush toys, but she is proud to say that she aced all things British an...more
