A few weeks ago, Patty Briggs and her husband Mike joined a chat room to discuss both Frost Burned and Patty’s previous books. The idea was to discuss each Mercy Thompson book separately, but that’s not how it went in the end. I was able to join them just once because the timing didn’t work for me, but the half hour I spent talking to Patty and her fans further convinced me that she is both a great author and a very pleasant person. When I shared with her my opinion that Fair Game, her...more

I am at a loss for words even though it has been two days since I've finished reading Frost Burned, but let me just say that it. was. worth. the. wait.

Patricia Briggs, you own me.

Review to come later.

Frost Burned is a fae-rly satisfying urban fantasy involving werewolves, a coyote-shifter, a few fae, some vampires, a witch or two, and humans. I very much enjoyed the bulk of it, but some parts were slow and Briggs left a few loose ends. Or did I miss something? Who is the informant? Is the money man the informant? (Why did Briggs drop the thread? It has to be someone in the know, an insider, like that treacherous wolf from Silver Borne ( my review ).

If you have already read the book, here a...more

Beyond typing “I loved it. I loved it. OMG I loved it.” over and over again, it is hard to write a coherent review. Why? Because I loved this book so much. It was an emotional and a fun experience reading it. I feel like I lived another life through the pages of this book!

Patricia Briggs’s talent seems to increase with every book tha...more

Coyote never loses, Coyote told me. Because I change the rules of the games my enemies play. What are the rules of your game?

Unlike many other sequels that have disappointed me over the last year or so, this book didn’t. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of the lose ends Patricia Briggs left in the plot. That being said, if you are a fan of the series you shouldn’t be disappointed by it. I also would like to say that I am happy I haven’t read the spoil...more

Spring 2013 for the next Mercedes Thompson? I really hope that date is wrong! I'm already waiting till Winter 2012 for the next Alpha and Omega, Fair Game. Now it's 2 years till more Mercy. There are no words to discribe my level of frustration!!!

Favorite Quote: He laughed again, and his body softened as much as it ever did – there just wasn’t much soft about Adam. “I love you,” he said.

“I know,” I told him seriously. “How could you help it?”

While the Mercy Thompson series is an absolute favorite of mine, the past couple of books have been a little on the slower side for me. But I am happy to say, Frost Burned brings back the fun action and world building I’ve come to expect from this series. And before I go any further, let me also say...more

The scene opened with Mercy accompanying Jesse for Black Friday midnight shopping -- on that note, I LOVE how Mercy addressed Jesse as "my stepdaughter". I have a weakness for family story in any of the urban fantasy series I follow --. But since this is Mercy we were talking about, trouble soon found her. She and Jesse were involved in a car bump (after Jesse shocked Mercy with a question about baby) -- which made them late to came back to the pack.

It turned out to be a bit of a good thing, be...more

I am not going to bother with a blurb for this one, I figure if you have gotten to book 7 of a series you are probably going to get it no matter what the blurb says! All you need to know is Mercy, Adam and the Pack face some troubles, which they then proceed to beat the crap out of.

Adam and Mercy are one of my favourite couples, they seem far more real than other couples I have read, they argue, they piss each other off and they have separate interests but they are still unmistakably in love. T...more

I was so happy that this book took place back at home especially after River Marked. I was really missing the pack, the fae and especially Stefan but of course, we don't get any time to enjoy it. Right at the start, Mercy and Jesse are involved in an accident. When Mercy is trying to call someone to pick them up, all she gets is voice mails and no answers. Turns out the pack has been taken...thank goodness for the pack bond!

This book is action packed and practically non-stop with a lot of varia...more

I skimmed through most of the book, skipped entire chapters, and read only the first 15% and last 5%. Since doing that alone took me over a month, I think it's safe to say I'm done with this series. I'll only reconsider reading the rest of these books if the focus shifts from the boring plot to Adam the characters.

Mercy the coyote is finally gaining some knowledge of her power and her ancestry. When Adam and her pack are taken, she steps up as Alpha and shows her skills to the haters, and doubters. Even the ones that believed in her are shocked at her abilities, including herself. Danger is coming from all sides it seems and she turns to her trusted friend, Stefen. Bran sends one of the most dangerous wolves The Moor Asil. Two scary and very dangerous allies. When one of the pack is killed things escalate...more

This is the seventh book in the Mercedes Thompson series and to be honest, I was a little hesitant to start it. Mainly because I didn't enjoy River Marked as much as the rest and I was scared that the series was starting to lose that special something that hooked me in book 1 and made me fall in love with this world that Patricia created. Thanfully my fears were unfounded and Patricia Briggs has proved to me why she deserves to be on my auto-buy author list.

Mercy is not your typical heroine, sh...more

4+ solid stars. While Mercy and Jesse are out shopping, they find that the entire pack has mysteriously disappeared. Mercy must try to find out what happened to her mate, Adam, and the rest of the pack; while keeping the bad guys from finding her and Jesse. Some renegade federal agents have captured Adam and the pack, and have plans to force Adam to assassinate a powerful senator who is anti-werewolf. This is a move which will bring down all of humanity against the newly 'outed' werewolves; who...more

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. It was much better than the previous book, River Marked, and most of the supporting characters were back in full force in this book.

While I enjoyed the action in this book, it seemed really disjointed with most of the book dealing with the disappearance of the werewolves and then switching to a completely different situation for the last part of the story. And there seemed like an awful lot of threads that were dropped in an effort to have more and more of th...more

This whole situation of Goodreads being purchased by Amazon, left me with practically no wish of reviewing books. Especially since i found out that Goodreads had already changed my profile settings allowing them to share my reviews with his other "partners".

VERY BADLY DONE!

Also changing the setting of my email, allowing everyone to see it,(WTH??) i found that to be a gross disrespect for your users privacy!

Having said that, i can only say that i loved this book. Great storyline, great characters...more

review copy from Hachette.

4.5 stars, rounded up.

Why I read it: I received a review copy from the publisher. I *may* have done a happy dance when I opened the package.

What it's about: (from Goodreads) Shapeshifter Mercy Thompson's life is calming down, at least enough that she can focus on mundane matters like Black Friday sales. But on her return, Mercy is unable to contact her mate, Alpha Adam Hauptman, or the other members of their pack. All she knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. With t...more

I'm excited for this book

And the book is here! So happy to be reading it.

Stayed up to finish this, too tired now to review it so will just say I loved this book a true page turner that I didn't want to put down.

Oh and Ben and Tad would rock together. even though they didn't interact in this I could see them having great chemistry together and would love to see that!

I planned to try and write a decent review but there are already so many I decided to just be lazy. And honestly by now you like...more

The name is book....Kick-Ass Book.

It all began six books ago...well, 10 if you count the Alpha and Omega books, and I do. I was just a todler in the reading world, a baby in the UF genre. Yes, I had been reading for months, and had been lucky enough to have come across some amazing PNR, High Fantasy and Contemporary books. But there was something missing.
I was so naive. So, so very naive, not knowing that the hole in my tummy wasn't hunger. Not for food. It was hunger NEED, DESPERATION, for some...more

Hopefully this goes back to the awesomeness of Bks 1-3, because the last book was a DNF and I'm beginning to find Mercy insufferable.

I have it!!! ... "The Game is Afoot." Patricia Briggs is incredible. She continues to write stories that grab her readers, make them laugh and cry and forget to breath. I do not like reviews that reveal story details, so I will only say very bad things happen, good things happen, and I have new fodder for my Ben and Asil fantasies. Frost Burned will end up on my 'read too many times to count' shelf. I will start now by reading it again...And if I did not have a stack of new releases from the lib...more

Say hello to my most disappointing read of 2013.

I am not being a drama queen. I am a huge, and I mean HUGE, Mercy Thompson fan and I was expecting this book to be as awesome as the previous ones. Well, it wasn’t. Frost Burned single-handedly pissed on all my expectations and presented me with a snoozefest as compensation.

Well, you know what? I am not the kind of person who will bend over and take it just because I love an author or a series. My expectations are, and always will be, high from the...more

I do not think it was as good as the rest of the series, but it sure was better than River Marked. But then I was really disappointed in River marked.

Anyway, the book starts with a bang as all the wolves are missing. Why and who is behind it? Therefore I do think the book lacked a bit of Adam even if we got his POV too. But I wanted more Mercy and Adam time.

We did get Stefan and Ben, and I really like Ben more and more. Not much of Sam but then he has moved on and then I am just not interested a...more

I love Mercy Thompson. This book was another bestseller by Briggs and a nail biter to boot! There is plenty of action, lots of tension, and a story that threw in something I wouldn't have expected. I admit, Briggs was getting a little predictable, and in this book too you could see some things, but overall it was still great. Chalk another one up for Patricia Briggs fans!
