A HOOT, A HOLLER...AND A HOMICIDE

No doubt about it, local gossips had finally gotten something right: a maniac was loose in Maggody Arkansas (pop. 755). So Chief of Police Ariel "Arly" Hanks, a.k.a. the local girl who did not make good in New York City and came home to lick her wounds, is back in action. Someone sabotaged the grand opening of Jim Bob's Supersaver Buy 4 Les

I've read some of other's reviews on this book and they seemed to be mixed (which is with all books, some like them some don't) I very much enjoyed the 4th Ozarks Mystery, everyone in Maggody finally gets what's coming to them in terms of lying and flapping their gums. The Mayor is opening a Super Saver store in town which has the possibility of putting a lot of self employed residents out of business. When the Grand Opening happens, half the town gets food poisoning and Arly shuts the store dow ...more

Recommends it for: Cozy Mystery Fans
Another awesome cozy mystery from Joan Hess. The Arly Hanks series is one that makes you laugh from beginning to end. If you like deep- south humor with great characters, you'll love this series.

Not my cup of tea. Did not enjoy the books I have read in this series so far so am not going to read the rest. Too raunchy and boring story lines. I don't believe a town like this could exist.

Recommends it for: Anyone who likes quick and funny mysteries.
The first Maggody book I read. Borrowed if from my friend's mom. It was funny enough to make me read the rest of the series. Clever and not dumb like other quick read mysteries.

I know a lot of people love this series but it just wasn't doing it for me. I may try the next book at some point - maybe I wasn't in the right mood.

An early book in the series. Found this on my TBR shelf. Pleasant way to spend a day home sick wrapped up with a fun mystery.

Book #4 in the Maggody series takes Arly to the grocery store where we'd be wise to steer clear of the condiments aisle.

This was my first "fun" read of the year. I really enjoyed it. It was a nice cozy mystery and I liked the protagonist.

This series is hillarious- set in Arkansas and has every cliched southern character you can imagine.

Parts were really funny. Others were just too sad and humiliating. Not my favorite Maggody book.
