This was a very boring read. I don't know why I continued to read the trilogy after book one. The characters were ok at best, the writing style was repeititive and the story was simple.

it's about here that the Shannara series starts to get a bit repetitive

My favorite Shannara novel to date, particularly because I thoroughly enjoyed the character developments between Jair (or as Slanter prefers to call him, "Boy") and his companions, from the surly, soft-hearted gnome tracker to the mysterious and powerful Weapons Master, Garet Jax. While the similarities of these band of characters to their ancestors of previous novels is unmistakable, I find the familiarity to be refreshing rather than redundant, as the characters still have their own ...more

Man this series just keeps getting better and better! The wishsong would be so cool to have! And the book was very well written. I have read all of the Shannara series and out of all of them this book was the best written. If The Sword of Shannara did not have such a great plot, this would be his best book. Brin was a cool character. The ending was amazing and although I didn't like how Allanon died, it was perfect! It could not have been any better! I wish I could rate it with more than 5 stars...more

What I liked in this book is the author's description of the power of the wishsong as a double edged sword on which one side is for good and the other evil. It's quite appealing and maybe during those times novel.
Brooks' narrative here became sweep and I was glad I was never again burdened by his long narration of what this forest looks like or where this mountain is located and that...
Recommended for those who wants some action in their reading life.

It has actually been MANY years since I read the Shannara books. I read them back in the late 70s and early 80s. There were some pretty big gaps between the books being published so I think I started Sword at the age of 9 or 10 and Wishsong wasn't published until I was 15. I've never enjoyed Brook's novels as much since then but this trilogy will always be remembered fondly as an easy pull into the fantasy genre.

Light years ahead in character development, but I'm bored. All his characters are the same. It's as if he's writing the same story over and over, varying the names and places, but with the same personalities, each time defining them a little better until he'll reach the point of satisfaction. A much more entertaining read. Interesting to think about the good and bad within yourself, but still...

This is a good book, and in the version I had there were even pictures:) Action packed, and very interesting, this story book was very difficult to put down, but it was from my teachers library and I had to borrow it so I wouldn't get in trouble for reading it at school. The characters are intruiging(sp?)and the plot is exciting. I recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy.

I read all three of these books (haven't read the Prequel yet) -- and this one is most definitely my favorite. There are some really cool characters in The Wishsong of Shannara, Garret Jax the near-invincible weapons master, Slanter the trusty Gnome, and of course our protagonists Jair and Brin Ohmsford.

It's a great series, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

This book really kept me enthralled. Not reading the first two in the trilogy was not really a problem, as it was a fairly self contained story.
I loved the way this story used the characters inner strengths and weaknesses, rather than just relying on the 'chosen one' storyline, although it was used, and also explored the darker side of things.

The third greatest book in the Shannara universe explores the origins of evil and the dark magic that spawns it. But it was hard for me because it was finally the end of my favorite character out of any book Allanon. That dude was just always there when the world started going to shit and the Shannara universe never really recovers from his loss.

This book is great and finishes out the trilogy great! A must read fantasy! One thing great about Terry Brooks is you dont have to read the books in order. You can get enough out of the first few cahpters to read any one book. Of coruse reading them in order can be fun and a longer great big tale of adventure, but either way it is a great book.

Another great book in this great series. Terry Brooks has the ability to weave an interesting and captivating plot while keeping the reader guessing and avoiding predictability. Fantasy books can easily fall into the category of the "same old same old" but he comes up with new and well-thought out ideas that capture the imagination.

I can remembered being so pumped when this book came out to complete the trilogy. It was so long that I just knew it was going to be good. It satisfied my urge for more Shannara and has a conclusion that seemed like a good place for a fourteen year-old to stop reading Terry Brooks. And that's what I did.

The best of all the Shannara books. If you are going to read one this is it. Not only is there both great male/ female stars, but it actually has a plot that isn't an almost exact copy of Lord of the Rings like the rest of the Shannara series. Plus the heroine is a gardener, can't get much better than that.

I don't really feel like individually reviewing all three books in the trilogy, but let me just say that a few years back, these were my favorite books ever. If you're into fantasy and you haven't read this set of books, you're really missing out.

This is a great author. If you are going to read them start with the first one - "First King of Shannara" because all the others follow the story line. My teenage granddaughter is hooked on them also. So far I have read 11 of his Shannara books.

This is my absolute favorite of the this trilogy. I think I have read it more times than any of the others.

The story between the two main characters is powerful, they are well developed and you really care about what happens to them.
