Curbside Splendor
The most beautiful book of classic, romantic poetry we have ever made.

"Charles Bane Jr.'s work does not only stand on the shoulders of giants, it shrinks them, makes them less daunting and more manageable, and translates their seemingly forgotten ideology into a modern tongue. He accomplishes an extraordinary task in balancing the past with the present, all the while communicating a sense of unison and heartfelt understanding between poet and reader. In a time where we have all seemed to lose si...more

Quote Alfred Corn " We aren't used , in this ravaged era, to poems of happiness, and yet that rarity is what Charles Bane Jr. Offers us. An offering it is , nor can we doubt that this poet conceives poetry as a sacramental endeavor, with human love as our nearest approach to the divine . He takes Buber's "I and thou" a step further to form what he calls a " monotheism of we".
I am clearly biased with Charles Bane Jr. I feel love and lust, his poetry reflects his literary riches . Paris , where I...more

The Chapbook, poems by Charles Bane Jr, is the complete opposite of Frankie's collection (reviewed above). Where Frankie's poems created clear images in my mind, Charles's poetry is much more abstract. Beauty, for him, appears to be in everything. At times it is overwhelming gorgeous. At others, it is so dense and complicated that I admit to not always understanding what he is trying to tel...more

This is amazing! Charles Banes Jr. takes words and pauses and succesfully uses them to transcend time and space. It is if he has channeled the masters, added his entire soul to the mix, and created masterpieces. I can not read these without feeling that the memories, the feelings are my own. I can not listen to him speaking these words without being transported! Wonderful!

The Chapbook by Charles Bane, Jr. is romantic in every sense of the word--filled with lush language and imagery. If you are looking to woo someone, consult this book. Some of my favorite poems are: "I Wander the Beach Sometimes" and "Isn't It Amusing?" and you will find some favorites here too.

A wonderful gem of a book . Words sing off the page and the illustrations add to their beauty .
