This was a sweet reunited lovers story (one of my favorite romance tropes). I especially liked that it was Lucas who wanted a permanent relationship. I don't think that happens often enough in novels. It seems like the men are always commitment shy, but that isn't realistic. This was refreshing in that respect.

Another fantastic visit to Shelter Bay. Lucas is a terrific character. He is, of course, an alpha male, being a former Navy SEAL. But he is also a basically nice, sensitive guy, though that came through learning some things the hard way. He knows he isn't going to have an easy time of getting back into Maddy's good graces. This is another wonderful edition to Ms. Ross's on going stories of Shelter Bay. The novels revolve around battle weary vets, trying to put there life back together at home. JoAnn Ross has created a great set of characters all centered around a military tragedy in Afghanistan where Marines, SEALs, Army Rangers, and other military personal, even though they lived through a hellish night, get the chance to find their happily ever after. JoAnn Ross didn't let me down with this book in the Shelter Bay Series. Decent book, the hero and heroine had a teenage romance but the hero made her think he cheated so that she would not give up her dream of Europe and culinary school, he became a SEAL and now the dream he had of working with his father is gone, since he's dead, he returns to the town he spent his summers in and when Maddy comes back he instantly knows he loves her and wants to marry her.

Started out good then just sort of dragged on. Author went into unnecessary detail. Could have skipped sections and still gotten the gist of the story.

This book was just okay. Although it had a great story, I found myself skimming most of the book because alot of unnecessary story was told. Okay, I get that Lucas was a former SEAL. But do you really have to bring it up constantly throughout the book? That was a little annoying. I found Madeline to be a likable heroine and admired her honesty with her feelings toward Lucas. I was lucky enough to win this book and couldn't wait to read it. After I started it I wish I held back and waited until I read the first two books in the series. Ross did such a good job of bring me into her world that I felt a little lost without reading from book one. Now saying that guess what I'm going to be getting! Barely started and I'm losing track of all the previous stories and the people involved in them. There is such a thing as too much series.

another book in ross's SHELTER BAY series, and another keeper. it brings to life the proof that we are in a really modern age, when the book's heroine is surprised by a sex video of her husband and his mistress on-line while she's doing a cooking demo! how she deals with her hurt and disappontment shows what a class act she is. and the hero, who had also disappointed her 10 years earlier, more than makes up for past mistakes. a charming story
Oh my stars! This is the best read for me of the series this far. I loved the shout out to SD and Kuchen ;) as a 3rd generation German Mennonite from Russia it is a favorite family treat. Not to mention I was reading book 2 & 3 during the worst ice and snow storm I can remember occurring in April here in eastern SD. It was a wonderful escape and the throw down ending was the bomb! Thank you JoAnn for one heck of a journey.
Ok, I'm a little confused... what the heck happened with the side story? It didn't. Belong in the story in the first place, but if you are going to unnecessarily add a storyline and some characters shouldn't you do your readers the courtesy of tying it up nicely? Or ag least ending it in a fashion where your reader knows it will be continued in the next book? I am a little annoyed.
I purchased this book after reading several of Ms. Ross's Six Sentence Sunday excerpts and each on of them grabbed me. However, the book didn't live up to the promise as much as I'd hoped. I enjoyed most of the dialog, and the story arc for Phoebe and Ethan, but there seemed to be a lot of run-on sentences and passive voice that slowed down the narrative.

On Lavender lane is a great addition to this wonderful series. This is Maddie and Lucas' story. Loved the story. The way Maddie and Lucas find their way back to each other. The development of the rest of the characters, especially Maddie's grandmother and the home for abused woman. Loved the book and I can't wait to start the final book in the series.
Another Shelter Bay novel with a returning veteran and a second chance with an old love. Maddie returns to Shelter Bay after a disasterous marriage to find her first love again. Can she forgive the man who broke her heart 10 years ago and find a future with him in the charming village of Shelter Bay?
Really enjoyed this story! Lucas and Maddy were both very likable characters and I was thrilled that the stress between them wasn't dragged on forever and did overshadow everything else. It was great checking in with all the other characters and I am looking forward to the next one!
Maybe 2 1/2 stars since I've always liked how Ross can bring the Oregon coast to life. Even so, it was a slog getting through this. There were some spots I enjoyed and I liked Lucas and Maddy but it felt cobbled together. Macomber and/or Carr does these multi-family books better, imo.
This book was just the kind of feel good romance I was looking for. The main character's role as a chef made for a very entertaining story. Would definitely recommend to others.
I wasn't totally blown away by the hero and heroine, but I did like revisiting old familiar people. There was definitely some fodder for future books buried in this one

Cute read. However Lucas pressuring Maddy to get married was bizarre. The author threw in too many other distractions and sometimes I wished she would have just focused on the romance.

Pretty predictable. Wasn't hard to fall asleep when reading it. Finally skipped ahead to last two chapters and they were exactly what I expected.
3.75 stars really. Again, no one gets shot, but there was a close call when a guy with a gun..... I am really enjoying this series though.
I am giving this a four because I enjoyed the cooking contest at the end. Lucas was a good character...not sure about Maddie.
