If Courageous the film is a launching pad for leading a Christ-centered family life, these matching husband-and-wife books are the instructional manuals for keeping that heavenly plan on course. The Resolution for Men was written by Stephen and Alex Kendrick, the brothers who wrote the movie's screenplay, and the guide for women was penned by public speaker and author Pris

I read this for a Bible study through my class at church. At first I was extremely skeptical as I anticipated the author would present antiquated notions as to how women are to behave and be 'lesser' than the men in their lives...all backed by scripture. I am happy to say I was proven wrong.

The Resolution for Women focuses on how women are to be present, committed, and focused in their lives today. How we are responsible for the welfare of our families and community not only because we are women...more

Like The Resolution for Men, I'm declaring this book an absolute must read for women and young women.

Today's culture has completely muddied the definitions of husband and wife, father and mother, which are completely contrary to the definitions the Bible lays out. As Christian moms and wives, we need to have these boundaries between the culture's definition and God's definition clearly set apart from one another--and choose to follow and implement and live out God's.

When we start making up our...more

After much tossing back and forth from 4 to 5 stars, I feel I have to give this book 5 stars. A few months ago, I happened to pick this book up as a promotional item. It looked interesting and the reference to "Courageous" drew me in. I had no idea what to expect, but the writing suited my current lifestyle.
After just finishing up the book, I am amazed and excited at how this book has caused me to re-evaluate the way I think about some things in my life. So much to the point that I think it wil...more

I was expecting this book to be a bit superficial because it was commissioned by a movie. I also had low expectations for the depth of the writing since it is covering so many different topics. I was wrong on both counts. This is excellent insightful material, great for a small group study (our community group women are reading this together for our summer book group). I've never read anything by Priscilla Shirer before, and her writing is fresh and thought-provoking. There is a lot of wisdom he...more

This book was such a huge amazing help. My husband has been reading the men's version so I challenged myself. I was happy to see I was doing good in a few and I was glad I read it with an open mind and heart. God helped me learn so many things and I felt wiser upon completion and I am looking forward to reading it again and to continue to grow and be the best wife, mother, daughter, and follower of Christ I can be. I am definitely going to look up some of the other works by this author!

I read this book as part of a bible study through my church. Shirer combined personal stories with biblical principles and scriptures that make it clear the bible is relevant for all of us today. Each resolution is broken into subchapters, with questions following each, for the reader to discover how that specific resolution has or can be lived out. GREAT discussion topics for a study group or book club. I intend to go back thru each resolution in my own to dig into each a bit deeper.

Recommends it for: Absolutely no one
I wanted to like this book. I really did. My then-fiance and I purchased the his and hers versions of these books as part of our premarital preparation. And while his book focused on things like integrity or strength of character, mine focused on stuff like interior design. No joke, at one point, the author talks about the process of decorating her "writing loft" (aside: TOTALLY relatable to the common public, right?) and she goes on and on about a tassel -- A TASSEL -- for several paragraphs, i...more

So far, I love this book. Priscilla Shirer teaches with a fresh voice from a solid biblical foundation. Very inspiring and simultaneously refreshing.

I did not have high hopes for this book. When people get hyped about a movie/book/author/etc. there seems to then follow more books that will always sell by the millions. I don't typically get on the bandwagon and this book is exactly the reason. I gave it a chance though.

While the author leaves many thought provoking comments (purity, integrity, time alone with God) through out the book, I wasn't left remembering much of anything. The intention to compile a book with all these topics crammed in...more

“Written in partnership with Sherwood Pictures’ upcoming film, COURAGEOUS, in The Resolution for Women, popular speaker and author Priscilla Shirer challenges all women to be intentional about embracing and thriving in God’s beautiful and eternal calling on their lives.

Like the men in the movie who resolve to fully accept their responsibilities before God, Shirer explains how today’s women can and should live out their own resolution. It is “a defining banner that hangs over your life, written i...more

A book to read, a book to reread and a book to recommend. Run out and get this book as soon as you can! Without a doubt, a book that will forever change your heart and mind.

What would be even more awesome is if a ladies church group read it together and kept each other accountable! What a blessing they would be to themselves, their families and their churches. Which would reach others no doubt!

I would like to journal everything I read here, but it would be better if you read the book yourself!...more

This book challenged me and called me to a higher standard in so many ways. I feel like it’s one of those books to read every few years. I also borrowed a copy but want to purchase my own to mark up… and mark up again in a few years.

Not what I thought it was going to be. The blurbs about the book led me to believe there would be humor mixed in; there was none. While the message was good, the delivery did not keep my attention.

I probably had entirely too high expectations of this book, since I loved the movie Courageous so much. This book was definitely good, but not quite as good as I had hoped. My favorite chapters were about embracing every season of our lives and being PRESENT, instead of just waiting for the next chapter; living with high standards of virtue and purity; loving our children; living with grace; and leaving a godly legacy. I'll admit that at some parts, I felt that the pages were burning my fingers...more

This book really gives you things to think about and suggestions about how to put them into practice as a Christian woman desiring to serve God, your husband, your kids -- or even if you're single -- the people you come into contact with every day. Each chapter deals with a particular issue we as women face or struggle with. Some of it for me served as a reminder, but some of it were new realizations for me. Each chapter ends with a Resolution (and intentional action or belief) you can make in y...more

This book is pointed and practical. It address the Christian woman, and helps reveal the truth of what if means to be Godly in your daily life. Some the vignettes are a bit cheesy, but the core of the material is well thought out and well-written.

I was expecting another goofy women's book with stereotypes and simplified concepts. I was pleasantly surprised when the first chapter really helped me evaluate some of my attitudes in life and almost every section was applicable to me and the women aro...more

I was suppose to do this book as a study with the ladies in my church this summer but for scheduling reasons I just didn't get it done but I did read it on my own. I had a friend tell me that is seemed to not fit her life stage or her walk with God. I can see how that can be it's very easy to read even for a non christan or a new believer and I think it would be helpful for them because it give just bits and beginings of some very simple life concepts in a believers life. The questions were a bi...more

This book was timely, sincere, sound, thought provoking, inspiring, but most of all effective. Let God use this book to help position your heart MORE RIGHTLY with HIM. Remember, He can use anyone and anything to bring you closer to Him; so DON'T allow the title of this book deceive you into thinking that this book "won't-bring-you-any-closer-to-God-because-it's-just-a-book-about-resolutions-anyway". Not so.

It's worth it. It'll help you to become a better you: a better wife, a better mother, a b...more

I love the brief chapters, which make the book easier to digest in small chunks of available time. Shirer writes in a friendly, casual tone, so even though her topics are sometimes heavy or challenging, she doesn't seem condescending. The journal prompts at the end are also engaging and thought-provoking--this isn't just a book to read and forget about, but one with words and ideas to integrate in daily life. "The Resolution for Women" is an inspiring and convicting read, and I suggest it for an...more

This is the kind of book I don't think you should rush through just to day you got it done. You should take it a chapter at a time and really work on each issue before going on to the next. I loved the Courageous movie and although you don't have to see the movie to understand this book, I found it helpful. The movie is more about the mans commitment, where this really digs more into what God expects from us women. Great author, I have done several of her Bible studies and this book is another o...more

I absolutely love this book. I was looking for a book for my best friend to read and came across this one. I was the one ended up reading and love it. It has helped me in so many ways and has helped me find peace on some hard things. It is a book I would read again

This book was revolutionary to my life. Even though her life and many of the examples she uses aren't very relate-able to many women, her heart and message are able to bridge the chasm.

Somehow I was the one person who didn’t know, starting into this book, that Priscilla Shirer is Tony Evans’ daughter. But when I found out, it really didn’t come as much of a surprise. It made sense, actually—like father, like daughter. A whole lot of thought-provoking stuff here. (And as much as I have an aversion to marking in books, if it hadn’t been a borrowed copy, I would have underlined the heck out of it. Might have to get my own now so I can do that—and go back and read the parts our gr...more

I have really enjoyed Priscilla Shirer Bible Studies in the past and have heard her speak. But, I'd never read a book that she'd written before. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I could almost hear her talking as I read the book. I felt like there were lots of little nuggets that were things I hadn't thought about in awhile or that had a bit different twist to it. It's good for me to reminded of things periodically that I tend to forget or push to the back burner. Great book to chew on!

Amazing book! Like the Bible itself, this is a great "life manual" for women both young & old. I read this book very slowly, careful to absorb & digest every single nugget of wisdom Pricilla Shirer presents in its pages. Her writing speaks to me and I am super thankful that this book is now a part of who I am. I urge you to read this and to share it ~ this book would make a great gift for the women in your lives.

This is a great book to go through with someone else. It has some great questions at the end of each chapter that can be very convicting. The right amount of reading for each topic for a weekly or biweekly meeting, although I could use a lot more direction on a couple of these topics. I hope to use this book as material to meet with other women in the future. Great biblical guidance on everyday as well as eternal.
Jennifer Gelert
Since this is a devotional book it took a very long while to finish. However, it was so worth the read. I learned things about my self I did not want to see before. As a woman, what my role means to my husband, my children and those in my life. Most importantly how God sees me. I know I have lots of changes to make, but if God is at the center of those changes they will be for my good.
Christy Willis
I think it is definitely for someone who is looking to make changes and come to the realization that all goals are pointless, unless directed towards Christ. I am past these point and am currently interested in reading more teaching books on how to strengthen and deepen my relationship.
