This is a book I like to have around to read once every week or two. As I am getting my start in my outlook and habits as a disciplinarian, I need to constantly remind myself to be positive, focus on all the good my children are doing, teach them to think, and respect them for their thoughts.
Something this book taught me that I really like is to compliment my children on their character, instead of just their actions. So if Melia shares with Sophie when it is difficult to, I say someth...more

Christlike parenting was not an easy read for me. Very technical. I learned a lot and found some aspects of Dr.Latham's philosophies on parenting to really think over. Positive reenforcement is a big one. I have found some adjustment in my parenting to make. I felt that this book would be great for parents who are preparing to raise a teenager or rebellious child. Maybe even for parents with grown up children and learning how to parent those adult children now outside their homes. Over all I hav...more

This book title is a bit intimidating and were it not for the beautiful B/W photo, I might never have picked it up. But happily I did, and now wish that Glenn Latham was still around on this planet to write more. He does have many other wonderful books to guid you in your parenting needs, which is good to know as so many of them out there are pure crap.

This is the parenting book that my heart has been longing for. I really needed someone to take the things I had been thinking about and put the pieces together for me. I think it would be a "good read" for parents of children and adults of all ages. I am anxious to read his other manuals for parenting as well. I am just sad that I found this too late to hear Dr Latham speak in person.

parents who want to change and have a happy family
If you are looking for an easy fix, or an original way to parent, this isn't it. This book gently lets you know that you need to change yourself first, and if you do this then change will come. The hard part is to not fall into the same patterns and traps, but to be consistent and always act calmly. I appreciated this approach and the use of biblical references.

I love this book. It has really helped me and I have just begun to apply it. There is so much wisdom and clear insight into the eternal nature of families and the perspective we as parents must take. Christ is our example. This book teaches us how to be a parent like Christ would be, and how he would have us be. Glen Lathum is great.

BEST parenting book I've ever read. Gives you a completely new perspective and outlook on parenting and helps you relate to your children in a Christ-like manner. Appropriate for all ages, but espcially helpful for parents of teens.

All parents should read this book. The concepts are simple. We must simply raise our children as Christ would. He gives you great ideas on how to do this. It is a book I will definitely read and reread. Glenn Latham totally gets the prize for a how-to for parents...Positive Parenting, by Latham is another awesome book!

A little slower read than I'm used to...there's just a lot to mentally digest in this book. It's packed full of counsel and teachings to improve parenting. I've learned a great deal from it, although not as much as from his first book, The Power of Positive Parenting (which is, by the way, a must read for any parent).

I love Dr. Latham. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this book and "The Power of Positive Parenting" before I had my first child, and it has made all the difference in how I (try to) raise them. I also love that mastering good parenting skills also improves relationships with others, not just the kids.

This book was fabulous. It's easy to get caught up in the day to day frustrations and forget the sacredness of being a mother and raising a child. This book reminded me of the enormous responsibility and influence I have on my children, and it humbled me. I would absolutely recommend this book for everyone!

I am only about halfway through this book but I really like the concept so far. It does give a lot of advice for raising teenagers, which I am not ready for (definitely not ready for yet), but most of it can be applied to all ages. It gives good advice for dealing with all of 'the noise' of raising children.

This is one of my all time favorite parenting books! It’s so great to read and as you read it you say YES! YES! YES this is how to do it! Then you hit a exasperating point in the day and you think "Man I didn't handle that like the book." Luckily for me tomorrow is a new day and I can try again.

This book will probably stay on my list for the next 25-50 years. I've heard I don't really need it until the babies are about 2 years old, but Rodney has been anxious to read it so I get to hear pieces from it regularly. I'm looking forward to reading it all the way through in the future.

This book is full of great insight and principles taken directly from the scriptures. I think it is directed more for parentsn of teenagers, but it has really helped me with some of the issues I am facing with younger children, especially at remaining calm when I feel like I want to explode!

Goodness, it's been a while but I do remember that it is THE ideal. So ideal, in fact that I was left feeling completely inadequate after attempting to put it into practice. But every day is a new opportunity. I love that it is doctrinal based and appreciated the quotes and scriptures used.

THis is a great book for families of all sizes and ages. Most of it was stuff I should have known from being raised in an LDS home, with Christ like parents, but I needed the reminders. Sometimes we take for granted the things right in front of us.

Beautifully written book on understanding ourselves as parents and the way to teach and parent in a Christlike manner, patiently and focused on the outcome, and not on all the extra "noise" that a child will put up and trip many parents with.

I am really enjoying this book. Very inspiring. The book gives a lot of examples using older children but I've found that I can still relate when thinking about how I would incorporate some of the principles with young children.

This is probably the very best parenting book I've ever read- it's concise, well written, practical and logical advice. With Christ as our example, we would all be better parents...
