A very interesting book that emphasizes four things:
1. Concentrating on the present (the best present)
2. Learning from the past
3. Planning for the future
4. Having a goal

Now I like Spencer Johnson. I wanna read "Who Moved my Cheese" now.

This was written by the same guy as "Who Moved My Cheese" and is an excellent short little motivational book for people who need a better perspective on life. You can easily read it in a few minutes and I'm very glad I found it because it has helped me see things differently. Dr. Johnson has a unique gift for teaching you things about life through parallels that anyone can understand. I think his work is brilliant and I would recommend it to anybody who doesn't mind self-help books. My husband w ...more

...more

A little Jen of a book. While there are many books focusing on living in the present, I really liked the simplicity of this, and how it was told through story. It helped me to remember what is most important in life. I too, am thankful for the gift of "The Present."

This could actually inspire rather amusing birthday cards:

(on front of card) Dear, I have a present for you.

(inside) It's right here, every moment of your life.
Breathe in (unless you're in China, have severe allergies, or are around smokers).
Enjoy (unless you have insomnia and really would prefer to go to sleep).
Take note of each second (unless you're taking a test, in which case checking your watch would only waste time).
See your world anew each moment (unless you're taking a memory or other

The story tells about a precious present that when found will make you forever happy! You can't get it by wishing, or looking anywhere, because you already have it. Once you realize what it is, you will be content... only you can give yourself the precious present.

This book taught me to make the most out of each moment and to learn that good or bad, the present is where you are and what matters most... go with it. You can't go back and relive or change the past. Future plans aren't always the sa

~ May mắn thay, tôi ...more

When I first started reading this book, I found it a little cheesy because it is written in such a simplistic way, and the story line is somewhat bland. However, it got better and it had some valid points. My favorite quote in this book is, "It is hard to let go of the past if you have not learned from the past. As soon as you learn and let go you improve the present."

The Precious Present was a lovely little book that reminds me to concentrate on living in the present & not to focus on the past or the future too much. I would recommend it to anyone who might need a gentle reminder not to dwell on the past or worry too much about the future.

Not a bad book... but... I am tired of a sub genre of wisdom literature that combines many of the central messages of classic wisdom concepts with a nod to the idea that if you implement them in your life a very western idea of success will follow. Until a person sees the process AS the goal they are not ready to truly be on that path. This "material spirituality" reminds me far to much of the "prosperity gospel" frequently found in large american churches. Isn't living well enough of a draw in ...more

This was my first Spencer Johnson read. I must say it is pragmatic for people who are so much worried about their past and future that they don't realize the importance of the gift which they possess right now - "The Present". Its a nice book which conveys its message in form of a simple and light story, which lets you think more while you read. As the book itself says that you can either learn a lot if you want to or nothing. So if you stop by after every few pages, relating to yourself, I am s ...more

This book is pretty lame. Sit on the toilet for fifteen minutes and you’ll finish it. Play with the title for ten seconds and you have the whole book figured out. It has 74 pgs (could have been written in seven?) and is published by Doubleday. I finished it over three years ago and remember feeling a beautiful blanket of blah wrap over me.
What is it about? The importance of the present moment! There you go. It is like Who moved my Cheese, yet for me, nothing like that book at all; that is funny

My friend Mark Zimmerman pointed his Facebook followers to an article about Jerry York, the hockey coach at Bowling Green University. I probably would have bypassed this particular article if it weren't for the fact that my friend Mark recommended it. So I read the article. It was inspiring. Coach York is on the verge of winning his 1000th game. He's the winningest coach in NCAA hockey history.

The article talks about a book that coach York has his freshman read to the team each year. It's cal

I just finished reading Spencer Johnson’s story, “the Present.” “The Present” is a fictional book that actually provided me with great life tips. “The Present” is a present-day story with an unknown location. I can assume that “the Present” takes place in an average American town. The protagonist of the story is a male named Billy. The antagonist of the story is Billy because he struggles to find the present. I read “the Present” because my dad gave me the book as a Christmas present. He told m ...more

Ideas on how to improve your life, and make your life more joyful and energetic, hence enjoying what you do, no matter what it is. In addition, it is presented in an easily understandable manner. I honestly cannot believe that people have given this book praise for the writing or the message. I had to read it for work or else I wouldn't have read it at all. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it.

The message is common sense - live in the moment and don't worry about the future (things you have no control over). Plan for things you can control and learn from your past. There - that's the book and better written than the author who I'm sure has made a lot of money from this piece of crap.
