Anna's method of creating couture-like fitted clothing mainly consists of measuring the wearer in every possible way, something over 40 different measurements, and then adjusting the pattern to fit those measurements. It is very helpful in identifying fitting problems and correcting them. She includes a lot of tips and sewing secrets that will really make "home-made" look "tailor made".
Only sewing book I know of that breaks the body measurements into four quadrants. This means the body is not treated as a cone. You get a better map of where the body dips in and out, which means the clothes you make fit better.
