Are you depressed, unhappy, unfulfilled? Have you ever wanted to be more than you are? Well, Dave Martin is here to tell you that your life is alright just the way it is. You don't need to lose thirty pounds, you don't need that new juicer and you sure don't need more "personal power", whatever the heck that is.

Self-deprecating humour is my favourite kind, the sort that pokes fun at your own foibles while refusing to be mean to other folks. It's why I loved the Erma Bombeck writers conference where all but one speaker used this sort of humour and were hilariously funny. Dave's book is like this, full of charmingly funny observations that are not mean, that share with the reader the absurdities of life and the importance of being able to laugh yourself off.

David Martin's book will have you howling with laughter, but at the same time it will make you re-think the ordinary in profound new ways. He manages to animate the daily minutia of life with verve, wit, and warmth. I thoroughly enjoyed these perceptive essays, and I look forward to more. Like all the best humour, we can easily find ourselves in the stories he relates, uncomfortable as we may be! Bravo David, for helping us laugh at ourselves, a highly underrated life skill.
