I love this book. Mine is a soft cover (Frederick A. Praeger, first published in 1961, second printing 1967.)

The introduction is important in any non-fiction work.

Quoting from the work, 'Impressionism was primarly the symbol of the liberation of a generation, of an emancipation from the rigidities of the salon. As far as style and technique are concerned, any attempt to find a unifying element between Manet and Pissarro would be doomed to failure.'

Each artist is of course his or her own persona
