I haven't read Housewright for awhile and enjoyed this book very much. A Minnesota author, MN setting with interesting characters which holds the interest of the reader to the end. The First Lady of MN comes to her high school friend, Rushmore "Mac" Mackenzie to help her decide who wrote an incriminating e-mail threatening the Governor's bid for Senate. Mac gets pulled in to the mystery that eventually solves the 20 yr old murder case of a young high school cheerleader in very small Victoria MN....more
This is the third book by this author that I have read. I can't figure out why he's not more popular. The title character was a high school senior who was murdered many years ago. The police have few clues and blame a vanished group of drifters. In modern times the wife of the governor (of Minnesota) consults her old high school boyfriend who's a detective. A story about an investigator doing a favor for an old girlfried by looking into a murder that occurred many years ago. It takes place in a small MN town where their only claim to fame was winning the state basketball title many years ago, at the same time the murder took place. It had never been solved.
Excellent; Continuing character: Rushmore McKenzie; at the request of Minnesota's First Lady, an old friend, Mac looks into threats related to the governor and a long unsolved murder of a cheerleader at the school the governor attended and starred at in basketball
Yet another McKenzie novel, set in Minnesota. With a character modeled on Governor Tim Pawlenty...except for the murder part, I hope. Plays fast and loose with geography, but is otherwise enjoyable.
I hope this is not an accurate description of small-town politics and small-town basketball teams. Though it might be. I also don't like that Mckenzie goes into the town seemingly trying to prove his worldliness and how cities are superior. He is also busy getting himself into a romantic dilemma - like Housewright needed to throw in an extra hook to keep people reading? Doesn't he believe in his writing, his characters? So that makes me mad since there was the option to keep the character as a m...more
This book was suspenseful. Very good read, and nicely written.
Another good McCkenzie book by Housewright.
