This collection of short stories is alternately funny and dark, sad and happy. There are a number of stories that are brilliant, and a number that are forgettable. Think of a collection like this as a record album. There are hits. There are fillers. Some of the writing is brilliant. In Top Boy Society, for example, Walsh’s comparison of 7-11 convenience stores in Taiwan as opposed to the states is witty and just plain good. Cadillac Fin Suitcase is a collection of 18 short stories written by an American author and photographer Michael Walsh about life in Taiwan and much more in the 90s. Some of the stories are very short and others not so, but the writing is descriptive where you can imagine the atmosphere and the everyday life of the Taiwanese.
