Staying true to the flow of writing of Sarah Addison Allen, it has a mix of magic with the person who was self appointed as 'the peach keeper', even though it was in a dark and bad way.
The author carefully threaded the balance of friendship and heavy issues with this one. What I mean heavy was - there were rape and homosexuality, not an...more
At the heart of the story we have acceptance - coming to terms with who you are - or who you think you are! Highly recommend.
My only niggling complaint: SPOILER AHEAD - STOP READING NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE PEACH KEEPER:

This book was lovely -- if it were a book cocktail (whatever that is) it would be one part mystery, one part love story, and couple parts self-discovery/coming to terms with one's roots. This mix would be shaken with a splash of southern culture and served with a sprig of magical realism. It, would of course, be downed on a hot summer's day, on the veranda and remind one strongly of bourbon. Sounds intoxicating, doesn't it?!

Sebastian came back a year ago and although he's been seeing Paxton,...more

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a bit to get into it, but only because I was distracted...once I got going I had a hard time putting it down.
It's not a perfect novel (I wasn't 100% wild about all the parts at the very end - it just wrapped up really quickly all of a sudden), but it's quite a good one. And it just made me feel good. That's all.
So five stars.
The author manages to create a charming if somewhat quirky town which made for a great setting for the book. The book centre’s around tw...more
A Letter from Author Sarah Addison Allen
She put a penny on her windowsill and cracked the window, because her grandmother once said that ghosts often forget they’re ghosts and will go after money, but if they get close enough to an open window, the night air will suck them out.
--Chapter Eight, The Peach Keeper
The original title of The Peach Keeper was God Eats Peaches, which I took from the old saying, “When God eats peaches, He saves the pit.” I had a cousin who would never
The Peach Keeper was a lovely read, quick and light, interesting and twisty. Like all of Sarah Addison Allen's books, The Peach Keeper is a story of small town North Carolina women and the magic in our mundane lives. Willa Jackson and Paxton Osgood are as different as two women can be. Willa is the quiet, working class girl, back in her hometown after the death of her father. Paxton is from a privilege...more
