For four of the best summers of his young life, Luke Harris was in love with Sydney Donovan, a wealthy seasonal visitor to Gansett Island. Then Sydney went off to college and never came back. She married another man and had two children while Luke remained on the island, working at McCarthy's Gansett Marina and wondering what had gone wrong between him and the only woman h ...more

Loved this one. My favorite on the series so far. What I liked the most was that we got a great deal of information about every other couple we have already read about and some new ones that started on this installment. The only bad thing I seriously can mention about this book is that it just left me DYING for more.

Marie, please, please tell me we are getting more books in this series. I definitely wanna read about Grant, Evan and Adam! I just need it. There are still so many amazing characters
It's sad how the further I get into this series, the more irritating the characters become to me. Don't get me wrong, I liked this latest installment of the McCarthys of Gansett Island series... but Luke and Sydney just lacked the special spark to me. Sure, they had plenty of scenes together and if you add in their past relationship that they had, it would seem like a good romance right? Well, I think my problem with Sydney was because of the fact that she left Luke heartbroken all those years a ...more

OK.... see what happens when you spend the better part of your day 'playing' on Goodreads and not end up reading until ungodly hours in the morning because you get 'into' the story again and can't put the book down. to follow :))

4.5 stars.

This is the third book in Marie Force's Gansett Island Series, and tells the story of Luke Harris and Sydney Donovan. I've read the first two books in this series, and I have to say that Marie Force is quickly becoming one of my go to authors.

When I need something that will take me away from reality for a while, Marie's stories always do the trick.

Where to start with this book. I loved the sweet connection between these two old lovers. Sydney's back story was heartbreaking. Seeing her
Eagerly anticipated: Luke and Syndney's story.

From Fool for Love we already know that Syd and Luke have quite a past. Luke was left heart-broken when Sydney never returned to the island and finally married someone else. After a terrible accident that took her husband and both her kids, Sydney has come back to Gansett to recuperate. After one year they grow closer again and it turns out that neither of them could forget the other. But the road to recovery is hard and old hurts, while in the past,
Poorly written story.

I enjoyed the follow-up with the other characters, that was nice. The author told me that Luke loved Sydney rather showed me how Luke loved Sydney. I did not believe their love affair, so I did not buy their HEA. Perhaps the devastating experience by the h is too serious to be dealt with in a story where the author is not willing to spend the time to do it right. in addition, since the author did not "show" me the relationship between the characters when they were young, I d
Another wonderful and sweet book in the angst free McCarthy's of Gansett Island series. The series is perfect for anyone wanting a realistic contemporary about normal people falling in love without having to fight off werewolves or drug cartels, nor do they have to worry about not fitting in with the aristocracy of the British ton (these would describe the last few books I read so Ready For Love was a perfect break). I really hope that Marie Force continues this series, which it appears from wha ...more

3.5 stars. Still a lovely read but I wasn't as sold on the heroine as in the previous books.

Full review:
A really fun and easy read! This book met my expectations. I adore the world the author has created in this series and I’m definitely a fan. My attachment is beyond the H/h, it has stretched to the community that keeps growing with each book. This is both a pro and a con because the more involved we get with the characters, the more the H/h has to share page time with these other characters. I
Listened to on audio, narrated by Holly Fielding.

The narration on this is really good. Perfectly paced for the emotional nature of this book.

I originally read this back in 2011 and having recently listened to them all on audio, I decided to leave this one until last because it was previously my favourite. I'm glad to say I loved it even more on audio.

Luke is just WOW. He appeals to me on so many levels. He's the strong silent type of hero, which doesn't always appeal to me, but Luke really did.

When I read what happened to Sydney Donovan's family at the end of Fool for Love, I could imagine how we were going to get a story out of something so tragic. Well, we got one and it was good!

A little more than a year ago, Sydney Donovan's life was turned upside down when a drunk driver hit her car killing her 2 kids and her husband. She was not only physically broken, but psychologically as well.

Little did Sydney know that Luke Harris, her old high school summer sweetheart, watched her as she
4.5 Stars. Love Marie Force - Have I said that a time or two or ten? She writes the best guys whether its contemporary romance or romantic suspense. Again have I said that more than several times? I want all of them. This is a sweet, very sexy, lovable series. Her characters are charming and their stories page turning waitng to get to their eventual HEA. I want to live on Gansett Island and I'm pretty sure that I even have a huge crush on Big Mac. Although I also want Mac..or Joe...or Luke. I'm ...more

Another sweet romance from the McCarthy family series by Marie Force. I loved reconnecting with all the characters/couples from the previous books, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series for the new characters that were introduced in this one. Marie Force writes sweet/romantic and sexy male leads and her stories are easy and quick reads. Nothing is drawn out and she is able to make you connect with many of the characters easily.
A Tasty Read Book Reviews
Great addition to the series. Luke and Sydney had a second chance at love and they overcame all the insecurities and issues that surfaced as the relationship tried to take flight. I really liked Luke as a hero, he was the quiet, simple guy who was hot hot in the bedroom!! Fun read, just can't wait for Grants story or Tiffany!!

Gansett Island is starting to feel a little small to me by this point! Didn't enjoy this story as well as the first two, yet I'm still interested in seeing what happens with all the couples and little families.
Better than the previous two. So far, I found all the couples a bit boring, but in this book we have several secondary stories and they make the story up.

Onto the next one!

I've really enjoyed this series so far. This story picks up where the last left off with Sydney and Luke. I'm a sucker for a series, and this one doesn't disappoint.

I received this as part of Good Reads First Reads

I was a little wary of starting this book having been previous book in this series which I haven't read. The characters already had lives and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to follow the story - but fear not - the author has written these so superbly that it didn't matter - I soon got the hang of every-one and what had happened to them

The story of Sydney can only be described as shocking. She left the island and had a life with her husband

After having read the second book in this series, I was quite happy to win the third one as well. Given the foreshadowing in the second book (although I didn't think it worked quite well), I was pretty eager to see how things would work out in this book.

I found it really easy to relate to the characters in this. They were likable, realistic characters and I felt that the issues Sydney in

Ready for Love was another good addition to The McCarthy’s of Gansett Island series by Marie Force. I really like the McCarthy family and the small town island life, but I must admit that I am starting to feel a little worn out by this series. I feel like the novels are getting more repetitive and more predictable. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed Ready for Love, and I am still looking forward to reading Falling for Love. I am just ke

The McCarthy's of Gansett Island series continues with Luke and Sydney. I didn't know it was possible to love the series even more than I already did. Sydney has been through so much and Luke is very gentle with her. I find it very inspiring that she allowed herself to heal and love again. With so many years apart, I love the chemistry between the two and it's so believable. The characters and relationships are so geniune that you'd think you could just travel to the east coast and run into thes ...more
I am REALLY liking this series. I didn't plan on reading them but got the first one free and now I am hooked on the series with the McCarthy boys and girl. This book was not about the one of the boys in the McCarthy family but about a partner in the Marina family business (Luke) whose childhood sweetheart lost her husband and 2 children to a car wreck and she is learning to cope by staying with her parents. Luke has always been in love with Sydney and they begin a new and find out they were both ...more

Ready for Love is book 3 in the fabulous The McCartht's of Gansett Island Series written by Marie Force. It not only tells the story of Luke and Sydney, but it catches you up on previous story lines as well as captures you interests on plots yet to come. Marie is a master at intricately weaving her storylines across an entire series and this book is no different. She captivates you from the start and does not let go.

Sydney Donovan has come back to the island to find what direction she needs to t

This is the first series I've managed to read three books on...I usually lose interest somewhere in the second book, either putting it down or not really wanting to read others. This book came dangerously close to making me lose interest. I felt too much time was spent catching up with the couples from the first two books, on a rekindled romance from 30 years prior, and setting the stage for the next McCarthy to have his story told. It was the latter that kept me from losing interest completely; ...more
The 3rd book of the series, Ready for Love was not my favorite, though I do like the series very much. I actually thought the main characters were very dull, although sweet and I just never got into them. Luckily the book had a lot more relationships going on, as well as, revisiting the lives of the characters from the previous 2 books. I was more interested in the whole Abby/Grant/Stephanie triangle which I believe is setting for the next book in the series.
This 3rd book's story line was good, kind of boring, & all over place. I felt sorry for Sydney. I really liked how Sydney stood up to her parents. I really enjoyed how Luke helped the McCarthys. I really enjoyed the updates on Maddie & Janey. I really liked how this story talked about Grant & Ned. I really liked the ending. If this story was about Sydney & Luke alone this story would have been boring to me.
The third book in the McCarthy's of Gansett Island series focused on the rekindled relationship between Luke and Syd. It was very sad to read about the trauma Syd faced after losing her husband and children in a car accident and how she wrestled with her guild after reconnecting with her old teenage boyfriend, Luke. Syd struck me as a much more grounded person despite all her emotional turmoil and I liked her quite a bit. Luke, once again, was so damned wonderful I wanted him for myself. I'm sta ...more
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as I enjoyed the first two. For me, it was just a tad too sappy in a few places and there was no mystery in it. You knew from the very beginning that Luke and Sydney would end up happy together and I think knowing that took some of the interest out if it.
It was still good though and I will continue to read the books in the series.
