I really haven't read many fantasy novels (I'm more of a science fiction and alternate history reader) so I really don't know how this novel holds up against other novels.
From what it was, however, I liked it.
The setting isn't "pure" fantasy: there are guns, steam tech, and psychic powers. The story is simple enough: a young man's lover and master are killed by a man searching for a magic sword, and the young man travels outside his village to get revenge. Although at first the book is a little
