I'm a huge NBC fan & I collect just about everything that is related to it that I can afford. When I discovered that there was a manga version of the movie, I was overjoyed & purchased it immediately. While I did enjoy the manga, I just didn't get the same rush from the book that I did with the movie. I can't quite put my finger on why (apart from the lack of music), since the book is a very faithful adaptation of the movie. Perhaps it's because the book is told more from Sally's POV than Jack's...more
I loved this poem soooo much!!!!! I had watched the movie and didn't know it was based off a poem by Tim Buton, until I looked at the bonus features of The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD. I like how the base of it is The Night Before Christmas poem. He changes the original poem to give it a scary twist with lines like : Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was sleeping not even a mouse. GENIUS!!!!! Another exceptional job Tim Burton! :D
Tim Burton is weird, and weird is good. This charming respite of possible Christmas Tales is just the thing with hot cider, a roaring fire and christmas lights blinking. Play Alvin and the Chipmunks do Christmas Carols and you might find your self in contrarian heaven.
Beautiful book/manga that I bought and read with my son who is obsessed with The Nightmare Before Christmas. We had a great time reading the manga, looking at each illustrated panel very carefully and then watched the movie to sing along to the songs.
I'd be suuuuuuuuuuuper careful with this one. I bought this for a preschooler of mine who loved Nightmare Before Christmas and could handle the creepy stuff, but I can imagine this going horribly awry with the wrong kid!
Jack Skellington is in charge of Halloweenland. He makes it the creepiest place around, but he decides that he wants to bring Christmas to Halloweenland. This book has good illustrations and is a good read for students.
Imaginative. Haunting. Quirky. Bittersweet. The writing (verse) is superb, witty, and bold. The art is simply wonderful. Any fan of the film will find this to be a perfect storytime reader. Fun!
My kids both love this book, and so do I. They got it for Christmas this year and it's wonderful. The art is great, the story is great, the rhymes are great. Tim Burton rocks. Highly recommended.
Jack Skellington is legendary. The quirky story that inspired the fantastic movie. Impossible to read and not hear the music of Danny Elfman in your mind. Well...at least in my mind.

Not gonna lie I adored this, I got it for my birthday from my best friend and only just got round to giving it more than a cursory glance. The drawing is very true to the film and the actual speech is close enough without being horiffically coppied (although I will admit I did keep thinking I'd read what was in the film when I wasn't, yeah I'm that much of a geek). I'm probably going to get one of the illustrations from this as a tattoo because they're so good & I've still not found a still from...more
Tonight it was the bedtime story, again. Love this book, despite the odd bit that doesn't fit the rhyming scheme and made up phrase that makes no sense to me 'like the storm of a thistle'?
i thought that this book was really good and i liked it alot... i thought that the movie was better but thats just me.!!!!
love everything about this book the combining of the 2 holdays was a different angle. all the characters were so loveable.
I DIDN'T REALIZE THE MOVIE WAS BASED OFF A POEM!...THE MOVIE IS FANTASTIC (WATCHED IT A GAZILLION TIMES WITH THE KIDOS)AND A LOT BETTER THAN THE POEM, ANYHOW, IT IS STILL GREAT!
I love "The Nightmare Before Christmas!" And this book truly tells the story.
Beautiful artwork; Tim Burton knows how to get a story across through pictures.

i learned that you cant change holidays just because you want to. you can be part of anything.9
I liked the illustrations but had expected more from the story as the movie was really good.
Not as much fun as the movie--not much tops "Keednap the Sandy Claws" for holiday fun, in my book--but good nonetheless.
A great book on one of my favorite movies.
A faithful re-working of Burton's masterpiece movie following Jack Skeleton, Sally and the other residents of Halloween Town as they atempt to make Christmas with not so pleasant consequences. The language and illustrations follow the film closely (don't think it could have been done any other way really) and the detail is superb. Basically if you like the film you'll like this book and if you love the film you'll love this book. A great way to lose yourself in Halloween Town if you haven't t...more
Jack Skellington is awesome!
Hilarious!

One of my all time favorite movies is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Unfortunately this is one of those rare cases where I feel the movie is much better than the book. For me the storyline in the book was choppy and did not flow well from one scene to another. I did not think the book in its Manga style was able to capture the essence of the story...or maybe I just missed the Oogie Boogie man singing.
I bought book for my son around Christmas time. He LOVES Nightmare Before Christmas, as do I. Was a bit disappointed how it veered from the movie. My son loved it(probably because of the illustraions)
I love this book and it's wonderful illustrations. A great story to boot.
tim burton's aesthetic just gets me. the art in this is so extraordinary.
I loved this book. I still love it. It's cute and I like the art.
