Originally in the Anthology - Suite 606

When a high-society party is crashed by a naked, knife-wielding, blood-covered man who "thinks" he might have killed someone, Eve Dallas must track down the crime, and the criminals. Everything points to Satanic ritual, but Eve doesn't believe in devil worship...

As some of you already know, I love Nora Roberts. But I seriously ADORE her J. D. Robb books about Eve Dallas. Although I prefer a novel to the short stories, I'm never disappointed either way. Some serious mojo is going on in this story as well as some possible future story-lines.

Eve Dallas is at a party with her husband Roarke, worrying about wearing high heels if something happens. For Eve that is always a concern, she's a cop 24/7. Sure enough, the party is interrupted when a bloody naked m...more

baru semangat ngereview roarke & eve nih.....

I actually read the Suite 606 version without reading the other stories, so I am going with the audio entry since it's a stand-alone. This short "in Death" deals with a murder and little else. It is fast-paced and leaves you spinning as Eve races to the solution to the murder and makes 13 arrests. There are a few brief moments with Roarke where they go head to head over some minor things but for the most part, Eve steams ahead, blasting everyone out of her way until she has a wrap. Peabody gets...more

Promises in Death, Kindred in Death, Ritual in Death, and Missing in Death by J.D. Robb - Two full-length novels and two novellas (I never read the other stories in those short story compilation books) and I only have the most recent book in the series and I'll be caught up at last. I really liked Kindred. It would probably make my top five in the series. I've definitely enjoyed the series. The characters are great, the sex is great , the humor is great. But I'm also glad I didn't invest in buyi...more

Lieutenant Eve Dallas's boring evening of socializing amongst the New York societal elite of 2060 becomes suddenly more interesting when a naked man covered in blood and carrying a knife crashes the party. In Suite 606 of The Palace Hotel, Eve discovers a woman who has been ritualistically murdered in a manner with Satanic overtones. The novella length case guest stars the wiccan priestess Isis who provides information to Eve before cleansing the area of the evil done therein. Eve's access to a...more

I actually listened to this audiobook the day I had my LASIK surgery. The narrator who reads these books, Susan Erickson, is very talented. I normally don't care for audiobooks but she does a fantastic job of making the books distinctive. My only issue was her Peabody voice, which she made slow and country. It made Peabody appear stupid, and I found it an insult to people from rural areas, as if they all speak slowly and country just because they're from a small area. The way she does that voice...more

I thought this one was scarier than normal.

I have enjoyed every other Eve Dallas novel that I've read, even the half-novels (I suppose we should call them 'novelettes'), so am very sad giving this ONE star. The problem is that I couldn't read it because my library only had electronic copies.

I'm still a novice Audiobook 'reader' (and yes, I still have issues over saying I've read a book when I've only listened to it - call me old-fashioned). I read The Greatest Show Off Earth on Audio, and that was fun. It was easy to listen to because it...more

I read this book in no less than an hour. Actually, forget read. I devoured this book.

The novella pans out with Eve in a party, screaming hell because of the shoes she was wearing. Then, out of the blue, a naked man covered in blood and bearing a long-bladed knife just happened to stagger in the party.

It was dark, brooding and just about perfect if it wasn't too short. I would have wanted the book to drag it all out as I think the plot was intense and gratifying. Oh well, I'm giving it a three...more

The best novella in the series to date. Eve is at her best when she's pissed off, and here the ritualistic killing of a young woman has her spitting fire. You know who ever did this is in for it when even Dr. Mira is so angry she's willing to bend a few rules! There were enough possibilities here for a full length novel, nonetheless, this quick read still packed a mighty punch.

I love J.D. Robb books, and this is no exception. The character of Eve, the fast thinking, and fearless cop, married to the handsome and very sexy Irish Roarke is hard to turn away from. Her books never bore me, and I have read them all. This was no exception.Plenty of plot, and character development. I never can wait for the next one. A very great read!

Did not like this one nearly as much as all the others. There just wasn't much to the story at all. It felt like it started and all the sudden the whole case was solved with no challenges whatsoever. I know it is supposed to be a short story, but this seemed much shorter (and less about the characters) than the other shorts from the series I've read.

A short story to tie in with the last one. Salvation in Death dealt with the Church (in this case Catholic) and Ritual in Death has a satanic "ritual" in it. It was nice to have another visit from Isis, I did like her in "Ceremony" and she fits in her very well.

Another fun, fast paced mystery with Eve and her wonderful cast of characters and Roarke of course!

This is not the first book in this series that touches on the occult; and much like the other one, I didn't care for it. It was a quick little story, and I was very glad there wasn't more to it, I don't think I would have been able to stand it.
Crystal
I know this was part of the anthology, and those are always short. But this one seemed shorter than even that somehow. The story was there, the mystery was there, so was the romance. I can't pin point what was missing if anything, it just didn't seem complete to me.

I really liked this one! It was short and horrifying, but interesting. I loved Isis when she was introduced and always enjoy watching Eve deal with Sensitives. Such a tragic and wasteful murder-it felt somewhat closer to real life.
Louisa
Great short story, and somewhere I read somewhere that wondered why Roarke couldn't get into the suite, well, why would he have the codes for that room on him? He was there for a party, that's why he had to break into the suite. Great book, creepy, and a lot of murderers, and yeah, great short story!

A quick futuristic delve into the world LT. Eve Dallas. She is a hard boiled detective for the police department, determined to right wrongs, find the truth, protect or avenge the innocent and be a loving wife to one of the richest, sexiest men in the world. Who says you can't have it all!
Kara
This is a much shorter version of the usual "in death" series books. Still good, but didn't have the usual build and was a quick solve to the "who dunnit".
Vicki
I've noticed that J.D. Robb's novellas aren't all that spectacular. But it's an Eve Dallas story, so I couldn't *not* like it.

This was a very quick listen on CD. I really enjoy that Susan Ericksen is reading the J.D.Robb series of books. She even catches Roarke's Irish inflection.

Cops really do see everything... A more realistic incorporation of Suite 606 then the other two short stories.

This novella took me a very short time to read, only 85 pages. It was well crafted and interesting.

I love this books, I still have not read one that I have not been satisfied with. Hard to put down.

Thought I skipped one of the novels, but it turns out it was just a short story.
Mary
This series is good. I read it when I need to escape.

Dallas stumbles upon a new case when a man wearing nothing but smears of blood walks carrying a knife into a party being attended by she and Roarke. The party is in one of the MVP suite of Roarke's hotel, The Plaza and the dead body from which all the blood came is on the floor of another suite right down the hall.

This story is a great ride and I love any of them that has Roarke as a major investigator. It has just the right about of mystery suspense mixed in with the thrill of a bit of paranorm...more
