*SPOILER WARNING* (As in if you thought you were in for a good read this will spoil it)
**Also SWEAR WARNING** (because I just can't get through this review without swearing. I need some release!)
I have had to take a break from my reading of Torment to get this off my chest.
I hated Fallen. Everything about it was incredibly one dimensional and at the end I felt like I still knew nothing, none of the big questions had been answered. Like I was reading blind-folded, was out of the loop and nothin...more

Dear Daniel Grigori,
Words can’t even begin to describe my feelings towards you, but I’m gonna have a go anyway. I feel like this is important. You need to know how people feel about you.

Dear Ms. Kate
I. Don't. Like. Fallen.
I don't like this series; i don't like the characters, the development of the story, the secret life of Lucinda Price, the archangels, mainly all the angels from your story, the Outcasts, the heavenly never-ending war between good and bad.
I just don't like yourpiece of shit story.
However, i do keep reading this series. Why? Because i have a need for badly written, made-by-brainless-authors YA-fiction and stupid non-feminists.

Worth dying for?
Well, one thing is for sure, this book, is not worth dying for. I know this sounds bad and like its going to be a hater review but, I actually find my situation amusing. Just stick around.
For starters, the story sounds great, a school of Nephilim, cool! It's gonna be like Howards, but instead of fighting Voldemort, you fight Outcast. Well, No. it's exactly the same as Sword & Cross, only with brighter colors and sexier...more

People who enjoy being tormented by books called Tormented
To hell with, "Never judge a book by its cover."
Do I really need to read this book to write a review about it?!
Goddamnit.
Does anyone else find it ironic that this one is called Torment?
LMAO.

I applause to the stunning cover, but I'm saddened to give this book a gracious 3 stars that it doesn't deserve. It took me forever to get through all the whining and disappointments with the characters. The whole premise of the story that had so much potential to offer was just "Torment" — yup, see the pun here.
The entire story just fell flat. What happened from book 1 to book 2? We continued on with the tragic romance of Luce a human and her fallen angel Daniel. The sweetest love in all of hi...more

I suppose it's a good sign that this sequel to Fallen didn't get a worse rating, but it didn't get a better one, either. The problem is that I really suspect that this would be one really great story if it were in *one* book not three. But publishers are now demanding trilogies, which means weaker individual books and tons of padding.

Luce has found herself stuck in a battle of good and evil. Things get so bad for her that the two waring sides must ban together to fight off an even bigger threat. Luce is sent to a school of nephilim to help hide her while the boys in her life attempt to defeat her enemies. Once again, Luce finds herself in a new school and meets new friends, but Luce is troubled. She's troubled by her past; she's troubled because everyone is keeping secrets from her; she's troubled because she and Daniel keep...more

No book has been more aptly named. I read this as a follow up to Fallen (which was a mighty let down itself) in hopes that it would somehow clear up some of the jagged and, at times, blatantly ignored plot points. It didn't. Instead, I was treated to nearly 500 pages of an insipid, seemingly bipolar angel who inexplicably loves a fickle, petulant, whiny girl-child who couldn't decipher the back of a cereal box with a room full of Mensa members helping her.

I went straight on to read this book the second I'd finished devouring Fallen. I did like it, because I love reading Lauren Kate's style of writing, I find it very comfortable, but without being poor writing. I enjoyed the setting, which she once again did a fantastic job at depicting. I was so, so disappointed to not be reunited with Cam in the way I had hoped, but... well I hope that's another story.... maybe in Passion? OH MY GOD! Luce is such a bitch!..Like really now.. I am not liking this book at all. This book is exactly what the name suggests. A TORMENT!
I didnt like the previous one either. Fallen was such a waste. The author very cleverly made sure she didnt reveal anyyyyy details of the plot in the 1st book forcing the reader to read the second book. Who would want those 300 pages to go waste? The best thing I can say about Torment is that its title suits it perfectly. The first three quarters of this book were absolute torment to get through, but the end did pave the way for a somewhat-interesting third book in the series.
As I was persevering through this thing, I realized that the main appeal Fallen held was the secret of what supernatural creature Daniel is. That took up most of the plot of that novel, but that was okay since it held my attention long enough. However, in Torment, y...more

Can i just pick this s my favourite book?OMG i loved it...You know i mma say this...Fallen By Kate to me was the beggining of The YA era of books. If Meyer started this, kate just made it bigger.I loved every part of it.and finally i began to like LUce.It seems she got over her lethargic, dull and damsell in distress side of her into smthing really brave and simpatheric.I loved it.FAvourite series ever....Cant wait for passion.BTW FAR BETTER THAN TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
I can't wait to see what Lauren Kate has written this time! The last book of hers, FALLEN, extremely good in my opinion but we're going to have to wait until september to find out how this book will turn out....but i can asure you, i'll be the one waiting at 6 o'clock for the bookstore to open so i can buy it.

It was good. By the end Luce had all the guys lusting over her *rolls eyes, always happens in books* which makes you wonder what she's got that we ain't.
Daniel was a more developed character in this one; I like him. I found him very real.
Luce got on my nerves, and I wanted to slap Arianne/Arianna (can't remember, don't care), because she is soooo annoying. She bosses people around and is extremely loud. I know people like this in real life and God do I want to strangle them to get them to shut...more

I enjoyed this book and thought it was a lot better than Fallen. This book seemed to be better written in parts - it is clear that Kate enjoys writing about the aesthetics of angels and nephilim as well as describing action. I though that this book was on the same level throughout - there weren't really any parts which made me excited to see what happened next, but overall, it was quite eventful. Shelby and Miles, as well as the teaching couple Francesca and Steven were newly introduced likeable...more
This one was better than the first, but there were still little things that really bugged me. Luce is just an impossible character. She drives me nuts! She's a drama queen and I swear she's always whining about every stupid little thing. I like Daniel and Cam (not Miles, but Miles is still an okay character, I just don't like him cause he's all over Luce and I like Daniel and Cam more :P). There were things that just never made sense to me what was going on. When they were glimpsing the announce...more
So the introduction (prologue) was pretty good. Daniel’s attitude was kinda eating at me; he seemed pathetic, worrying about Luce so much. Just chill, you know? And stop being such a domineering tyrant. So she needs his permission to go somewhere, do something? Oh uh uh. That is not about to fly. I understand that this guy is totally whipped but he needs to get. a. grip.
As for prima donna Lucinda. She needs a good slap in the face. I think this falls under the category of a writing error. How ma...more

Oh amazing! :) I really enjoyed in this book! And it's definitely better than first one! Thing that i like the most in this book is that you don't know all the facts..in other books mostly you know the facts and then while you read you yell at character don't do that you idiot! :D (or that's what i do) but here i don't know, i don't know what Luce is? Who is Daniel? He is angel, very important one but is he good or bad...And that's what i love in this book! :)
And i can't wait to read next! :D

The first half will make you want to

What to say about TORMENT. . . .
About halfway through the book, I almost gave up. The first half of it was absolutely dreadful, all information about Luce's life at Shoreline and "I miss Daniel" this and "I miss Daniel" that. It was blander than tofu (which I've never actually eaten before, but from what I've heard of it, it's pretty bland).
The second half picked up, though, when mild action and a few unsuspecting plot twists are thrown in. From there, I was...more

Whomever Luce is, she’s apparently important enough to both the angels and the demons that they declare a truce in order to protect her. Daniel and Cam arrange for her to be hidden at a special school on the California coast: a school which boasts both angels and demons as teachers, not to mention a group of Nephilim students. Each of the Nephilim possesses special talents; as Luce develops friendships among them, she discovers a talent of her own. She uses this talent to seek knowledge about he...more

Review on its way. actually, it's more of a 3.5 which I need to bump up to a 4. For now, I will say this was disappointing at the very least, I expected more character development for Luce; a sign of some impending maturity at least.
My source of discontentment came with the interaction between Daniel and Luce; primarily Luce's incredibly immature and selfish behavior. If she’s not smooching with him while floating blissfully in the beautiful star-kissed sky with him then she is argumentative and...more

I think that this was marginally better than the first, but not exactly what I'd call "good".
Parts of it was . . . alright, and I could almost see myself thinking: Hey, maybe this isn't so bad after all! And then there's the parts that literally make me want to chuck it across the room with frustration.
