While I was a bit hesitant to pick up Allyson Richards' Enlightened at first, it turned out to be a fabulously fun debut, one that is sure to have readers begging for more books about Alexis and the gang.

Alexis Randall has a one big problem: she has special talents (like super speed and super strength) that can cause major harm if not used correctly. To say the least, Alexis is the typical high school student, and because of that, she has turned to isolation and anger over the past for years, pr
Alexis Randall is a modern day superhero. Incredible speed and strength make her unlike any other teen girl. Living in constant fear of hurting a "Normal," Alexis spends her days alone. Her psychic mother is her best friend. The lack of control over her abilities has forced Alexis to uproot her and her mother's lives before and lends to her resolve to blend in. Only now, something has changed. Taylor, a new boy in town, seems determined to pull her out of her shell. Rather than avoiding him, Ale ...more
Review taken from my blog, The Haunting of Orchid Forsythia.

Enlightened is a really, and I mean really, quick read. After one hour of reading I was half-way through the book, which was nice because some of my most recent reads took a while to get going/into.

What made this such an interesting read for me was the superhuman power aspect, and that Alexis had to struggle to control her abilities. Although I'm a bit torn on how I feel about Alexi’s explosive personality and that when she would get a

I got this book from the author herself at the writers conference in Jacksonville. She was very pleasant and the way she talked about the story made me want to read. I bought the book there and she was so sweet to sign it for me. I was getting ready to go on a 16 hr car ride with my mother to a family reunion and this book helped me keep my sanity. It gave me hours of entertainment. It captivated my imagination and kept me wondering what would happen next. This was brilliant because it captured ...more
Allyson truly captures teen turmoil in a not-so-normal type of teen situation and it's absolutely mind boggling to think it was written by a 15-year-old! I can't wait to see the next book in the series. =)

Plain old Ally Richards by day, rising author Allyson Richards by night ;)

I started writing my first novel when I was 15. Now 17, I'm currently developing my new YA series in addition to a few side projects.
