Brett Battles, one of my favorite authors (for giving me the Jonathan Quinn series) now begins a new series based on the character of Logan Harper. Books like The Cleaner have made me an ardent follower of Battles's novels, however, I do not think this series is of the same caliber as compared to the Quinn series.

This doesn't mean they aren't an enjoyable read. They are. But having read Quinn and as a reader it is inevitable that comparisons are made. Harper is a car mechanic/Quinn a cleaner (of...more

I love wounded hero protagonists (perhaps that's too personal to reveal here?), and this one is very likeable. I cared about and rooted for this hero at every step. And caring about the characters is the most important factor in enjoying any book.

That said, I do find Brett Battle's works a little slow and wordy at times. This is my 3rd Battle book and while they were all very good, they were a bit short of being excellent.

That is, there's a lot of detailed scenes leading to the finale. Almost...more

I like Brett Battles, especially his Jonathan Quinn series. This book features Logan Harper and is your basic chase novel that for whatever reason winds up in Thailand with connections to Burma. Logan stumbles on some men about to kill a friend of his, and against his better judgment, he agrees to try to help locate the missing daughter of the man, a Burmese refugee. The rationale for her disappearance is metered out as the chase progresses.

How the information is dispensed irritated me. It's th...more

Thriller Pacing with Great Characters and Descriptions -

Logan Harper is the kind of guy who will jump in before he’s had his morning coffee to help when a friend is being beaten up. He will also give chase after the bad guys – even when it leads him from Cambria (one of those picturesque California coastal towns that one dreams about retiring to) to LA, Thailand and beyond. He seems to have inherited this trait from his 79-year old father who has a posse of retired military friends who refer to...more

Brett Battles has a new book out called LITTLE GIRL GONE. Directly self-published to e-book format. If you haven’t been following his Jonathan Quinn series about a “cleaner” in the espionage business, then you are missing a great thing. With that series, Battles turns a tired genre on its head and gives us an interesting and compelling character with a career that we have little seen in fiction—the guy who comes in after the fact.

Now, Battles has a new series character and is throwing his name i...more

I didn't know this author, but it was one of those dollar deals on Nook, so I took a chance.

So glad I did. This was a fast paced "travelogue" kinda of adventure/thriller (New York to L.A. to Burma, etc.). I kept "seeing" the action, and feel sure it's going to turn up as a big blockbuster movie at some point. It felt like a Bourne movie already.

The very basic premise (a kidnapping in exchange for oil drilling rights) is pretty far-fetched. But, just let your sense of disbelief go with that, and...more

I do enjoy reading a fast paced book and Little Girl Gone did not disappoint. I found it hard to put down. The character of Logan Harper was interesting and well developed. There was enough of his back-story without getting bogged down in it. I enjoyed his support group made up of his father and a collection of his father's friends. They manage to arrange things for Logan that make me wonder what their stories could be. Perhaps since this is the first Logan Harper novel I may get a chance in the...more

Had Logan Harper known just how non-routine his routine morning stop for coffee on the way to work was going to turn out he may well have stayed in bed. Surprised to find the shop still closed, Logan goes around to the back entrance and finds the owner, Tun “Tooney” Myat, beaten, on his knees, a gun to his head, one short trigger pull away from being murdered.

Logan, an ex-military man now working as a mechanic, uses his not entirely rusty skills to run the would be murderer off and calls his fat...more

Logan Harper is a man who takes on the problems of friends because he is asked. He is noble, quiet, a thinker, and gets the job done with a little help from his friends and WAMO, the Wise Ass Old Men group.

Despite dealing with some serious issues in his Life, Logan comes to the aid of a friend of his father, who fears his granddaughter has gone missing. What follows is a puzzle involving foreign governments, human rights, and big business.

Brett Battles has written a smart, international thrille...more

Auto mechanic and ex-soldier Logan Harper gets involved in the kidnapping of a Burmese girl when he rushes to the aid of the owner of a local coffee place.
Soon he travels from LA to Thailand, doing everything he can to free her, even if he has to face the nightmares that plague him, even if he has to put his life on the line and even if he has to kill for it.
The plot is action-packed, it includes car- and boatchases, unarmed combat and more.
Logan is a capable, but human hero. Nowhere near the su...more

“Little Girl Gone” by Brett Battles:

Logan Harper lives in Cambria, California, his home town. Previously a defense contractor, he now works at his father’s garage, Dunn Right Service and Auto Repair.
Neal “Harp” Harper, Logan’s dad, has a best friend Tooney who owns the coffee shop Logan stops by every morning. Originally from Burma, one of Tooney’s daughters, Sein is sort of an ambassador for her country, trying to free its people from their horrid government. The Republic of the Union of Myanm...more

Logan is a former military contractor who has left that life behind and now runs an auto repair shop. One morning he prevents what he thinks is an attempted burglary at a friend's coffee shop and is later asked to look for the man's daughter, who has gone missing. Things rapidly escalate from there.

A fast-paced action-mystery with changing locations and a revolving cast of interesting characters. Everyone seems to be hiding something and nothing is what it first appears to be. A well-written sto...more

ooh! another series by brett battles! colour me giddy!

logan harper ain't no jonathon quinn, though. sure, he's got some history - a history that provides the guilt that drives logan to accept responsibility he simply doesn't want. but he does, and his determination to see things to the end: awesome. a reluctant hero - love it.

sure, the main conflict is a bit far fetched. burmese bad guys, et al. but logan's character manages to suspend disbelief enough to enjoy it all.

Got this free for my Kindle from Amazon. First in a series of Logan Harper novels. Logan Harper’s life changes when he walks in on the attempted murder of his father’s best friend,Tooney. The plot thickens as we find Tooney’s granddaughter was supposed to visit but she’s now missing. I enjoyed. Kept me interested through to the end. I look forward to Logan Harper #2!

This was an action movie story. It read just like a fast-paced movie. As such, it was big of action and low on emotions. I never felt much connection to any of the characters, but the storyline was quick and entertaining.

While reading, I did have quite a few questions in the first half of the story. Mostly related to who Logan was, what where all the references to his past about, and how was he able to do everything he did. It almost seemed like this was the second book in the series. All my que...more

a good read, not Quinn by any means, but good all the same. I adore Brett and recommend his books to anyone and everyone. Not only is he a superb writer, he also interacts with his fans via goodreads and twitter and that makes him pretty alright in my book.
on to Logan Harper #2

Impatiently waiting for the new Quinn book 'The Enraged'...is it April yet???

Brett Battles does it again with this great new series. It's definitely different from the Jonathan Quinn series (which you should read too), but Logan Harper is an equally thrilling, complex, and interesting character. And also once again, Battles takes us on a thrilling ride across the globe --- all to save a girl. I could not recommend this any more! Read it!

Another great book by Battles. I'm not sure if Logan Harper will grow on me like Quinn, but I am already starting the 2nd Harper thriller. I am a huge Brett Battles fan and I simply don't understand how he keeps turning out quality reads so quick. Well whatever it is keep the recipe and continue doing what you do.. If you have never read a Battles novel you are simply missing the boat..

This book is an unexpected thriller. Exciting and hard to put down. The main character gets drawn into searching for a friend's granddaughter who has gone missing. The search takes him across the world to Thailand.

Good story line and well written, but I thought it was a little confusing with numerous characters. It was a bit predictible, but Still well worth the read.

I am flabbergasted this book got 4 stars. I am going to go read reviewers to try to figure out why.
It was a free Friday book for the Nook.

This read was a little better than 3 stars, but the story line is pretty predictable though it does a good job of holding your interest.

Great thriller and a nice change of pace from the usual stuff I have been reading!! Highly recommend!

This book was interesting, I love Mr Battles Jonathan Quinn cleaner series. But, this one kind of dragged for me and left me wanting to know so much more about the character Logan.
Rukhsana
Great book, gripping story and very fast paced.
I read it in a few days as I couldn't put it down!
Cheryl
Brett Battles is a wonderful author! I know him personally and always anticipate his next book!
Maya
I liked this book, although it's not as fast-paced and exciting as the Jonathan Quinn books. The main characters could use some more development. Perhaps that will be in the next book?
