Purple Cow tells how the traditional 4-Ps of marketing is lacking to move consumers in current day's media noisy market place. Marketing Guru and author, Seth Godin defines a new ' P ' that stands for 'PURPLE COW'. He coined the term PURPLE COW to mean a product or service having achieve huge differentiation, innovative and scores high on wow factor. On this point, Seth describes that the PURPLE COW will first attract the early adopters who will then take it through into the masses. He reasons ...more

The best way to make customers talk about your company and products is to give them something to talk about. Seems like common sense, right? But according to Seth Godin, few businesses take the simple steps needed to bring their products to the front of the pack.

In this collection of short essays, or "riffs," as he calls them, author Godin tells you how and why to revamp your product development cycle and marketing efforts to highlight your company's "remarkable" aspects...more

This is a very motivating and challenging book, and I loved that. Seth's basic premise is that marketers need to spend more dollars up-front on product design to create something remarkable - it's like Pragmatic Marketing with more color and enthusiasm. Long story short, this is what I've been trying to do for a long time, and I've encountered all the corporate resistance to doing something like this. Apparently not enough people have read this book, or realized the truth of the Purple Cow ph...more

This is the first Seth Godin book that hasn't inspired me to do something differently. Yes, remarkable is the way to go, much better then being a boring commodity. On the positive side his writing as ever is clear and entertaining and he riffs on his regular viral and permission marketing themes.

How can you write a marketing book about Purple Cows and not once mention the Milka Cow?

I went to a conference a few years ago and Seth Godin was the keynote speaker. He gave a really entertaining talk and so I decided to buy his book, which wasn't as entertaining as the talk. The basic idea is that in order to be successful at marketing you need to create a "buzz" and really stand out (umm...duh?).

This was my first Seth Godin book. Godin has a different perspective on business and marketing than anyone I've read. He's the one marketer who hates marketing and believes that the greatest means of marketing is still word of mouth. The book is inspiring and will challenge you to think outside the box.

Dah lama kagak baca buku2x marketing jadi awal2x kagok bacanya.

In today's world, playing it safe is risky. Take risks. Be different. Be remarkable.
This is a fun, quick read about marketing yourself, your product, or your service. Inspiring and exciting examples of people and businesses who have applied this philosophy to become "Purple cows."

Being remarkable. Working so that your product/service and by extension your "raving fan" customers replace your marketing team and expense. A lot of truth and valuable lessons to be learned. Seth should be on your business book shelf.

So far this is an okay marketing book... I haven't gotten that far into the big points, but I can see where it's going. It's a little dated now, but still has some good information for small businesses.

Gack. Warmed-over marketing advice. Ptui.

I dig Godin's website, but the book did nothing for me. After seeing the same graph (with minor changes) 4 times in 50 pages, I threw in the towel.

OK, so I've loved everything Seth Godin has penned. This may not be his best but, it certainly is work reading for anyone who needs to market a product, a service or him or herself.

THE marketing book out there, I think. Main message is that in order to win clients and enjoy success, you have to be extraordinary, different and most of all remarkable.
