Holy Shnikes, I've forgotten how funny the Fudge books are. Some of the one-liners here are KILLER.
A new baby is born into the Hatcher family. Peter's family moves to Princeton for a trial year, to see if they prefer it over the city. Naturally all sorts of shenanigans occur---courtesy of Farley Drexel Hatcher himself.

This book taught me how to handling younger annoying siblings and moving to another place is not easy .I congratulate Peter for doing such a good job in handling younger siblings and handling the stress of moving, changing schools, and changing friends.
I read this book in fourth grade and it really touched me and changed the way my brother and I get along.

I thought that this book was really funny. It is written for young adults. In this book there were very many trials. And most of them were for the boy this book is about. His name is Peter or "Peetah" for his little four year old brother. His first trial is he finds out he is going to have a baby sister. I also like this book because I've never moved and Peter has to move so I know what it would be like. I also have no younger siblings so I don't really know what it is like to have a little brot...more
I like this book because Peter goes through some tough emotions. For example on page 92 Fudge says that Peter doesnt need attention and that made Peter feel meloncholy/annoyed.Another example is on page 77 when Fudge climbs up a shelf and wont come down Peter has to come down to his room and get him down. All this action makes peter feel depressed/anxious. You would like this book if your going through what Fudge and Peter are going through. What their going through is hard because they could end u...more

Judy Blume excels at writing non-sentimental, naturalistic books about young children growing up with issues. In Superfudge, Peter Hatcher has to deal with his annoying little brother Fudge, moving to a new town and school, and adapting to a new baby sister. That's really it for a plot, but Blume's strength is in the characters. She nails how a ten year old thinks about things, and how they look at the world. She also includes the parents in the book, and gives them realistic motivations and act...more
Another amusing and enjoyable read.
The only problem with reading this one to a younger child is the chapter where Peter and his mum discuss the non-existence of Santa, and Fudge confesses to Peter that he knows Santa is not real. Luckily my nearly 7 year old daughter got impatient waiting for me to continue reading this as our family bed time story so went ahead and finished reading it on her own, which meant she had time to read this chapter before I did. She came to me and said she doesn't kn...more

I introduced Aidan to chapter books and the wonderful world of Judy Blume this week. We read it aloud every night before bed, and it was such fun to see him enjoy a book I loved as a child. It was also wonderful to watch him begin to understand that books can be just as enjoyable without pictures.
Superfudge brought the same laughs it did when I was a kid, but, reading it as a parent, I definitely found myself irritated at some points - lots of people telling one another to shut up, lots of name...more

This story is about a 5 year old boy named Farley Drexel Hatcher or Fudge and his older brother Peter. This book decribes how Peter is annoyed with Fudge's antics including how he plans to be a bird when he grows up, asks unending questions and brings up uncomfortable topics like how babies are made. As Peter struggles to deal with his little brother, his mother finds out she is pregnant and the family decides to move to New Jersey so his mother can take art classes and his father can work on wr...more

I read this book many times as a child and decided to read it again. I sure am glad I did, it reminded me of just how much I love this book! Peter Hatcher’s life seems to fall apart when his parents announce that they are having another baby, and his dad puts his job on hold to move to Princeton for a year and write a book. Poor Peter now he has to make new friends and get used to a whole new town.

I remember reading Judy Blume when I was younger and while I wasn't crazy about it, I enjoyed reading her books. All grown up and I find that my taste in books has not changed a jolt. So although I enjoyed some aspects of the book, such as Fudge and his funny lines or his silly ways ( I especially enjoyed when he put stamps all over his little sister) I found a lot of it to be easily forgetable and predictable. I also felt that it was out-dated in parts. For example, tapes were mentioned and the...more

Blume does such an excellent job with her books. They are an absolute joy to read. Superfudge was full of what a fourth or fifth grader wants, a fun and intresting plot, characters they can relate with, and text they can understand. The plot of Superfudge had twists and turns from the new baby's arrival to moves to and from the country. At the ages suggested above, children may relate if they have the same circumstances going on in their own lives. The characte...more

This is such a fun book! I listened to it with the kids in the car. There were times when we were all laughing out loud--and there were times when only Mommy was laughing her head off and the kids thought that I was crazy. :)
However, the only bad thing about listening to books on CD vs. reading aloud is that you can sensor more easily. There were a couple of things in this book that were too old for my six-year-old. Also, there were a lot of "stupids" and etc. that I just would have replaced wi...more

Ugh. So, I asked someone recently if they thought that I was too sensitive about language and other content in children's books. They hemmed and hawed, and I got the picture. But, really if my kid read this book and asked "What is the 'a-word'?", I wouldn't be too happy about that...so I don't think I'm too sensitive. I just think I have high standards (...that's a way to put a positive spin on it). I would have given this book 2.5 stars. This is the one I remember most from when I was a kid, bu...more
In this book Peter Hatcher must prepare for a repeat of his greatest fear, another baby. Peter often becomes annoyed with his younger brother Fudge, but now another baby is on the way. As if that weren’t enough, Peter’s parents announce that they will be moving to the country away from the big city for a whole year. Peter’s parents are going through a mid life crises, and decide it is time for a change of scenery. Peter must balance the new baby, his annoying brother, his dog Turtle, and a new h...more
This is Judy Blume's sequel to "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing." It's considerably longer than its predecesor, I found it a tad too long. Odd since it covers the events of an entire year in less than 200 pages. It's fast paced and I liked the ending, the ending in fact was the best part of the book. I'm sorry, that came out sounding nasty. I didn't mean I was happy to see it end, just that the ending was well done.

This book is by Judy Blume who is a great author. It’s a book where a young boy named Peter has to deal with family, enemies and also heroes. When this boy finds out he is going on a vacation with a really annoying girl and her family he gets very upset. Peter invites his friend who comes on the vacation with his dad. They experience a wide range of activities from creating art to meeting baseball players. They have a wild vacation from girls to woman to marriage. This is the most hectic, crazy...more
The second installment of long-suffering older brother Peter Hatcher and his insufferable little brother, Fudge. This time, the family welcomes a new baby and moves from NYC to spend a year in Princeton, while Fudge starts school.
The plot is very loose, and it all reads like a series of vignettes, rather than a cohesive whole. Still, there are some very funny moments, and the family is hard not to like.
I loved these books as a kid, but I admit I didn't enjoy it was much on this reading. I suppo...more

Teachers learn from books like this one. One should never read a book cold with children. I have made that mistake a few times in my career.
We had read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Wouldn't it be fine to read the sequel? Absolutely not!
We were halfway through. I read ahead some for the next few days and stumbled across a classic Judy Blume event. Yeah, the discussion of Christmas was highly uncomfortable for me. As a fourth grade teacher, I do not want to be the one who gives up the ghost. T...more

Peter, Fudge, and the Hatcher family move to Princeton, New Jersey, for a year while Dad tries his hand at writing a book. Baby Tootsie is born and causes the usual major strain that a new baby causes a family. Peter and Fudge start at their new school, and Fudge promptly kicks his kindergarten teacher because she insists on using his given name rather than his nickname. It's the usual mix of hilarious moments in the Hatcher family, mixed with the very real problems of acjusting to several life-...more

Judy Blume spent her childhood in Elizabeth, New Jersey, making up stories inside her head. She has spent her adult years in many places doing the same thing, only now she writes her stories down on paper. Adults as well as children will recognize such Blume titles as: Are You There God?
