Shelves: romance, historical
The cover of Scandal at the Farmhouse is very soft and delicate just as the story is, but pay attention to the color red.

The book has a strong beginning, a beautiful and interesting plot and headstrong protagonists. Clara, our heroine, caught my attention from the start and she’s very easy to relate to. But by the end of the book she changes her mind so fast I couldn’t believe the words that came out of her mouth. It was too sudden, maybe she could have realised some things before the last chapt

Scandal at the Farmhouse is a poignant and well-written short-story/novella that touches on some important social issues. Clara Fraser-Hughes is dreading her upcoming arranged marriage. As a Victorian-era single woman, she has few options when her parents say she must wed the man of their choosing.

Facing a loveless marriage...

Edward Allendale is the widower who lives next door. He formerly worked on the railroads and inherited the estate from a distant relative. His gentry neighbors will not

Cody Young, the author of this book brought it to my attention, and I am so glad she did. This book was wonderful! It is the story of a relationship that was forbidden by society. It was forbidden because of the social differences between the man and the woman. The woman, Clara, came from a high society family, Ned had inheretid his money from a dead relative. He did things different from what the neighbors thought was proper. For instance, he would ntake his shirt off at the well and rinse it ...more

Clara the Lord's daughter met Ned the new owner of the farm next to her father's estate in the meadow. They met often and she helped him learn about being a farmer and he told her of the world beyond her limited one as the protected daughter of a Lord in Scandal at the Farmhouse. Her father arranged a marriage to a Major and she was to be married and go to India with her new husband that she could not stand. She asked Ned for a public kiss to break her engagement, when that didn't work she took ...more

Scandal at the Farmhouse is a easy read for a nice escape anytime! I love Cody Young's writing style! This historical romance is one you will not forget! I like that it is a forbidden relationship with some complications. I liked how Clara would speak her mind, I found it to be very refreshing for that time period when it was not done. The story is straight forward no need for a dictionary with this story! This does contain a detailed description of the consummating the marriage. If you don't ...more

Kindle e-book.

Young is another author who is fast becoming a favourite of mine. I reviewed another of her novels (American Smile) a few months ago and am pleased to say that this historical romance lives up to the style that worked so well ni her period-hopping modern novel. The writing is lively, the characters bursting with energy and the passion smoulders so much I’m surprised my Kindle didn’t burst into flames!

This was a quick and enjoyable read. I've not read many historical romances but ones that are written like this is not the bore that some of them can be. It's not bogged down with the 1800s language so much that you need a translator. Scandal at the Farmhouse was a nice change of pace from my normal tie of reading and I would definitely give other of Ms. Young's books a read.

Excellent for a short story

Very well written. You are drawn in to the story very quickly. The plot moves along at a nice place. You never feel a rush to the end.

WTF was this?? I'd give it 0 if I could

Seriously??? WTF was this? It was a high school version of a short story, not a book. Thank GOD I didn't pay for this!!!

Déçue! Trop court pour s'attacher aux personnages et je n'ai pas réussie à m'imprégner de l'ambiance ni à entrer vraiment dans l'histoire.
