LONGING, book three in the Bailey Flannigan series from Karen Kingsbury had better pacing then the previous two.
I felt LONGING had a little more oomph to it. A little more tragic then the previous installments, I felt the triangle between Bailey, Brandon, and Cody eased some. But, as in all fiction romance, there is still a door cracked open to spin things a completely different way.

A great continuation of the series. I have sometimes thought this author could be a little predictable, but this book kept me guessing and totally surprised me in the end. I can't wait to read the final book in this series to see what decisions Bailey makes for her life. I love the relationship she has with her mother and how her mother confesses to trying to write the story of her life and must turn that over to God. A great, but sometimes tough lesson for a mother. I also enjoy the interaction...more
Bailey Flanigan had finally fulfilled her dream of being on Broadway. She was living in New York and in the Broadway production of Hairspray. She was dating Brandon Paul. She met him on the set on Unlocked, a movie they both starred in. He had become a Christian because of her witnessing to him while they were working together. When she was on the set of Unlocked, she had been dating Cody Coleman. She loved Cody since she was a teenager. When Cody broke things off, she started to date Brandon. C...more
I was so excited to get this book in my hands! And NOW I can't wait for Loving in March! I love the characters in this book. I have "watched" as Bailey has grown up and become a wonderful young woman. She shows us that even when things are difficult that God can get us through it. We may not know WHY things are the way they are at the time but if we trust that God works all things for good then at some point we will be able to look back and see how God worked through that situation.

Longing is the third book in the Bailey Flanigan series (following Leaving and Learning, with the final book, Loving, due to be published in March 2012). I haven’t read the first two (although I have read all the previous books right back from the beginning of the Baxter Family books), and I found it easy to pick up any details I may have missed in those two books. However, aspects of the novel would probably be quite confusing for someone who has not read the any of the previous novels, as the...more
Even though Cody and Bailey are dating other people, their story is not yet finished. When life events cause their paths to cross, the two must figure out their lingering feelings for each other. Will they return to their first love or discover that your first love isn't always your forever love?
After being disappointed with the first two books in the Bailey Flanigan series, I enjoyed Longing. Bailey finally makes a decision about which man is the one for her. (I won't spoil it for you, but I wi...more

LONGING
Bailey Flanigan Series Book #3
By Karen Kingsbury
Thanksgiving has come and Bailey and her new boyfriend Brandon Paul are spending it with the Flanigan family in Bloomington, Indiana. It’s been a while since Bailey has seen or talked to Cody, but when she hears that he is coaching the Lyle Buckaroos in Friday’s State Championship her emotions are mixed. Does she want to see him or avoid him as he’s been avoiding her for the last year.
At the State Championship, Cody’s eyes are drawn to the...more

I have been a team Cody fan from the very start when Karen Kingsbury introduced the Flanigan Family in the Baster series; so I wasn’t very pleased when I was seeing Bailey and Brandon’s relationship getting so serious as I still held hope that Bailey and Cody may still find their way back to each other.
After reading a majority of Karen Kingsbury’s novels and series, I was very inspired so my standard that I had set from all her books are pretty high and she has always been able to exceed that in...more

I love all of Karen Kingsbury's books. She really writes from the heart and makes all of her characters with depth. I really hate to write anything bad about her or her books but I wasn't really thrilled with this book.
On one hand, in my opinion, this whole love story/drama could have been cut down into 2 books. But then on the other hand I understand love is hard. Bailey and Cody had to battle some deep things. So, therefore I can see it taking 4 books to get through. I will read the 4th in th...more

This book is my favorite, so far, in the Bailey Flanigan series. For quite a long time I wondered if Karen Kingsbury had written herself into a place where she would be disappointing about half of her readers, depending on whether Brandon or Cody ended up with Bailey's hand in marriage. I should have known an author of her talent would have the perfect plan already worked out; there is one book left, but the events in this one, although some are very sad, are also very satisfying and fulfilling....more
I'm not sure how to describe my feelings for this book. First of all I should say that I love Karen Kingsbury. I mean I really love Karen Kingsbury. I have been to eight of her events in 4 different states and own over 60 of her books, most of which are autographed. I earned the title of KK #1 Fan in an essay contest sponsored by Zondervan. So, while I gave Longing 5 stars and I do love Karen's books, I have one complaint about the book. I wanted the story to progress faster. I'm used to romance...more

Longing is the third book in the Bailey series. Bailey has loved Cody since she was in high school and she is now in New York dancing in Hair Spray. We have watched her finish high school, go to college, film the movie Unlocked and move to New York. We have watched this relationship hit high points and very low points. In the last book (maybe it was the one before) Bailey started a relationship with Brandon Paul, a very popular movie star from Hollywood that she filmed Unlocked with.

Karen Kingsbury has captured our hearts again. The Flannigan’s have invited us into their lives once again as Bailey continues to perform on Broadway and begins making decisions about her future and figuring out where God is leading her, and who He is leading her too. Continuing to run a small Bible Study with members of the cast Bailey continues to face challenges in sharing her faith with the cast.

I believe I enjoyed this book, number three in the Bailey Flanigan series, more than the second release. Bailey and Brandon Paul's relationship grows stronger and moves forward, whereas Cody - thanks to his friend Cheyenne, discovers something about himself and reconnects with the Flanigan family. It seems to have a faster pace than number two and doesn't just bog down forever in the past relationship of Cody and Bailey. Bailey also finds her stint on Broadway ending, opening doors to new possib...more
The trouble I have with these books is that they drag on forever. I skipped the book before this and felt like I really hadn't missed much at all. This is Christian fiction and it is heavy on the Christian. I knew that going into it though so I can't really complain. I'm just ready to see this Bailey/Cody/Brandon saga reach a conclusion.
I listened to this on a long car drive. I'll pick up the last book in this series to have some closure, but I don't think I'll be reading any more of Karen King...more

I had this pre-ordered and couldn't wait to start reading once it arrived. So glad that in this book Bailey does finally make a choice between Cody and Brandon and seems to be happy with her choice and the direction her life is headed. I was surprised by the dilemma that Cody faces but pleased that he turned to his faith in God to get him through. I felt like this was a great look at Bailey's life as she continues to grow up and face life in New York. As with all her novels, Karen Kingsbury remi...more
As the story of Bailey, Cody, and Brandon continues, big events happen. There's a death; someone becomes a Christian; there's a fight; and, of course, the quasi-love-triangle between the three main characters is still going strong. If you've been keeping up with the series this far, no doubt you feel at least somewhat emotionally vested in the characters, and Longing definitely delivers in that respect. I do feel, though, that the series is getting slightly tired, much like a sitcom entering its...more
Bailey and Cody…the saga continues. This story took some twists I did not anticipate.
I was sad for Bailey that her run on Broadway ended…and a little disappointed that she gave up on Broadway so soon. Brandon still seems a bit too good to be true to me. But perhaps that’s just my cynical side talking. And, of course, I’m always rooting for Cody.
Although this story was really good at revealing some of Cody’s flaws and showing more of his self-actualization.

This series of books is a tricky one for me to review. On the one hand, they are kind of cheesy with sweeping and dramatic story lines (every crisis under the sun seems to find its way to these characters) and Kingsbury writes about these families with the same epic drama usually reserved for Old Testament patriarchs.
And yet . . .
I read all 4 in a week.
So obviously they weren't that bad :)
The best way to describe them is probably "Christian soap opera." There is nothing inappropriate in the book...more

This book is definitely the best of series so far. The writing is not spectacular, but this one doesn't have the "triteness" of the other two, which I personally appreciate. I will say, however, that I'm still not a huge fan of Brandon. I want to like him, but he's just a little too perfect. Having Jesus in your life doesn't mean you change overnight, but that's what seemed to happen to him. I'd like to see him make a few mistakes - make a movie he regrets, be portrayed incorrectly by the media,...more
Ever since i read Reunion, from the Baxter series and first met Bailey Flanigan and Cody Coleman. I have grown to love them both and dreaming that they fall in love and get married.
All through the series of the Firstborn Series, Sunrise Series, until I read the Above the Line series and Bailey met Brandon Paul, and he started to fall for Bailey...and she started to fall for him as well! My heart is still hoping for Bailey and Cody, but I'm starting to think it might not happen.
Anyways "Longing"...more

Another winner from Karen Kingsbury. Although 3rd in the series this book ceretainly didn't have me 'longing' for it to end. Quite the contary.
Continue the drama in Bailey Flannigan's life - we catch up with the story as the threads start to draw the story inward slightly. Times in New York begin to end and there are some poinent scenes as cast memebers come to realise just what Bailey has been demonstrating to them all along.

I liked this book somewhat better then the first two in this series. But the same problem persists in this book that I've had with the others and that's that Bailey and Cody still don't get together. It just seems so very odd to me that the author, Karen Kingsbury, would set it up in her previous series to show through a prayer and answer to prayer that Bailey and Cody were going to be married in the future, and now it's like that part of the story has been forgotten by the author. Anyway, there...more
"Longing" is an excellent third installment to the Bailey Flanigan series. Again, we see the trials and joys Bailey encounters, but we also see some resolutions to issues from Bailey's past. The possiblity of an engagement is brought around, and Bailey must truly ask herself difficult life questions. Could she truly forever live in LA with Brandon?
Also, we see Cody develop into a stronger man of faith with an opinion. Does he REALLY love Bailey, or just the idea of her? And what about Cheyenne...more

Ok, KK still has me bawling my eyes out. This book really flipped things for me! I am enjoying this series more because I think real life has entered into them a little more...I don't know, maybe it's because she's modeling Bailey after her daughter who has entered the big wide world and been hit by adult life. I still don't like how the men are so perfect and listen and are polite and adore their wives, are spiritual leaders, good looking, wealthy...I'm sorry, my husband but I'm leaving you for...more
This is the third book in the series and I really enjoyed it. I found myself almost skimming it at times as I just wanted to find out what was going to happen next but at the same time just wanted to say, enough already just get to some conclusion! Karen often will recap and state little things that happened in the previous books- which would be good if you picked up the series halfway through, but gets a little redundant if you read it in order.
