So many things to love about this book.
From the beginning, you think you 'get it'. It's clear that she was in an accident. It's clear that she's in a place where things aren't as they seem. You think you understand it. I love that there's a twist and that I wasn't completely right.

I love the characters. The world of children is magical and you really feel a part of it. The only part that threw me off a little was that I was so immersed in the children's world and view of the world that some of...more

I absolutely loved this book. Vicki King is an excellent story teller with an amazing imagination. I was drawn into this book immediately and felt as if I was living the story through Trista and reliving all of my childhood adventures too. Vicki seamlessly intertwines sub-plots urging the reader to read on and on. I'm hooked and can't wait for sequels.

I bought another copy of "Kingdom of the Green Glass Straw" to give to my 13-year old twin Godsons
(not wanting to give up my copy) and they are...more

I enjoyed reading this for book club, although I think it would make a better play. King is creative, which I like. The problem is the characterization. I feel like I'm getting a vague idea of who the main characters are, but they aren't real, they aren't fully developed the way that Harry Potter characters are. Some of the characters' actions feel out of character, not consistent with their personalities. It was just ok. If this was a play, it's a little slow moving. Yes, there were the funny m...more

Magical beings, mysterious caves, adventure, suspense, danger, friendship, romance, life lessons, and last but not least the wisdom of Aunt Emma - all the makings for a fabulous read! I laughed and cried along with the characters and felt as if I had been transported myself into the magical realm of The Kingdom. Just when I thought I knew where the story was taking me....there was another twist which captivated me all over again. I couldn't put it down! In today's world, it's nice to read a nove...more

Although It was written for young adults or teens Kingdom of the Green Glass Straw held my attention admirably. One reason it was able to do this is because Ms. King developed her characters so well that the reader becomes instantly involved with their lives and the story. This is the essential skill for every writer of fiction and Ms. King has it.
