Another favorite shoujo and anime series is Sailor Moon. If you haven’t read this yet? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR IT’S LIKE THE BEST THING EVER. I’m slowly making my way through the new manga as they release them and let me just say that the colored pages are AMAZEBALLS. Also, SWEET NOSTALGIA. This was my face after I found out they were re-releasing the manga and rebooting the anime series:

Kukuku! This volume really surprised me! Especially the relationships between Usagi and Mamoru (Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask). Takeuchi did a wonderful job of making me feel for these two in such a short amount of time. Especially, once the all the scouts finally meet up—SailorV finally comes in. The whole Princess of the Moon was handled very well, and if the art for the missing princess had been a bit more vague I think it could have almost fooled readers. Make that a really big almost. Ok. No...more

Okay, I'm still not getting how no one guessed Sailor Moon was the Moon Princess before it is 'shockingly' revealed by the moon on her forehead. I guess the Sailor Venus double-thing works, but it still is blatantly obvious that Sailor Moon is the princess. Oh well. (view spoiler)

There were a few interesting turns, but I find that Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask's relationship just shot up out of no where....more

I'll admit that this is one of my favorite parts of the series for reasons I can't really divulge due to spoiler reasons. (There's got to be at least 4-5 people who haven't seen the anime or read the Wikipedia synopsis.) I'm going to review this in two parts: the artwork and the story.

First the artwork: It's gorgeous. This is a pivotal time in the series, so the artwork gets both dreamy and serious accordingly. The splash pages at the beginning of the manga really are fun to look at. A great add...more

Now that we've gotten all the introductions out of the way, I'm excited to see where Sailor Moon will take me.

This volume was all about the mythology. It answers a lot of the questions posed in volume one. And although it didn't have a lot of information about the Guardians themselves, the mission has become infinitely more clear. This can only be a good thing as the plot quickly progresses.

I'm still surprised how much happens in just these first two books. In just this volume alone there were...more

Sailor V appears and Artemis claims that she is Princess Serenity. Alright.

Now, has it never occurred to the five girls that they're all PLANETS, but Sailor Moon is a Satellite orbiting the Earth? If one of them was indeed the Princess, wouldn't she somehow stand out and not be the THIRD planet away from the sun?

Mercuy - Venus - Earth (Moon) - Mars - Jupiter... (later we have Pluto coming but not that has been completely spoiled now that we know that Pluto's actually a dwarf planet).

Anyhow, I li...more

Tuxedo Mask and Usagi are just too damn cute. I love, love, love this series !!!

Oh Usagi and Mamoru, someday you will live happily ever after, but not today.
This is my favourite volume of the Sailor Moon manga simply because I love how Usagi finds out Mamoru is Tuxedo Mask (I am sorry but the anime version is just sad in comparison, he has a rose therefore he must be Tuxedo Mask, please). In the manga it is so much more then just a mask or a rose, it is the colour of his eyes. Usagi even says that she is surprised she never saw it before, the colour of his eyes, like she co...more

Al...more

As with Vol.1, I found the illustrations to be breathtakingly gorgeous and the translation to be really well done. Any Japanese slang or cultural references are contextualized at the back of the book and I really appreciated learning a little bit about Japan as I read.

This book really builds on the backstory from Vol.1 with less of the rapid who-are-we-fighting? pace. The romance between Usagi and Mamo-Chan is palpable: it adds a more humanizing touch to the out-of-this-world alternate dimension...more

Volume 2 of this classic manga contains more elements you’ll recognize from season 1 of the anime: namely the reveal of Tuxedo Mask’s identity to his kidnap and transformation. Usagi/Mamoru shippers won’t be disappointed, and fans of the anime will enjoy seeing a more complex version of their favourite characters, especially Usagi who is more well-rounded in the manga than she is in the anime. There’s also some great Silver Millennium backstory, which is...more

It's amazing how some aspects of the story seem to move incredibly fast (such as finding the whole team, or Bunny, er Usagi and Darien, um, Mamoru's growing attraction for each other) and other parts, such as going up against the enemy seem slow. I know that there are several factors in play with this notion. I'm very familiar with then anime, as is most kids my age are up until the outer scouts start coming in. I have also read this before. I just want to skip to the good parts and forget about...more

In the second volume, the last sailor guardian, Sailor Venus (AKA Sailor V) reveals herself to the group. The identity of the Moon Princess is revealed, the Legendary Silver Crystal is found and the girls found out some important truths about the past that have brought them to their current situation.

Though I kept it very brief, a lot of things happen in this second volume. Usagi is revealed to the Moon...more

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Volume 2 continues the story of Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts. In this volume we get further development of Usagi and Mamrou's relationship, along with some really damn good sexual tension between the two characters. The scouts are forced to step their game up as the Dark Kingdom increases their efforts to fine the Imperium Silver Crystal.

Since that is all I can say without any spoilers I will highlight some little things in this book that I liked. I enjoy the f...more

Adorei saber a história da Princesa Se...more

Ahh!! This volume was a lot more like the Sailor Moon I knew and loved... complete will silly shenanigans from the friends as they hang out! The storyline is actually pretty intense! And I liked that it really had one main focus instead of multiple small ones like the last volume. It makes it seem less rushed and the reader is able to get into the storyline more. More importantly, Sailor Venus joined the team in this volume, so clearly it's great ;-) Though she actually isn't my favorite Sailor...more

Usagi starts the volume in Mamoru's room where they find out each others' secrets. The pace continues to be quick with Sailor V on scene claiming to be the Moon Princess. (view spoiler) The volume ends before the final battle, but I would have been severely disappointed if the story had been so condensed that the final battle was in this one.

I do miss some of the filler that the anime added. You get what...more

Here we go! This is the Sailor Moon I remember reading in single issue releases and in Tokyopop's original GN releases. So naturally, it's more of a re-read than a new read, albeit with Kodansha's brand new translation which does the story a lot of kindnesses, especially with Usagi and the references to name (no more Bunny Tsukino, thank goodness!). I love these chapters of Usagi's memories coming back and the Senshi going to the moon, as well as those involving Usagi and Mamoru's time-spanning...more

See, this one was better. It was definitely more dramatic and kept my attention better (even though, yeah, I already know what happens next). I don't think Ms. Takeuchi and her team did much better with backgrounds in this volume than in the first, but there is slightly more work on it simply because they went to the Moon and that had to be established in your brain. All you ever see of Silver Millennium in the show is the palace ruins (at least up to where I am in S3) so I have a feeling that's...more

I loved it even more the second time around!

The sequel has a lot more action and I loved it. The characters were further developed and I'm excited to see what the next volume will bring.

I also enjoyed it a lot that everything was so fast-paced and that the companions discovered their true identity that fast.

I'm going to jump right into the third volume!

Einige Bösewichte (Vie...more

The translation of Volume 2 seems a bit less stuffy than that on Volume 1. I'm not sure if it's getting better, I'm getting more used to the formal language, or if the increased seriousness of the plot in this volume just lends itself better to the translator's tendency towards more formal speech patterns.

Having originally experienced Sailor Moon in the drawn out and full of filler anime, I was surprised to remember how quickly the plotline runs in the manga. The pacing is rapid, but reasonable...more

Another amazing graphic novel by Naoko Takeuchi. The story is so good and the artwork is stunningly beautiful as always. This is my first time actually reading through the Sailor Moon manga book-by-book and I'm always surprised by the differences between the manga and the original anime such as the introduction of Sailor Venus; the back story of Jadeite, Zoisite, Kunzite, and Nephrite; and the Romeo and Juliet-esque back story of Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion.

Since they said that the reb...more

Somewhat better than Vol 1, but still pretty "meh". I was planning to read the entire series, as I'd missed out when it was first released in North America, but I'm not sure I'll make it very far unless things start picking up!
