Mr. Fox steals food nightly from one of the three disgusting and gluttonous farmers who have more then they need. The farmers get mad and set out to kill Mr. Fox. They have a hard time catching him, they destroy the earth trying to get him out of his hole, they waste many man-hours by making their workers surround the woods with weapons and ultimately Mr. Fox with the help of other underground animals find another way into the farms and go about their stealing in peace while the farmers sit end More...

Fantastic Mr Fox exhibits the very best of Roald Dahl as we see Mr Fox battle against the three mean farmers: Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Initially Mr. Fox has no problem in taking poultry from the farms to feed his family; however, Boggis, Bunce and Bean soon develop a plan that’ll end their fox problem once and for all.

The evil trio plan to dig Mr Fox out of his home and soon recruit all their staff to their mission. However, not to be outdone, the canine simply tunnels underground to More...

In my opinion Roald Dahl has undoubtedly created a unique and fascinating character in Mr. Fox. From the opening page Mr. Fox immediately catches the readers attention and interest. The book itself describes the adventures, mishaps and success stories of the main character while also portraying the devastation he creats upon other character such as the farmer and on the chickens too. Although some people may not agree with my opinions I believe this book accurately diplays the ways and habits More...

My cousin gave my son this book, saying it was given to him as a child and that he really liked it, and thus inter-generational sharing of the literary tradition is shared.

I read this book to my sons over the weekend and finished it last night. Quite a joyous book. First he establishes the characters, then presents a challenge, and then Mr. Fox becomes fantastic by his ideas, and is feted by all. It's a book about mean farmers, exploiters and murderers, and wildlife.

Mr. Fox outwits three farmers who are trying to kill him because he steals food from them. All the animals who live underground (rabbits, badgers, foxes, etc.) are starving. They can't go above ground because the farmers are waiting to blast away at them. Mr. Fox finds a way to steal food and drink for everyone by tunneling directly to the various farms. All the critters celebrate with a huge feast.

I found it odd that all the animals were praising and cheering Mr. Fox for his ingenuit More...

Witty, charming and memorable...it is ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’.

Every time Mr Fox steals chickens from the three crooked farmers, they go wild with rage. The farmers then come up with a plan to kill Mr Fox, which does not go very well, with their best attempt being only to shoot at his tail. Mr Fox is brave and determined to escape the three crooked farmers plan, that he keeps digging underground until he devised a plan of his own, which is to dig ‘pointing sideways and downward’ until he rea More...

Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake

Fantastic Mr Fox, written by Roald Dahl, tells the story of a country Fox and his family. Their peace and lives are shattered by three farmers that live near-by, who become increasingly outraged and obsessed about the foxes stealing food. The farmers’ determination leads to more and more extreme measures to kill Mr Fox and his family. The story ends happily with Mr Fox managing to outsmart the farmers and living happily a More...

Fantastic Mr Fox is one of many brilliant books written by the imaginative and witty author Roald Dahl.
The story follows Mr. Fox and his antics of stealing food from the farmers who’s land borders his home. These farmers are different in looks – one fat, one short, one lean but they are notorious amongst everyone in the surrounding area’s for their mean ways.
The story follows their quest to stop Mr. Fox from stealing from them and to exterminate him and his family.

Fantastic Mr Fox

Roald Dahl

As much as I enjoyed all of Roald Dahl’s books I feel a certain loyalty to Fantastic Mr Fox as it was the first of Dahl’s books that I read. A common trait throughout Dahl’s work is that of a simple story with an underlying message. This trait is clearly evident in Fantastic Mr Fox.

Dahl manages to portray the typically elusive character of a fox as the hero of this story, describing him as a family man that will go to any length to More...

I've always been a fan of Roald Dahl books. As an ESL teacher I've had the pleasure of using his books as teaching instruments as well. In the heady days of my graduate program I find myself often turning to kids books for relief. First, there was my favorite, Where the Wild Things Are--which I am happy to say I have copies of in both Japanese and English. Then, there was Maniac Magree. This one was perhaps my favorite because I WAS Maniac Magee growing up. There are others I would like to retur More...

This novel wrote in 1970 by the author, Roald Dahl is a must read for both children and adults alike. Fantastic Mr Fox is a tale of survival and about taking care of one’s family. Mr. Fox doesn’t have it easy, he has a family to provide for and three local farmers, ‘Boggis and Bunce and Bean’ to contend with, ‘One fat, one lean, one mean’. None of these farmers like it when Mr. Fox helps himself to their stock night after night.

What a fantastic little story; I am a big fan of Roald Dahl and I think that have read all of his works, well except for this one. So I could not resist reading this when I saw it at the library. I actually finished reading this book at the library, I did not even have to check it out.

I, from now on, am completely in love with this story. As a wee little tot I had read several Roald Dahl books from various teacher’s libraries (or more like their shared book shelf at the back of the classroom that also homed comforts such as Curious George, and One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish). Dahl’s writing and characters always made me chuckle, along with Blake’s very unique style of illustrations. And here I am now, a University English major, still laughing along with Dahl’s drunk More...

I was pretty pumped to read this for two reasons. One, this is one of the only Roald Dahl books I read as a kid (the other being "The BFG"). Two, this is one of my absolute favorite movies. Although I didn't remember much of the book from when I was little, and the movie is not totally similar to the book, I still enjoyed reading "The Fantastic Mr. Fox." Reading it immediately after "The Twits" made me notice a couple reoccurring themes in Dahl's books:

I read this book in Spanish, so I have a feeling I missed some of the poetry and charm of this novel. Language differences aside, I was till impressed with this book. It is a charming and yet deep story. I read it because I simply love the Wes Anderson movie and I wanted to see what was different between the two stories. I figured this would clue me in a bit to his style and give me an idea of what he was all about when I saw what he changed a bit from the book. I also was looking at Roald D More...

I’m a Roald Dahl fan, and with the recent success of the Fantastic Mr. Fox movie, I thought I should pick up this book and give it a go.

Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl is about a fox that steals food for himself and his family from three farmers: chickens from Boggis, ducks and geese from Bunce, and turkeys from Bean.

All three farmers were mean and nasty. And their joint hatred for the thieving Mr. Fox makes them join forces to kill him.

They hang out and wait More...

As a Roald Dahl fan, I don't know how I never read this book as a kid, when I read pretty much all of his other books. Now I am an adult and finally decided to read it. It was great! I don't know why I waited so long!
I noticed in some other reviews on this book, people have complained about some aspects being inappropriate for kids, such as some mild name-calling, and the use of alcohol. From the perspective of an elementary teacher, I see no problem with letting kids read this book. Kids More...

Great and FUN story - but I would recommend talking with your kids about it too!

I *LOVED* this book as a kid and re-read it as an adult to preview it for my niece and nephew. I was a little surprised about the story I remembered and the story that *is*. It's honestly brutal about farm life (shooting the foxes) and fantastical all in the same breath - which is fun. The three human characters are almost exact caricatures of alcoholism, gluttony, etc.

Mr. Fox definitely isn' More...

I bought this book for two reasons:
1. I'd just seen a preview for the movie and thought it looked pretty funny and I liked the animation style
2. I've enjoyed the Roald Dahl books I've read previously

With regards to the movie influence, I haven't yet seen the movie. Based on the reviews I've read, it sounds like a fun little film but definitely a bit different than the book. Eventually I'd like to watch it.

As to the book itself, it was a very quick read ove More...

Review to come...read in anticipation of movie. Also why didn't the farmers just flood the tunnels?

Mr. Fox and his family have quite a set up, they live next to three repulsive farmers, Farmer Boggis, Farmer Bunce and Farmer Bean. They respectively raise chickens, ducks and geese and turkeys and apples. The fox family eats well every night and Mr. Fox is a great provider, hence the "fantastic" handle. Finally the farmers collectively snap and instead of waiting for the nigh More...

I reckon most people are aware that Wes Anderson is making/has made a stop-motion film based on this short children's novel. As a long-time fan of both Roald Dahl and Wes Anderson, the book had been on my radar screen for a while, but it took a couple strips in Kochalka's American Elf to finally get me to take a look. Since it's such a short work, I decided to read it online (scribd.com).

That's not an ideal set-up, (especially since I was interrupted several times) but the story is c More...

It was fine. I say 'fine' because it's an awful lot of discription on such a trivial thing. Nothing much happened in the story. It's only mostly all about the foxes breaking into one storage after another and stealing food. What else is there to talk about after that, though? It's not much of a story, not one I would go out of my way to read, though I have read it multiple times when I get hungry because that cider stuff sounds SWEET. But when you think about it, if Roald Dahl had said to himsel More...

I've always enjoyed Roald Dahl, but I had never read this one. It's a fun story, with the protagonist dashing and smart, even with his tail blown off, and the villainous farmers are ever so evil. Drunkards, gluttons, and generally cruel. The best part about the book though is how it's More...

Charming, but I can't get out of my head the Perry Bible Fellowship comic strip in which a mother reads a storybook to her brat son about mean old farmer Benjamin chasing poor little Peter Rabbit and friends out of his carrot patch, and in the final frame a weary Farmer Benjamin is consoled by his loving wife, who tells him that somehow they'll make it through winter in spite of their ravaged crop.
