Despite the author's assumption that the reader is already familiar with the history of the Bengal Delta (because let's face it who else would read this) he presents an understandable environmental history of the area. It was an interesting perspective on how geologic and hydrologic features affected political and social conditions of Bengal and how several environmental issues (like railroad construction and invasive species removal) were treated within a colonial context.
