Ok, so I'm into cowboys right at the moment and that is just the way it is! I never thought I would be--there have been many years when I looked at an American historical or contemporary "Western" novel and just shuddered. No way, no how! Just give me another gorgeous Regency historical and I'll be a happy camper, or so I said. Yet I find myself enjoying American historicals more and more and as well as gravitating toward those tall, broad-shouldered, dark, handsome, mysterious cowboy types. Go...more

Rough and ready cowboy meet one sassy motel owner. Toss in a mystery or two and you've got the makings of a great story, Red's Hot Cowboy by Carolyn Brown. This is one of those books you won't want to miss.
I will warn, there are a lot of characters, but as per Ms. Brown's style, it's like reading about a gigantic extended family. Everyone is important to the story and I couldn't leave any of them out. But I'm going to focus on the he...more

This is the first Carolyn Brown book I’ve read. And, of course, because it’s me, I picked the second book in a series to read first. However, it was a really good book. I laughed nearly through the whole thing. It was a typical romance, lovely, funny, full of dates, and good feelings. There was a little sadness in a few parts of it, but it was really a wonderful read. I haven’t read a simple romance in a long time, and this one was a fun one. I think my favorite line in the whole book was when P...more
Pearl Richland has given up her job as a loan officer in a large bank, and has decided to run the motel her great aunt Perlita left her in her will. She's tired of watching other people pursue their dreams and has decided it's her turn. She's enjoying running the hotel, even if it does leave her tired and with no time to go out and have fun. A winter storm knocks the power out in the next city over, and suddenly her little motel is full. The last guest to check in, Wil Marshall, is one handsome...more
This is a quirky, sassy, and delightful read. In this story Pearl "Red" inherits her aunts motel the Longhorn Inn and quits her exec. bank job to run it. Wil Marshall is a ruggedly handsome rancher who loves to go toe to toe with Pearl any chance he gets. They both have insecurities that threaten to end the budding relationship before it starts but the author manages to balance the storyline keeping you both entertained and wanting more all at the same time. Also introduced in this story is Lucy...more
Red's Hot Cowboy by Carolyn Brown
Pearl rescued Will Maxwell from the police that dragged him away. He in return paid for lunch and also helped her clean the bathrooms and did laundry the next day after everybody left the inn. It was Christmas day and they were invited to his friends house.
She had inherited the inn from her aunt and was earning a decent living.
He was a bad boy and she had to keep her distance from him at all costs.
She hired Lucy when she saw the condition she arrived in. Lucy was...more

Maybe I haven't read enough cowboy's books but this one felt different to me from all the romance novels. Very good diffence.
I admit I picked this book coz I thought the cover was really pretty. My eyes made a really good choice :p I had the kind of feeling I sometimes get from books. The one when I think: "I'll either adore this book or I'll totally hate it." Well... I liked it even more than I thought. Add with chocolate cake, this one was just the perfect date. Made me want to move to Texas,...more

drey’s thoughts:
Carolyn Brown totally owns the cowboy-romance segment of the market. Seriously. Her heroes are hunky and sexy, and completely droolworthy. Her heroines are beautiful and strong, and total smart-alecks. And her stories will make even the most cynical misty-eyed and wistful. What’s not to love?
Red and Wil continue to fit the mold of Carolyn’s hero and heroine. There are sparks, fights, and fireworks. There are best friends and gossip and good-natured ribbing. There’s always the un...more

Much of the US has been experiencing near record breaking or above temperatures so now’s the time to relax with a good book set during cooler weather.
Reading one of author Carolyn Brown’s books always gives me the feel of warmth, friendship and family. While Brown’s latest release, RED’S HOT COWBOY, begins during the Christmas holidays make no mistake there’s plenty of heat when the cowboy and the entrepreneur tangle.

: I have always been a fan of Carolyn Brown's work. They are light reads that let you take a plunge into a world of hot cowboys and strong women. In this one we got to meet Pearl and Wil who are instantly attracted to one another. One thing in this book I really enjoyed was the talk between these two. It isn't something you usually experience a whole lot of in books. This couple would talk on the phone and really brought me back to my years of dating my husband and the way you explored one anoth...more
I never thought I would read, let alone enjoy, a contemporary western. Then again, I never "met" anyone as full of life as Carolyn Brown. I've hosted her twice on my blog without having read her books ... and shame on me. Her joy just jumped off the screen ... a joy I remembered when the opportunity to review RED'S HOT COWBOY came my way.
Like a bucking bronco, Ms. Brown did not disappoint! The red cowgirl boots (plus the red headed city slikcer) on the cover was a clear indication that the story...more

Ahhhhh...Gosh these two kids are cute!!!! I will have the review up on www.nocturnereads.com sometime soon, but I just have to say that I am just sweet on this Spikes and Spurs series! My sister in law read the the first (after I thrust it into her hand and demanded she read it before her beloved HR books) and she to loves the series.
I thought this one didn't come out until September...but bam! There is was in the Chapter's yesterday...despite having 6 other books to read I had to get it...I LOV...more

'Red's Hot Cowboy' is a fun, hot, contemporary romance. Pearl has given up her banking job and partying lifestyle in the city to run the 1950s motel her aunt has left her. On Christmas Eve, hoping for a quiet night, a storm and local power cut gives her a full house and leads the police to her door.

Carolyn Brown and I have done a back-and-forth dance through her books that can rival the Cotton-Eyed Joe. I usually enjoy her characters. Her humor is down-home. The storyline concepts she envisions are fun. But after reading five or six of Ms. Brown’s books, they’re starting to sound the same. Red’s Hot Cowboy hits each of these points straight on, no deviation at all.

This one can be read as a stand alone even if it is in a series. We met Pearl and Wil briefly in book 1 and in this book they meet each other for the first time.
This book is just sweet as butter on fried chicken, oh wait, that wasn't a good one, I am not good at creating these sayings. Brown just this way with words in the book but I am not as good as her. No stars. This is the worst book I ever read. It's even worse than Atonement. I kept waiting for a story. But there was no story, no plot. There was only random events in the life of a motel owner. I sure don't want to read the first of this series or any others that will come along. I'm not even sure why or how it was ever published. Oh, and it's total fantasy. No one behaves the way the main couple does in real life. It's the same as guys writing in to Dear Penthouse. Boring and unbelievable.
While the romance in this one was ok, I liked the developing friendship with Lucy and Pearl more, along with their actions with women who are on the run. I would love to read a whole book about that!
It was funny how both Wil and Pearl were so gun shy and used the events that happened to them to meet their families, rather than actually own up to wanting it.

I didn't fall in love with this story as much as I did Love Drunk Cowboy, but it was good. Red if feisty and doesn't take any crap. Wil runs his own ranch and has a case of mistaken identity and is blamed for a murder he did not commit. Red comes to the rescue. From there their romance takes off. A good read for those who like cowboy novels.
Now that I got familiar enough with Carolyn Brown's writing, I enjoyed reading this one better than the first book. Maybe it's also because there weren't much self-talk/inner-self-talk in this second book.
I love Pearl character, but I love Wil's even better. I loved their relationship but after couple of pages. At least after Pearl came to Wil's house. I couldn't stop grinning when Wil got to visit Pearl's family. I loved the part when Pearl talked with her mom, her granny and aunt Katie. Especi...more

A great followup to
. This book is about Pearl, aka Red (but only by Wil), a fiesty redhead finding her hot cowboy. What's not to love. They were a great couple who went together very well. A great side character was Lucy, an abused woman who escaped her husband. Pearl hired her to help at the motel she inherited from her great Aunt.
I will definitely continue with the series (currently have all of them requested at library) and hopefully Lucy gets her own book, or at least he story developed m...more
