It was a pleasant surprise to get into Jace's head and discover what he was thinking instead of Clary for once. This takes place at the seelie court when the Seelie Queen asked jace...
“What if I told you she could be freed by a kiss?”

The Queen gave him a look: special and secretive and shared between the two of them. You warned her about us, the look seemed to say. That we would hurt her, break her as you might break a twig between your fingers. But you, who thought you could More...

"I don't know how to be without you."

Why is something forbidden always taste the sweetest?

It's always a welcome change for me whenever I read something from the POV of Jace; maybe it's the rawness of his view on things that makes his interpretations all the more real. That in itself should indicate how much I liked this deleted scene.

I wouldn't label this as that of just bitterness, even if the emotion gushes out of Jace and wafts from Clary. I think it's More...

Because it is Bitter is Jace’s POV from the chapter The Seelie Court in City of Ashes (pages 170-174). I LOVE that Clare did this. This is probably one of my favourite free short reads that she wrote for us. It was definitely one of the more pivotal moments of the entire series so far, so to read it from Jace’s POV makes it all the more intriguing. This is definitely something you should check out if you are a Jace fan.

I think Cassandra Clare should write what's left of the series entirely from Jace's perspective. I would definitely love that. This scene makes more sense reading it from his POV.

Jace obviously knows best about the supernatural world in Manhattan. I enjoyed reading about why the Faerie Queen went to such lengths just to watch two teenagers make out. From what I read in City of Ashes, I thought it was a contrived attempt to write a kissing scene to enthrall readers. At that point in t More...

I really enjoyed this. It was interesting to read this scene, a scene I loved, a scene I may well have read a hundred times over, from someone else's POV. Again, beautiful description, Clare's usual. But was this version better than the original?
My answer is.. No.
No for two reasons. The first being the repetition in Jace's version. Now, I usually adore Clare's writing style but... Ugh, Jace is bitter, and angry, and full of angst. We get it. We aren't stupid. Stop telling us he is. C More...

"That when he thought, really thought, about the fact that he might never get to kiss Clary again, he wanted to die or hurt or bleed so badly he’d go up to the attic and train alone for hours until he was so exhausted he had no choice but to pass out, exhausted."

Oh for fuck's sake.

"He’d have bruises in the morning, bruises and cuts and scraped skin and if he could have named all his injuries they would have had the same name: Clary, Clary, Clary."

The Seelie Court is my favourite scene from City Of Ashes and i loved reading it from Jace's POV and it really just made me love Jace more. To see what he was thinking, how he was feeling and you realise how much he really loves Clary. It was amazing.

Dear reader,

When you first saw that 'Because it is Bitter' was made, did you freak out or when you first started reading it did you freaking it or when Clary and Jace started kissing did you freaking out or when you read the entire thing did you freaked out?
Or were you like me, who freaked out when I heard Cassie was posting it and until she posted it and until I started reading it until they kissed until it was done and I was freaking out by the greatness of it. And after a co More...

This is a short little scene that's for free on Cassandra's website. It's a rewrite from Jace's perspective of the scene where they are in The Seelie Court and the Queen makes them kiss. I love it when an author does this for us so we can see what our favorite male leads were thinking in those critical moments. So it was good to read what Jace was thinking during this, despite his outward cockiness and sarcasm. It makes me want to reread the books! Which is good since I'll be reading City of Fallen Angels More...

I absolutely loved reading about that scene from Jace's perspective. Knowing the ending of the book, I couldn't imagine being so in love with someone the way Jace is with Clary, but couldn't have them because you though that person was your sister or brother. I love reading things in Jace's perspective. It is like we almost get new version of the story.

I am sort of glad I didn't get this perspective when I first read this book, because I really liked the version in the City of Ashes More...

LOVED IT! I loved knowing what was going on in Jace's mind! It was hard to imagine what was going on with him and this told a lot about him and his feelings for Clary. When I read City of Ashes for the first time, I was still a little ifish about the whole story. I was upset that they were brother and sister, but when they kissed, I was actually disgusted. Now, having read the series and falling in love with them, I really enjoyed going back to this kiss with a different perspective. I can't wai More...

Because It Is Bitter
The scene that takes place during pages 170-174 of City of Ashes, in the chapter The Seelie Court, here from Jace’s point of view. I even gave it a name — “Because It Is Bitter.” Because boy, is Jace bitter here.

And because it is my heart.” — Stephen Crane

I loved seeing this scene through Jace's eyes. It really gave you a whole different perspective on things. I was even more relieved to find out that now that the first three books of the series are complete, we are going to get a lot more of everyone's perspective as the story progresses. It makes things much more interesting.

If your a fan of this series, though, I would definitely recommend reading this. You can find it on Cassandra Clare's website or her blog her on goodreads.

Really?! From Jace's POV?! As much as I love him and Mortal Instruments, I just don't see why we have to reread that Silly... err... Seelie Court scene. It's like watching a replay episode of NCIS. We all know who the culprit is! Or in this case, we all know what are we going to get. Plus, it takes away the a bit mysterious boy image of Jace. I shouldn't have read it at all. I like to guess what is on Jace's mind, I prefer it that way.

Regardless, I still love Jace!

Wow... Reading this brings back memories of Clary and Jace in the Faerie - their kiss was bitter sweet and yet forbidden. The irony of it was that they both knew they wanted it badly, but it was just purely wrong on so many different levels. It was also gives an entirely different perspective when told from Jace's point of view - his anger, need, and tortured love all bottled up and released in this one encounter with Clary under the Faerie Queen's request.

This isn't a book, it's a new take on a scene from City Of Ashes, done from Jace's point of view. A wonderful thing for all TMI fans! A must read for not only us TMI fans but for those of you that just love Jace to pieces. Seeing this from his point of view was great. He knows so much about the world of the Shadowhunters and it has a lot of information! If you love TMI and even if you think Jace is cocky, you should read this as a fan of the books.

I've read this before but loved reading it again. It's just a taste of what makes Jace and Clary so great together.

This is the best lines:

“I knew it,” he said nastily. “You want to kiss me, don’t you?”
“Of course not. But if—”
“I guess it’s true what they say. There are no straight men in the trenches.”
“That’s atheists, jackass.” Simon was bright red. “There are no atheists in the trenches.”

It was finally so great to hear Jace's side of the Seelie Court scene. Underneath all that armor, Jace is very compassionate and his view shows us that! He's not afraid to express his feelings and they are running wild during this scene. He doesn't ignore what he feels and, because of that, we can see how much he really cares about Clary. If you don't already love Jace, I don't see how you can't not at least even like him after this.

This killed me. The seen with the Seelie Queen's kiss was amazing to me the first time around, and reading it from Jace's point of view was even better. Jace is the wild card, the mystery man, and I absolutely love getting into his head to the raw emotion that lies beneath. I am a big fan of authors using the point-of-view switch to show scenes from different character's heads. I think it's part of writing fanfic and RPing. Generally, you see what both characters are thinking at all times.

okay, that was weird... I dont think Cassandra Clare should try writing from a guy's point of view ever again, I loved the mortal instruments series when I first read it but I think I'm going to have to re-read it to see what I think of it now, one thing is for certain is that I think her Clockwork Angel series is by far better so far, but who knows who's going to end up being related to who... lol

Wonderful! LOL! I guess having read this book quite a long time ago helped me appreciate this scene a lot better. I think this is how it should have been told in the book. It was certainly filled with emotion, I think much more than it was actually told in the book.

Man, did I love Jace's bitterness! Ha! Jace is absolutely my favorite character in the series! So full of emotion!!!

It was sweet but kind of ruined Jace for me for some reason. I liked that we got to know why the fairy queen wanted them to kiss and finally read something from Jace's prespective. On the other hand, it's kind of dullwhen I know already what's gonna happen; takes away the spontaneity of the moment. Otherwise it was a good read. This is just my opinion and other hard core fans might feel differently.

Even with so much time between having read the actual book and reading this, I was right there reliving the moment, the pain and of course the anger of what at the time was just beyond wrong, the idea that the couple might be siblings probably had ever reader of this series torn up. To read it from Jace's point of view was just awesome. Loved it.

who could have though that 4 pages could make you fall in love
with someone? JACE FREAKIN' WAYLARD!
He does have feelings and the powerful way of describing them was
brilliant and you really got a good feel of everything from his pov,
and i wish all the mortal instruments get done again in his pov but
that would make it less fun to guess!

Oh God.

Jace felt blood flood into his face. He was vaguely aware of Simon arguing that Jace and Clary were brother and sister, that it wasn’t right, but he ignored him. The Seelie Queen was looking at him, and her eyes were like the sea before a deadly storm, and he wanted to say thank you. Thank you.

Heartbreaking.
